I have been doing the Sunday Rides for over 8 years now and typically have a group of 8 to 12 eager pilots ready to learn and have fun. At the beginning of the month we combined powers with the VTMC (Virginia Tech Motorcycle Club) and converged our group of European motorcycles with the Japanese machines of the VTMC group on the top floor of the multi story parking garage on campus and headed out for a sight not seen in the SouthWest Virginia area before. Our group met and departed the Frontline Facility at the normal time and headed towards Blacksburg the back route which became a little hairy when we encountered parts of the road missing and bicyclist lying on the ground bleeding out from the poor road conditions. So we toned it down and ensured safe delivery of the riders to the parking garage. Once atop the five or six story garage we gave our lecture and safety brief on riding in a group and decided on the route we would take. Down 460 we go to get gas at the Sheetz in Christiansburg before parading down Rte 8 towards Tuggles Gap, the first stop, and then on to Lover’s Leap and continuing on to Squirrels Nest for some more exhilerating riding. Some decided it was a good time to refuel our gut with some Lover’s Leap home cookin’!!! After we consumed our fair share of fuel and pie we decided to head back the Blue Ridge Parkway where we split for some riders to continue back to Blacksburg via Rte 8 while I escorted the rest of the group back to Roanoke. The small group that followed me had the pleasure of seeing a coyote on the side of the road, which was a nice end to the trip. Since then we have had two other Sunday Rides with with great turn outs. I was away on a race weekend for one which ended up with sixteen participants and the next Sunday Ride was much smaller but a really great experience for the participants. The Frontline Race Team took out Don (GSXR1300 who attends frequently), Jordan (Daytona 675), Mark (three months of riding experience), and Hank (Just purchased a ’13 S1000RR from me) and did lots of talking and training on our way down Daniel’s Run and into the back part of Floyd via Christiansburg Pike and then to Tuggle’s Gap as Mark and Hank had never been there and Jordan demanded Tuggles Gap for food. I witnessed extreme improvement in Mark’s riding abilities with some coaching from Jason and myself and Hank, well, Hank never smiled so much in all our time together, his face probably still hurts. Sloan had the privledge of taking out his 2013 Triumph Datyona 675R getting some break in miles for the race we had at VIR, CycleFest, which would be the last for the season. Kirk and Jason switched out the ZX10R and KTM 990 SM for a different riding experience and all had laughs and thrills but no spills as I am trying to keep that our MO for the Nate’s Guided Tours/Sunday Rides. This last Sunday was our Race weekend at VIR which I will go into greater detail in the Track Day/Racer Section below. But I have to say that some committed to coming down and having a Sunday Ride to VIR which led to a wonderful opportunity of actually riding on the North Course during lunch hour to raise funds for an air fence fund that CCS started. Hank was one lucky rider who got to show off his new RR on the track with his friend Bill, with Martin Louthian bringing up the rear fighting the temptation to wheelie passed them with the Rally R1200GS!!!! “See you at the Track” Cruise through my Facebook for Sunday Ride pics/movies and Race Day pics/movies: https://www.facebook.com/nathan.jennings.391 Who: Any Rider What: Sunday Ride with Frontline Eurosports Team Where: Frontline Eurosports 1003 Electric Road, Salem VA 24153 When: Assembling at 10:40AM and departing promptly at 11:00AM Why: Fun, Great Food Destinations, Socialization, weekend get-a-way, TO RIDE THAT BIKE!!! Nate's Bike Review: TRIUMPH DAYTONA 675R This is a mind blowing experience that I am about to share with you…..if you haven’t ridden a triple before then you are for a treat when you get the chance to straddle one of the most linear machines ever built in the middleweight class. The triple I am about to review is the 2013 Triumph Daytona 675R, the R model coming with superior suspension, Ohlins, out of the box, more carbon fiber components, Brembo MonoBlock Brakes, a quick shifter and better tires, Pirelli SuperCorsa, that our pilot, Sloan, threw around VIR North in the 1:37’s on its debut ride, never being ridden except for the Sunday Ride the weekend before. This machine will amaze you with its powerful 3-cylinder engine but is most impressive to me in the handling dept. The first turn I threw this puppy into on the street was almost like the first ride I took on my Aprilia RS125 where I almost over steered due to the super quick reaction to your inputs. She wants to lean and will do so effortlessly, it gives you that sensation that I describe to every customer who comes in and inquires on a Triumph Street Triple R, PERMASMILE. A lot of the review was conducted for me by our Test Pilots Sloan West and Steve Bellamente at VIR on Sept 21-22nd, where we took out of the box 675R’s, threw on a full Arrow Race System, dropped in a map, put rearsets with GP shifting on Sloan’s bike and had at it. The first impression on the track was not so good, the power was there with Sloan just motoring by the competition with a stock motor down the straight, even with other riders getting a better drive out of 17 due to his set up not being spot on yet, but no competition when it came to full throttle action down the straight and through the kink. Once we started to diagnose down some of the issue like the gearing being set up for the street and not the track and the wheel base needing to be lengthened and the forks needing to be lowered in the triple for a little more trail stability, there was a huge improvement with the machines set up. After some wrench time the bikes hit the track for another round of action and felt more compliant with less of a “twitchy/steering too fast” sensation and more stability which made it easier to handle the excessive wheelie action coming out of turns with that beast of a 3-cyl. catapulting our racers out of each turn. The brakes were terrific for Sloan but Steve had some issues with the brakes which were diagnosed after the races were over, nothing the bike did, just an assembly issue during our quick race build where he changed the brake pads to a brand of his preference the night before. We only used the ABS Off option and never tried the Competition Mode during the races so keep posted for our review on the Comp ABS system featured on the 675R!! For a Street SuperSport motorcycle this is the absolute best middleweight motorcycle you can get, and bang for the buck you are getting a well built, hand-crafted machine that will impress you, as well as, all your friends. For a race bike, if you want to be on the podium like Sloan and Steve we can build you one with the information that we keep obtaining from our personal race experiences and have you start your own Angry Bird experience. 2013 Triumph Daytona 675R = $13,499 +$495 Dest. +TTTD Nate's Parts Dept.
