  • You Go Ahead, Cause Its Making Me Laugh... by Fausto Sala - Vice President FISSC
Year Number Jan - Mar 2 1 2012 You go ahead, cause its making me laugh... by Fausto Sala - Vice President FISSC “Olimpico” stadium in Rome, Sunday 5 February 2012. Around the 20 minute of the first half of Roma-Inter in South stand appeared a banner which read: “All at 15: the nature of things, by nature force”. As everybody knows the match was scheduled to be played on Saturday at 20.45, then anticipated at 15 and at last moved at the same time on Sunday, in contemporary with all other matches in serie A as the tradition was back in the past. Thus the roman fans wanted to underline this fact and their consent for the traditional shcedule of matches, remarking as only the snow emergency had forced the hands of those in command to revert to old habits of italian football fans. We can repeat until boredom that playing at night in the coldest days of the year is madness. Yet since January 18 up to February 5, between league and national cup, 21 matches at night have been programmed and out of these 19 in the north between Bergamo, Milan, Torino or Novara. But you think that who decides does not know such facts? But more the Lega is criticised, and more who guides the Lega continues to be bend to the will of the television networks who now have absolute power to decide the time in which games are playes, having tv rights now constitute the main income for the clubs. Thus the only concern of the Lega in these last seasons, whose president Maurizio Beretta has resigned since March of last year since he now passed to a top managerial post within UniCredit, was to see how to divide between the clubs the income coming from these rights with the consequent effect of half-empty stadiums to the benefit of sitting in cosy armchairs and sofas at home.

BELARUS - ITALY MATCH PRESS KIT Olympia, Helsingborg Tuesday 23 June 2009 - 20.45CET (20.45 local time) Group A - Matchday 3 Contents 1 - Match background 6 - Head coach 2 - Team facts 7 - Competition facts 3 - Squad list 8 - Competition information 4 - Group statistics 9 - Tournament schedule 5 - Match officials 10 - Legend Match background Belarus will look to turn back the clock five years in their decisive final Group A fixture with leaders Italy in Helsingborg. • Yuri Kurnenin's men enter the match bottom of the section yet knowing a victory could still earn them a semi-final place. The odds may favour the Azzurrini, but Belarus can take heart from having achieved the feat once before, when recording a surprise 2-1 win over Italy at the 2004 finals in Germany. • Italy are strongly placed to reach the semi-finals, with four points to their name following a draw with Serbia and victory over Sweden. A win against Belarus would tie up first place for Pierluigi Casiraghi's side and they would even qualify with a low-scoring defeat – by two goals or less – if the group's other game between Serbia and Sweden ended in a draw. • After losing to Sweden and drawing with Serbia, Belarus have no such luxury – it is win or bust for the eastern European side. • If they beat Italy, Belarus would be guaranteed a semi-final place on the head-to-head rule so long as there was a winner in the Serbia-Sweden game. In the event of a Sweden-Serbia draw, they must beat Italy by three clear goals, given that this would leave them level with the Italians and Swedes on four points with head-to-head results, then goal difference the first two deciding factors.

  • Football Agents in the Biggest Five European Football Markets an Empirical Research Report
FOOTBALL AGENTS IN THE BIGGEST FIVE EUROPEAN FOOTBALL MARKETS AN EMPIRICAL RESEARCH REPORT FEBRUARY 2012 Raffaele Poli, CIES Football Observatory, University of Neuchâtel Giambattista Rossi, João Havelange Scholarship, Birkbeck University (London) With the collaboration of Roger Besson, CIES Football Observatory, University of Neuchâtel Football agent portrayed by the Ivorian woodcarver Bienwélé Coulibaly Executive summary While intermediaries acting in the transfers of footballers have existed since almost the birth of the professional game, the profession of agent was not officially recognised until 1991 when FIFA established the first official licensing system. In November 2011, there were 6,082 licensed agents worldwide: 41% of them were domiciled within countries hosting the big five European leagues: England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France. This research project firstly investigates shares in the representation market of players in the five major European championships. By presenting the results of a survey questionnaire, it analyses the socio-demographic profile of licensed football agents in the above mentioned countries, the business structure of their activity, the different kinds of services provided, and the way in which they are performed from a relational point of view (network approach). The analysis of shares highlights that the big five league players’ representation market is highly concentrated: half of the footballers are managed by 83 football agents or agencies. Our study reveals the existence of closed relational networks that clearly favors the concentration of players under the control of few agents. Footballers are not equally distributed between intermediaries. Conversely, dominant actors exist alongside dominated agents. One fifth of the agents having answered to our questionnaire manage the career of half of the players represented on the whole.

  • Statistical Assessment of Soccer Players
Statistical Assessment of Soccer Players by Mohammad-Amin Nabavi A thesis submitted to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics Carleton University Ottawa, Ontario © 2019 Mohammad-Amin Nabavi ABSTRACT This thesis examines the use of neural network modelling and ordinal logistic regression on a single season of data (2015-16) to score or rank soccer players. These scores and ranks are then compared with ones from FIFA EASports that are based on a much more extensive data set that includes more variables as well as historical data. Using repeated measures one-way ANOVA and subsequent multiple comparison testing, we conclude that a neural network model with ten nodes in one hidden layer is able to generate scores statistically similar to FIFA EASports, while ordinal logistic regression cannot. We confirm this result be also examining the ranks obtained by both the neural network model and the ordinal logistic regression model. Spearman rank correlations are also examined and confirm that a neural network with 10 nodes in one hidden layer also generates ranks statistically similar to FIFA EASports. We also demonstrate the use of association rule mining on one team’s data from the 2015-16 season to identify players and combinations thereof that are associated with winning (or not winning) a match. Analyses are based on data from the Italian Serie A League 2015-2016 season. ii Acknowledgements These past couple of years have proven to be the hardest period of my life so far.
