2013 Annual Report to Donors Our Thanks to You Ou Have Not Lived Today Yuntil You Have Done Something for Someone Who Can Never Repay You 2013 Annual Report to Donors Our Thanks to You ou have not lived today Yuntil you have done something for someone who can never repay you. John Bunyan (1628-1688) Author of The Pilgrim’s Progress Cover: Three-year-old Saniyah Arnold is being treated for a kidney disorder at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. With her is Summit, a Great Dane who is one of 23 certified therapy dogs that work with our young patients. Newton One Advi- sors, LLC supports pet therapy with an annual gift. The dogs, who wear their own name badges and “uniforms” are popular with patients, visitors and Nemours Associates. April 2014 Dear Friends, In the world of fundraising, we use the term “philanthropy” to describe the act of giving. The term comes from the Latin words meaning “love of mankind.” Although many people think of a philanthropist as someone possessing great wealth, I like to think of philanthropy more as a state of mind. The philanthropists we come into contact with each day at the Nemours Fund for Children’s Health have common characteristics. They look around them and see needs that must be met. They see themselves as part of a community that is striving to meet important goals. By giving, they become agents of change. A philanthropist may be a fourth grader inspired to raise money for Nemours because her friend has leukemia, or a college graduate just beginning his first job who makes an online contribution to get in the habit of giving each year. There are philanthropists who make a substantial gift through their wills to benefit future generations or endow a chair in a medical field that interests them. Other philanthropists help Nemours grow by investing in our capital campaign. Whatever form your personal philanthropy takes, I know that it emanates from a desire to make things better—especially for the vulnerable children in our care. Your generosity is very much appreciated. Although the children and families who benefit from your contributions may never know your name, they’ll know that someone cared. Sincerely, Lori J. Counts, CFRE Managing Director Nemours Fund for Children’s Health The Nemours Fund for Children’s Health is grateful to the following individuals for their generosity and vision in contributing significant gifts to Nemours. Our recognition of The Nemours Society members listed below, some of whom have made multi-year commitments, is based on cash and pledge payments received annually.
