INTRODUCTION The total population of Tamil Nadu as per 2011 census is 7,21,38,958 in which 2/3 rd of population belongs to Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities and nearly 95% of Muslim minorities are in the list of Backward classes and among Christian Minorities nearly 80% are in the list of Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes. The Government of Tamil Nadu is implementing several schemes for them so as to uplift them socially, economically and educationally on par with other developed categories. The details of schemes implemented for their welfare, criteria to avail the benefits, the officials to be Contacted are given below for information of the public. 2. RESERVATION Reservation plays a major role in bringing up these communities economically and educationally to secure appointments in services under the State Government and to secure admission in educational institutions. The ratio of reservation is as follows:- 1 Backward Classes (excluding 8 26.5% the Backward Class Muslims) 2 Backward Class Muslims 8 3.5 % 3 Most Backward Classes / Denotified Communities 8 20 % 4 Scheduled Castes 8 18% 5 Scheduled Tribes 8 1% TOTAL 69% The respective Head Quarters Deputy Tahsildars are the competent authority to issue Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities (BC/MBC/DNC) community certificates. The list of Backward Classes, Backward Class Muslims, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities are furnished in the Appendix I. 3. KALLAR RECLAMATION SCHOOLS For the educational upliftment of the Denotified communities, particularly the Piramalai Kallar Community, 292 Government Kallar Reclamation Schools are functioning under the control of this Department in Madurai, Theni and Dindigul Districts. The details of Kallar Reclamation Schools and strength of students as of 2016-17, are as follows: Sl. At present the English medium classes are entered upto 4th standard 865 children are studying in the academic year 2016-17. 2 The Details of the Schools with KG Classes Sl. Student (Boys/Girls) should study from 4 th Standard to 12 th standard. 2. Parental annual income should not exceed Rs.1,00,000/- 3. Students’ residence should be at a distance of more than 8 Kms.from the educational institutions. (This condition is not applicable to Girl Students.) College Hostel 1 Student should study in Diploma., U.G/ P.G. course. 2. Parental annual income should not exceed Rs.1,00,000/- 3. Student’s residence should be at a distance of more than 8 Kms from the educational Institutions.
