Learn how to apply for a senior identification card to receive half fare pricing on all public buses in Massachusetts includ- ing the MBTA Charlie card. Learn about a new website tool called “Ride Match”. Following the presentation there will be time for questions, taking a closer look at the GATRA bus schedules and addressing your individual needs. Upcoming Programs: Computers for Beginner's: Starting Monday, April 30th at 10:00am and continuing until Monday, May 21st, join us for a computer learning class on THE BASICS. Learn how to use the basics from monitors, key pads to a mouse and webcam. Move on to documents, Facebook, and using Google to get directions and send an email. Finish with an introduc- tion to Microsoft Excel and adding and deleting a network and a printer. Class to be given by our very own volunteer and IT specialist Deshal Shah. April 5th, Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge talk to us about their recent book, The Ice Bucket Challenge with the up- lifting story of Pete Frates, Boston College baseball star who was crippled by ALS. Frates turned tragedy into inspiration and helped raise millions for ALS research. Sherman is an award-winning journalist, winner of the Edward R. Murrow Award and Wedge is an investigative reporter for “Vice” and the Boston Herald. April 12th, Nancy Koehn, author of Forged in Crisis: The Power of Courageous Leadership in Turbulent Times will talk about how leaders are not born, but made, and the power to lead resides in all of us. Koehn will spotlight masters of crisis such as: polar explorer, Ernest Shackleton, President Lincoln, abolitionist Frederick Douglass, and Nazi-resisting clergyman Dietrich Bonhoeffer. April 26th, John Palfrey, author of Biblio Tech: Why Libraries Matter More than Ever in the Age of Google, points out that libraries are not obsolete and that modern libraries are more important than ever. Palfrey points out that community gathering places such as the library have many resources and provide access to education, jobs, and information. Frank Sinatra’s Full Moon came from Rachmani- noff and the Lone Ranger theme was the William Tell Overture. The event is free and part of our Lifelong Learn- ing efforts. Still curious? Reservations and payment due by May 31. Director's Corner Well March certainly came in like a lion!! It was a stressful and challenging month for us all and I am happy to report that we all made it through! We became a warming center during those trying days when many did not have power. The Town pulled together as a community and we were able to provide a place for people to gather, have some hot food and enjoy pleasant company. That being said….this center is a pleasant place to be! Every day the staff, Friend’s Group and Advisory Board are working to come up with new and exiting programs and services to offer. Don’t forget, your opinion counts too! Please join us for our monthly COA Board meetings at the Town House the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 11:30am in room 200. We welcome the support and interaction. If you need a ride, our vans can provide curb side service to and from, just give us a call. Local community agencies and non-profit providers will be there to answer questions and show you what resources are available to you. Paula Musical Movement Yoga Class A movement experience incorporating stretching, yoga, and creative dance-like movement to your favorite Rock bands of the 60's and 70's.
