  • PRRP 021 – Peter Gabriel Manchester 1980 – Liner Notes
Through The Wire With the release of his ground-breaking third solo album in May 1980, Peter Gabriel firmly began to establish his reputation as a highly innovative solo artist. In February of that year, before the release of the album, he embarked on a British tour, dubbed the „Tour Of China 1984‟, showcasing new material and a streamlined, more direct live sound. At The Apollo in Manchester, Gabriel and his band entered from the rear of the auditorium, arriving on stage to the menacing opening strains of “Intruder”. Alongside Tony Levin on bass and Larry Fast on keyboards was a surprising new recruit – guitarist John Ellis from punk outfit THE VIBRATORS. It was Ellis‟ raw, dry guitar, combined with Jerry Marotta‟s dominant, economical drumming, which gave Gabriel‟s new live sound much of its harder edge. This recording, from March 5th 1980, includes several rarely performed songs from Peter Gabriel‟s live repertoire at the time. “Milgram‟s 37”, given a lengthy explanatory introduction by Gabriel, wouldn‟t appear on an album until 1986‟s classic “So”, where it was renamed “We Do What We‟re Told”. The minimal “Lead A Normal Life” complements “Mother Of Violence” while “Bully For You” (co-written with Tom Robinson, who provided the lyrics for Gabriel‟s music) and the ebullient “I Go Swimming” both remain unreleased as studio recordings. “Games Without Frontiers” provided Gabriel with his second solo hit single (following the early success of “Solsbury Hill” in 1977) and it was during this song that he chose to leave the stage and venture into the audience to encourage a sing-along of the “Jeux Sans Frontières” chorus refrain.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Peter Gabriel In His Own Words by Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes" lyrics. In your eyes The light the heat In your eyes I am complete In your eyes I see the doorway to a thousand churches In your eyes The resolution of all the fruitless searches In your eyes I see the light and the heat In your eyes Oh, I want to be that complete I want to touch the light The heat I see in your eyes. Love, I don't like to see so much pain So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away I get so tired of working so hard for our survival I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive. And all my instincts, they return And the grand facade, so soon will burn Without a noise, without my pride I reach out from the inside. In your eyes The light the heat In your eyes I am complete In your eyes I see the doorway to a thousand churches In your eyes The resolution of all the fruitless searches In your eyes I see the light and the heat In your eyes Oh, I want to be that complete I want to touch the light, The heat I see in your eyes In your eyes in your eyes In your eyes in your eyes In your eyes in your eyes. How Peter Gabriel ditched the masks and made the album that changed his life. “It was important to him that he step out and be recognised as an individual talent,” legendary producer Bob Ezrin says of working on Peter Gabriel’s debut solo album.

  • Gabriel at Hyde Park 23 June 2007
Warming Up a Rain Soaked Crowd – Peter Gabriel at Hyde Park 23 June 2007 Peter Gabriel brought the opening day of the 2 day Hyde Park Calling concert to a close with a 90 minute performance made up of largely forgotten gems plucked from the dusty recesses of a solo career which is now 30 years old. Of course those fans that faithfully devour every scrap of Gabriel data from the internet will know the story already but to recap for those people on the outside – Gabriel is currently in the early stages of a Warm Up tour arranged at fairly short notice as a result of agreeing to do the 25th anniversary at WOMAD next month in Wiltshire. To that end he has reassembled the same band (save for the absent keyboard player Rachel Z) that toured the major territories between 2002 to 2004 – what could reasonably described as the Growing Up band, but playing anything other than Growing Up songs. Gabriel enlisted the help of his devoted fans to suggest songs they’d like to hear live that were not aired last time and the result for tonight’s show is the return of songs that have lain dormant for anything up to 27 years! The keyboard slot has been filled – and I would add to great effect - by Angie Pollock, who also can add a touch of class to the backing vocals department when called upon. Angie has very quickly established herself among the otherwise familiar ranks of Gabriel’s supporting players, namely Tony Levin, David Rhodes, Ged Lynch, Richard Evans and Melanie Gabriel and the new renditions of these old songs are all healthily revitalised.

  • Family Snapshots: a Woman’S Prerogative by Jennifer Eurell
Family Snapshots: a Woman’s Prerogative by Jennifer Eurell Is snapshot photography a gendered activity? If one counted all the photographs that were ever taken they might come to the conclusion that most were taken by men. However, snapshot photography has always been one area where women have been involved. Just what is a snapshot? A snapshot is primarily a private photograph – the sort of photograph that ends up in the family album. Various writers will define it by referring to blurriness, tilting horizons, cut off heads, figures too far in distance, poor photographic techniques and strange framing, but with smarter cameras (and more informed snapshot photographers) this may be unfair. It is perhaps fairer to say that family snapshots are of the „Say Cheese‟ variety – happy families, relatives and friends at home and on holiday. An early 1960s birthday party snapshot – tops of heads missing, somewhat blurred, and plenty of smiles. Snapshotting is photography‟s only naïve genre. A snapshot photographer differs from an amateur photographer in that they take a photograph without hesitation and with little consideration for the technical or aesthetic. The snapshot photographer „takes‟ a photo, while the amateur tries to „make‟ one. There is a gender bias towards female snapshot photographers and male amateurs (Evans 2000:112). This is partly because most snapshots photographs are taken at home. Family photographs are predominantly of babies and children. They record children‟s growth, birthday parties and play, along with celebrations and family holidays of both adults and children. The Golden Age of the snapshot was between 1910 and 1950, when affordable camera‟s became available, and roll film separated the „taking of the photograph‟ from „processing and printing‟.

He called home, complaining about “bad mojo”—riders who were driving crazy and wiping out, recalls his sister, Melissa Cortes. So although Cox—whom Cortes describes as a motorcycle nut—was not known for leaving a rally before the end, he did on that fateful day. His fam- ily and friends will forever see this as a tragic irony. His schedule change meant that the fun-loving, redheaded Cox was near milepost 92 on Chinook Pass Highway, not far from Yakima, at 4:30 p.m. on August 5, at the moment that Scott Edwin Bradford pulled an illegal U-turn in his blue Subaru Justy.
