    Colorado Election 2020 Results This year, Colorado turned even more blue. President Donald Trump lost to Joe Biden by double-digit margins. Senator Cory Gardner lost to former Governor John Hickenlooper, making all statewide elected officials Democrats for the first time in 84 years. In the only competitive congressional race (3rd), newcomer Lauren Boebert (R) beat former state representative Diane Mitsch Bush (D). In the State House: • Representative Bri Buentello (HD 47) lost her seat to Republican Stephanie Luck • Representative Richard Champion (HD 38) lost his seat to Democrat David Ortiz • Republicans were trying to cut the Democrat majority by 3 seats to narrow the committee make up but ¾ targeted Democrats Reps. Cutter, Sullivan, and Titone held their seats • Democrats will control the House with the same 41-24 margin House Democratic Leadership • Speaker – Rep. Alec Garnett (Denver) unopposed (Rep.     The 72nd legislative session is well underway, and you can advocate for policies that promote mental health across the lifespan for all Coloradans! Find out who your legislators are, attend a Town Hall (listed below), share your story, and voice your support for our 2020 Legislative Agenda. Specifically, you can tell your legislator you support: • House Bill 20-1006: Improves a statewide program of early childhood mental health consultation to support mental health care across the state in early childhood settings and practices. • Senate Bill 20-007: Improves insurance coverage and increases access to care for substance use disorders. • House Bill 20-1085: Reduces the potential harm caused by substance use disorders. • House Bill 20-1139: Improves how peer support services are billed and creates a peer tax credit, increasing access to care and promoting workforce development. • Senate Bill 20-001: Expands behavioral health training for kindergarten through twelfth grade educators.     Volume XXXI 31 Season Summer 2020 President’s Report Sisters and Brothers, During this time of uncertainty, I know that I am looking for something stable to hold onto. I have found it in my family. I have found it in my faith. I have found it in the NALC. Every day I look toward you my Sisters and Brothers to provide the stability we share on the workroom floor. We are all going through this crap, together. While our perspective is different, we all know that 2020 has forever changed our lives. And for that may we always remember where we were and where we are. But I also find stability in our National officers. The have led the charge on so many fronts that I have no doubt in their selection to the office that they hold. On the website just under the COVID tab there are 8 statements from President Rolando, EVP is doing Podcasts, there are 18 new MOUs, 30 mandatory stand ups, and a multitude of health and safety articles. A new PMG has brought chaos across the country, and an appropriate response from our leaders. Contractual issues are being addressed through grievances; tests have been ended. Legislation is crafted with our input and passed the House with bipartisan support. And public support of the USPS and Letter Carriers has never been more openly expressed. America loves us.   • 2020 Election Recap
    2020 Election Recap CO goes blue federally Coloradans overwhelmingly supported the Democratic candidate for President, Joe Biden, and for Senate, John Hickenlooper. Incumbents keep most state seats In our catchment area of Douglas County, Arapahoe County, & the City of Aurora, we have 4 new legislators: Chris Kolker, David Ortiz, Naquetta Ricks, & Iman Jodeh. See page 3 for a full list of our local legislators. Democrats retain state control Democrats will continue to hold majorities in both the House and Senate at the state level. The executive branch is also held by Democratic Governor Jared Polis. A mixed bag on ballot measures Voters approved an income tax decrease, creation of a paid family leave program, and additional oversight of new enterprises. This indicates that Coloradans remain committed to populist values and direct democracy. Check out the Secretary of State's website for a full list of election results. 3 new County Commissioners In Arapahoe County, Commissioner Kathleen Conti lost to Carrie Warren-Gully. Douglas County welcomes George Teal who replaces term-limited Commissioner Roger Partridge. Adams County adds Lynn Baca to the seat vacated by Commissioner Mary Hodge. See all of our local County Commissioners on page 3. What this means for the I/DD world Local funds secured for essential services Coloradans voted to repeal the Gallagher Amendment (Amendment B). This is a big win for our community and other locally funded services like firefighters and schools. Repealing Gallagher prevents the loss of local mill levy funds that support programs, families, and providers in our communities. These funds are critical in meeting outstanding needs for people with developmental disabilities/delays and their families.
