TERMS AND CONDITIONS INTERNATIONAL COURSE ON HUMAN RIGHTS 2018 Human Rights Investigation Fact-Finding, documenting and monitoring INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR THE PROMOTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS -UNESCO CENTER CATEGORY II- A. COURSE DATES The course will take place from Monday 29 October to Friday 2 November 2018 B. COURSE LOCATION The course is to be held at Villa Ocampo a villa built in 1891 and was famous for having welcomed distinguished international guests, such as Igor Stravinsky, Rabindranath Tagore, Graham Greene, Albert Camus, Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriela Mistral and Federico García Lorca. In 1943 the house was donated to the UNESCO due to the close ties that the Argentinean writer and intellectual Victoria Ocampo established with this organization. LANGUAGE The course will have simultaneous translation in English and Spanish. D. COURSE FORMAT The 5-day intensive face-to-face course runs from Monday 23 to Friday 27 de October 2017. Training activities will take place between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM (local time). Some additional activities may be planned outside these hours. To implement this course, we invited a group of world-renown Argentinean experts, teachers and activists in the field of human rights. It is designed to promote learning and the exchange of knowledge and information and to create the conditions to foster closer ties between all participants and the lecturers. The course will integrate various dynamic learning approaches, such as simulation exercises, group discussions, traditional teaching and interviews, among others. Sessions will be primarily organized among real-life cases of human rights investigation, with the presence of relevant actors who took part in them. D. TARGET AUDIANCE The course is aimed at professionals with experience in the field of human rights, be they staff of non-governmental and international organizations, officials from national governments, researchers or academics. Up to 35 participants will be admitted. The selection committee will take into account adequate interdisciplinary representation, gender, geographical areas and institutional membership. Good written and oral communication skills in English and/or Spanish are required. E. FELLOWSHIPS Fellowships will be awarded to cover: the course fee, meals during the course, internal transports (hotel-Villa Ocampo Observatory) and accommodation in a twin room for four nights (Monday to Friday). Should a single room be required, the costs will be borne by the participant. Participants must cover their own travel expenses from their home-town to Buenos Aires, transports from and to the airport and any other additional costs. They should also have health insurance at their expense. The CIPDH will assist participants in planning their stay in Buenos Aires. F. COURSE REGISTRATION AND SELECCIÓN PROCESS 1. Second step: once you have duly completed the online application form please send the following information: a) Two reference letters (400 words) b) Cover letter (400 words) c) Curriculum Vitae brief (1200 words) d) Scan or send a PDF document of your Passport with at least 3 months’ validity before expiry. All documents must be in PDF and must contain name and surname of the participant in the file´s name. Period of Admission May 10 to July 10, 2018. Incomplete applications or submitted after the expiry of this period will not be considered. 3. The selection committee is composed of CIPDH Director Patricia Tappatá Valdez, the Academic Director of the course Roberto Saba and Andrés Morales, Programme Specialist, UNESCO Office in Montevideo. 4. Admissions results will be sent via email before 15 August. G. COURSE CERTIFICATE The course certificate will be issued by the International Center for the Promotion of Human Rights CIPDH - UNESCO, UNESCO Villa Ocampo Observatory and the UNESCO Office Montevideo.
