Social skills and competences Trained in both engineering and political studies, Kim Haugbølle has acquired extensive experience in inter-disciplinary work with respect for both personal and professional diversity. Throughout his career, he has worked in inter-disciplinary work environments of engineers, architects, economists and sociologists spanning both the technical sciences and the social sciences. Privately, he has been coaching a soccer team of some 25-30 boys (born 2002) in the period 2006-15.

Organisational skills and competences Kim Haugbølle has been involved in the coordination and management of numerous national and international R&D projects, planning of educational activities, running a political secretariat of a think tank, and heading a research department. Furthermore, Kim Haugbølle has been or is a member or vice-chairman of several boards and committees. Currently, he is the international coordinator of the CIB Working Commission W118 on Clients and Users in Construction. Privately, Kim Haugbølle has been the coordinator of a building project of dwellings for 29 families during 1999-2002 in the private tenants-owner association A/B Østerled. In 2013-14, he was a board member of the tenants-owner association and the treasurer of a DKK4 million annual budget.

Technical skills and competences Kim Haugbølle has published extensively on the subject on lifecycle costing (LCC) and the client as change agent to different audiences: the international research community, the Danish research and development community, practitioners and policy makers. The first field of interest is associated with lifecycle costing and has focus on understanding the dynamics and uncertainties underlying the use or non-use of lifecycle costing in construction and real estate business. In particular, the interest has been to develop methods to relate the cost of construction with the value experienced by the organisation (client/owner/user) occupying the facility in question. Consequently, Kim Haugbølle have authored and co-authored a range of publications aimed at various audiences within topics like lifecycle costing methodologies, benchmarking systems, comprehensive quality assessment methodologies and classification schemes. The second field of interest is associated with the theme of the client/owner/user as change agent in the construction and real estate cluster. Thus, the research has taken place in the cross- disciplinary fields of innovation management with an explicit focus on the users as drivers of innovation, procurement systems with emphasis on new collaborative arrangements and sociology of technology with a special emphasis on the issue of agency. Consequently, Kim Haugbølle have authored a number of articles etc. on topics like performance-based procurement in Denmark, challenges for asset managers in social housing, sustainable management and procurement, organisational change in clients' organisation and the user as driver of innovation within single-family housing.

Computer skills and competences Kim Haugbølle has been leading the development of a spreadsheet-based LCC calculation tool for DGNB certification and an XML-based generic LCC tool for building professionals called LCCbyg. Kim Haugbølle uses daily standard Microsoft Office software including MS Visio, internet browsers and a range of digital dictionaries. Skills can be characterized as very good. On a regular basis, Kim Haugbølle uses MS Project, Adobe Professional, Adobe Connect, Skype, RefWorks and Mendeley. Skills can be characterised as fair. Furthermore, Kim Haugbølle uses various internal administrative systems frequently. Skills can be characterised as fair. On a less regular basis, Kim Haugbølle uses price calculation systems like V&S Prisbøger, LCC calculation tools like LCProfit and statistical software like IBM SPSS Statistics. Skills are acquired and maintained through formal training, daily work, private activities and instruction of others.

Other skills and competences Kim Haugbølle is a highly experienced lecturer and speaker in both Danish and English. As external lecturer Kim Haugbølle has had the full responsibility of a course for 200 students per year during the 6 year period of 1996-2002. In the period 2010-13, he was deeply involved in the establishment, planning and execution of a new educational programme as "BSc in Process and Innovation" at the Copenhagen University College of Engineering (IHK), now DTU Diplom. In recent years, he has annually made 25+ public presentations for practitioners, policy makers and researchers as well as organised half a dozen workshops, seminars and similar per year.

The aim of the project is to examine the interplay between user-driven innovation and industrialisation strategies in the construction sector from user needs to mass customisation. By focusing on cases in the construction sector, where the development has taken place as system deliveries of bathrooms, kitchens, standardised single-family houses etc. it is possible to identify central preconditions and mechanisms that have worked in the transforming process. The result of the project will be new knowledge about the interplay between consumption and production within the construction sector. Special focus will centre on the mediating process between product criteria and user demands in the design process and the transformation of firms in the construction sector, when they combine new innovation strategies and new industrialisation strategies. The practical result will be strategic recommendations to the construction sector about what works and what does not work in the transformation of companies and their network relations. The result of the project may be seen as new knowledge for authorities, innovatively orientated companies (or investors in new companies) and clients, who may plan their activity with a greater possibility of success. Apr 2006 – Apr 2008 PART-BYG: Partnerships in Nordic construction Purpose: PART-BYG is a joint Nordic project focusing on partnering and other types of partnerships in the Nordic construction industry. The current emergence of various types of partnerships in Nordic construction is strongly inspired by Anglo-Saxon experiences, but takes on different shapes than e.g. in the UK, because the Nordic construction industries are more attuned to collaboration and less conflict-riden. The objectives of the project are: - To stimulate knowledge exchange between industry, authorities and researchers by establishing a Nordic network. - To identify different types of partnerships, analyse central characteristics of the partnerships and map the diffusion of these partnerships. - To assess potentials and preconditions for partnerships as a new way of organising construction. - To develop a common Nordic platform for partnerships. - To disseminate lessons learned through a series of Nordic workshops and an international conference. Project owner/project leader: Haugbølle, K. Project participants: Sandesten, S. (ByggherreForum, Sweden); Thorsnes, T. (Statsbygg, Norway), Hedvall, K. (Senate Properties, Finland); Marteinsson, B. Typehusbyggeriet – bygherrens rolle i innovation (Co-construction of clients, concepts and companies: Exploring the role of clients in innovation related to industrialised single-family housing) Purpose: Public development programmes have played a significant role in Danish endeavours to stimulate innovation in the building industry through industrialisation. In recent years, the policy and research efforts in both Denmark and abroad has emphasised the role of the client as a driver for change in construction. It is worth noting that the primary focus of public development programmes has been on social housing and multi-storey buildings whereas our knowledge on innovation within small, privately owned dwellings is rather limited despite the huge economic impact of this segment of construction. Single-family housing is one of the few segments of construction, where the client, the owner and the end-user is one and the same person both legally and physically. Thus, single- family housing offers a unique opportunity to explore the role of clients in shaping the concepts and innovative strategies of companies and vice versa. Project owner/leader: Haugbølle, K. Project participants: Forman, M. Budget: 1.495.000 DKK May 2005 – Oct 2007 External financing by BoligfondenKuben: 500.000 DKK

Revaluing Construction 2007: Crossing Boundaries – international conference Purpose: The international conference Revaluing Construction 2007 - Crossing Boundaries explored how construction firms will meet the challenges of the 21st century through overcoming the barriers that currently limit performance. International speakers from industry, governments and research showed how innovation in management, marketing and technology will enable construction to create greater value for client and users and to be valued by its contribution to the quality of life. The conference themes included: - Crossing geographical boundaries. - Crossing organisational boundaries. - Crossing product boundaries. Project owner/leader: Haugbølle, K. Study administration My experience with course planning and execution is related to four different types of teaching: - Disciplinary courses for students within a defined subject area. These typically last for a full semester and have a weight of 5 ECTS points. - Semester projects for students. These will typically last a full semester and have a weight of 10 or 15 ECTS points. - Courses, seminars etc. for skilled practitioners within a narrowly defined theme, which will typically last 1-2 days and up to 5 days. The organisers include e.g. Byggecentrum and Green Building Council Denmark. - Soccer training focusing on 2-3 training themes during a half-season. 2010-14 Development of the brand new education "BSc in Process and Innovation" at the Engineering College of Copenhagen (IHK) with focus on three courses: “Building Process” (5 ECTS points), third semester project (10 ECTS points) and fourth semester project (15 ECTS points)

2007 Managing the course “Partnering in Construction” at Master in Construction Management, DTU Management, Technical University of Denmark 1996-02 External lecturer in health and safety with responsibility for a 5 ECTS points course for some 200 students per year at the Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences and some 20-25 external supervisors 1991-92 As a student representative at the Technical University of Denmark, I was involved in redesigning the engineering education for civil engineers. In particular, the student community introduced the concept of “fagpakker” in opposition to the traditional disciplinary focus of study hitherto. This included among others the merger and redesign of basic courses from four separate institutes into one integrated course covering the entire building process from planning over design to construction management.

Any other information or comments In my spare time the past 10 years, I have been coaching a soccer team of some 25 boys since the age of 5 years. Although this may seem a bit farfetched compared to university teaching, it is remarkable to see how some pedagogical principles are applicable in various settings to diverse groups – children, students or experienced practitioners. This has included soccer training with a maximum of 2-3 training themes during a half-season. The themes are selected for their appropriateness to the physical, technical, mental, tactical and relational abilities and learning objectives of the children.
