Welcome New Branch Chairman John Mackie opened the meeting and welcomed everyone at CBay in Timaru.

Ashely Harper, Group Manager District Services at Council, introduced himself and the . Ashley took the opportunity to acknowledge that Timaru had won two IPWEA NZ Excellence Awards this year:

 Excellence in Strategic Planning – Winner o Timaru District-wide Wastewater Strategy - Timaru District Council, CH2M Beca  Excellence in Maximising Asset Performance – Winner o Badhams Bridge Widening - Timaru District Council, Opus International Consultants, Whitestone Contracting

IPWEA NZ Board Update John presented the new Board and invited everyone to consider upcoming IPWEA events, forums and training opportunities with a view to incorporating these into staff or self-development initiatives. After outlining the meeting agenda the chairman acknowledged and thanked the sponsors for the accommodation and for catering.

Presentations 1. Waste Minimisation, 10 years on, by Ruth Clarke Ruth Clarke, Waste Minimisation Manager at Timaru District Council, outlined the work she and the Council have been undertaking for waste minimisation in Timaru and district. Ruth took us through the steps they’ve taken over the last 10 years to achieve today’s results. Recent customer research indicates a high level of satisfaction with waste minimisation services, specifically kerbside collections and transfer stations. The presentation was followed by Q&A and acknowledged with acclamation.

2. Waitaki river Bridges and Badhams Bridge Widening by Teresa Allen Teresa Allen’s, Senior Engineer, first presentation focused on the replacement of two single lane, 133 year old timber bridges over the Waitaki river. The existing structures were wooden Howe Truss Bridges and were opened in 1881. It included the asset management options, a description of works, innovations and photos of the works and the result.

The second presentation was about the widening of Badhams Bridge, crossing the Orari River. The existing bridge was constructed in 1960 and was designed to H20-S16-44 loading. The presentation also included the asset management options, a description of works, innovations and photos of the works and the result.

The presentations were followed by Q&A and acknowledged with acclamation.

3. Innovative Asset Management for Pipe Infrastructure by Lenard Smythe Lenard Smythe, Development & Renewals Engineer, gave a presentation about innovative Asset Management for pipe Infrastructure. The importance of good quality data was highlighted by Lenard.

The presentation was followed by Q&A and acknowledged with acclamation.

4. Roading Collaboration by Suzy Ratahi Suzy Ratahi, Road Network Operations Team Leader, presentation took us through the collaboration with different customers and suppliers. She explained the process of preparation of contract documents, tendering, results and learnings. Pocket RAMM (Road Assessment and Maintenance Management), a complete solution for RCAs, their consultants, and their contractors, was of great value for her throughout the whole process. The presentation was followed by Q&A and acknowledged with acclamation.

As Ross Waugh, from Waugh Infrastructure Management wasn’t able to attend the meeting and present Infrastructure Strategies/Activity Management Plan Update, Ashley Harper took his place and presented Asset Management Maturity Assessment.

5. Asset Management Maturity Assessment by Ashley Harper Ashley Harper, Group Manager District Services, showed us the 2015 IIMM Asset Management Maturity Index. He also explained the IIMM Indicators and results on Water supply, Sewer Services and Stormwater.

The Chairman expressed thanks and acknowledged the presenters, supported by the acclamation from the audience.

Presentations were followed by lunch, sponsored by CBay.

Site Visit The site visit was cancelled as there were not enough participants and can be organised separately with Ruth Clarke.
