Blake Mycoskie, founder of Toms shoes (MCT)

Since its founding in 2006, Blake Mycoskie, founder and cleverly titled “Chief Shoe Giver” has led the company, with the purchases of its customers, to donate over two million shoes to children in need. According to the company site, Toms identifies the areas in which to donate by determining the “…communities that would benefit most from TOMS shoes due to economic, health, and educational needs, and where local businesses will not be negatively affected.” Some of the forty countries that have profited from Toms’ generosity include Cambodia, Ghana, Iraq, and Rwanda. Most children receive a practical black pair of canvas Toms which for many, prevents them from walking barefoot, which exposes them to extreme discomfort and disease. Mycoskie’s brilliant original plan of creating and sustaining a non- 4:30 - 6:30 ONLY profit organization that wasn’t reliant on donations has been thriving magnificently and continues to grow. Expanding on the already successful business, Toms now applies the “One for One” policy to its eyeglass sales, donating a pair of eyeglasses for every pair purchased. They continue to appeal to their customers by expanding both their shoe style and the countries to which they donate. With the customer’s assistance, Toms can continue to help children around the world by providing them with a greatly needed pair of free shoes. A company as innovative and philanthropic as Toms will hopefully continue to succeed in the future, and presently, Toms is showing no signs of slowing down. Coloring the shelves of many stores such as Macys and Newberry Comics, not only can you easily purchase this fantastic creation, but you will also brighten the lives of those in need. Therefore, armed with the knowledge of Toms generosity, you can justify your purchase, so go out and buy a pair of these remarkable shoes! page 16 October 5, 2012 Dan the Movie Man: Lawless is flawless By Daniel Cournoyer for this movie.
