Who We Are and What We Do 1 Who we are and what we do The Reach 1 Peabody is one of the oldest and largest housing associations in London where we have been building homes and communities for over 153 years. Today, we own and manage more than 28,000 homes across the capital, housing around 80,000 residents. We want to make London a city of opportunity for all by ensuring as many people as possible have: A good home A real sense of purpose A strong feeling of belonging Founded in 2002, Pitman Tozer has established a reputation for working closely with clients to design and deliver elegant, imaginative and practical houses on complicated, heavily constrained sites. Previous work with Peabody includes the award winning Mint Street development in Bethnal Green. Peabody Avenue A Peabody development in Pimlico, consisting of 5 storeys and providing 55 new flats. Designed by Haworth Tompkins architects, the development was completed in 2012 and has won several awards for design. Peabody Avenue by Haworth Tompkins Mint Street Commissioned by Peabody and designed by Pitman Tozer, this award-winning development provides 67 new, peaceful flats on a noisy site next to a railway in East London. The block includes a mixture of tenures and was completed in 2014. We were already over 100 years old when the first residents moved into Thamesmead in 1968. Nearly 50 years later, Thamesmead is one of Peabody’s top priorities. We are passionate about the people, the place and its potential and want to make Thamesmead an area that people THAMESMEAD choose to live, work and visit. Housing Zones Peabody has worked in partnership with Royal Borough of Greenwich and the London Borough of Bexley to successfully secure over £70m government investment through two Housing Zones in Thamesmead. The Reach is part of the Abbey Wood, Thamesmead and Plumstead Housing Zone, which covers the area north of The Reach Site Plumstead Station up to the riverside by Gallions Park. Working with Royal Borough of Greenwich we aim to build over 1,500 new homes in the area over the next 15 years, as well as new shops, community facilities and improved public spaces. In the longer term we are investigating the potential for bringing forward housing on the area of land known as Broadwater Dock, which lies adjacent to Gallions Park, as well as making long- term improvements to Broadwater Green and Plumstead Gallions Park. station We will be consulting with the community on our wider plans for Plumstead and West Thamesmead in Spring 2016. The Project resulted from conversations amongst Charlton groups as to how people’s love of the Charlton Parks could best be recorded and how more people could be encouraged to help ensure their good health and use. The project, running from April 2011 to December 2012, has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund - Your Heritage programme, and by a contribution from The Viscount Gough. These parks have been given by or purchased from the Maryon-Wilson Estate, and are maintained for the people of the Royal Borough of Greenwich by the Parks and Open Spaces Department of the Borough. Over recent years local people have formed ‘Friends of the Parks’ groups who encourage their use and volunteer to take part in their care and development.
