Blessed Pierina was one of eight children in a poor family who took a private vow of chasti- ty. She stayed at home to help her mother with the small children. She visited the Blessed Sacrament during her lunch break daily, and she prayed the on her way to work. She was the youngest member of at her parish and taught Catechism. One day on her way home from work at the parish, a man tried to rape her. She died in defense of purity. ~Blessed Pierina Morosini, , , of , 1931-1957. As Catholics, we must boldly speak the truth and contradict the untruths and misleading rhetoric which surrounds the issue. The next few weeks will explore some myths about abortion. Myth 7 "Leave it up to the woman to decide" totally destroys equality before the law, because it constitutes a complete removal of protection from the child, who is considered a "nonperson". It also ignores the coercion women frequently confront from boyfriends and abusive husbands. Myth 8 Abortion has one victim. In reality, abortion has two victimsthe baby and the mother. Many women who have abortions suffer both physically and mentally. Depression, anxiety, infection, sterility and even death are not uncommon. The incidence of breast cancer also increases significantly in women who have had an abortion.
