or the first time in eleven years (and probably longer) the annual Village Hall hire Fincome has covered all the Hall costs for the year – how good is that! This is something the Hall Management Committee have always been striving for so it is a huge milestone for them and means that the profit made from fundraising and the bar can be put towards refurbishment.

At the Hall AGM the existing committee were all re-elected. Andy Penny continues as Chairman with Roy Speakman as his Vice. Treasurer is Dee Littlechild and Bookings are in the hands of Vanessa Isaacs. The rest of the committee is Janet Chadband, Alan Davies, Martyn Dingle, Bill Isaacs, Annie Philp and Mark Routledge. We are looking for someone to take on the position of Hall Secretary so if you feel like getting involved we would love your help.

The Management Committee are very grateful to the late Mrs Taylor of Lundy Road who bequeathed a legacy of £4670 to the Hall. This means that funds are in better shape than they have been for many years and for the first time ever we now have a contingency fund for that rainy day that will inevitably come.

This doesnʼt mean we intend to rest on our laurels and several fundraising events are happening over the summer. We are helping with the Music Festival and profits from that are to be donated to the Hall.

On June 16th we are holding a fashion show – see ad below. Then we will be holding Village Hall Coffee Mornings on July 13th, July 27th and August 10th.

On August 22nd, the Fourthwall Contemporary Theatre Group are bringing Graham Greeneʼs ʻTravels with my Auntʼ to the Hall and more details on this will be in Trio nearer the time.

We had just started to make it home, falling in love with our new life here. Here turn right over a stile [beware: barbed wire] and continue NorthWestwards across fields and stiles until you reach the road at Homer Park (the former Huntsman’s Inn). Turn left and follow the road for about 300yards/metres, past a junction with a track on the right. A stile in the hedge on the right leads to f.p.26; follow the right-hand (NW) edge of the field to a stile at Trefreock Farm, then round to the left, over a stile on the right to a path going SouthWestwards. Cross the St Endellion to Long Cross road (two stiles) and continue across fields (stile) to a gate on to the road as you arrive at Trelights. Follow the roads through the village, initially Southwards but bearing right a couple of times, until you pass the Methodist Chapel on your right, walking Northwards. Just beyond there, cross a stile on the left, across a garden to another stile, then over two more stiles on the same straight course (f.p.27). After the fifth stile, turn sharp left, then right around the edge of a large field to a gate in the far left corner. Cross the last field to reach the Long Cross to Port Quin road at Trewint.

Turn right along the road for 150yards/metres, then over a stile in the hedge (left, NorthEastwards) on to f.p.31. Keep close to the hedge on your left initially, then strike out across the field in the same direction, to meet the metalled Roscarrock Farm track at a stile. Cross the track, over another stile, and continue, eventually with a hedge on your right, down the hill to Lower Trefreock. Go across a muddy patch, a stile and a footbridge to reach the metalled track, round to the right and up to the road. Turn left and follow this past Homer Park, down Church Hill back to your starting point.

Andy tells the story of his run: “The marathon was a great experience, so much so that I might be tempted to do it again! The day was fantastically well organised, from registering at the Excel Centre, where I met the RNLI team, to the race itself.

My highlights were crossing the iconic Tower Bridge, with the whole RNLI supporters team cheering me on, and of course crossing the finishing line. Although I ran the second half of the marathon on my own, the support was quite something. All the time people were cheering me on and often supporters and Trelights fellow runners would make a comment about how they loved the RNLI and what a great charity it is. Methodist Church I was set a target of £2900 to raise for the RNLI and at the last count I had just hit it. However, people are still donating to my website account now, so I am confident that is hosting another I will raise over £3000!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Port Isaac RNLI Crew and committee for all their support. Without the committeeʼs fundraising efforts, Gill and family's raffles in Taunton and my own family allowing me the time to constantly run up and Sankey down the Camel Trail and the Coast Path, I really would not have managed. 11 Cooking with Martin F irst up a cheap and easy BBQ recipe and lets hope it doesn't put the curse on the weather that we have been enjoying and the Spanish classic of holidays past Paella. So get that Paella pan out that you all have lurking in the back of the kitchen some where give it a clean and give it a try! Barbecued Thai Also you can get chicken stock pots from Co-op now which is a well reduced jelly like stock ideal for this dish. Enjoy with friends bread and a Chicken Legs good bottle of wine or two. A delicious chicken dish, marinated Mx with Thai flavours and crisped up Paella on the barbecue. The great thing with paella is there is no end to what you can add but here Ingredients is a basic recipe. • 4 chicken legs, preferably Free Range • a bunch of fresh coriander Ingredients • 2 sticks of lemon grass •6 boneless chicken breasts or thighs, preferably • zest and juice of 2 limes free-range or organic, skin on, each quartered • 1 green chilli, deseeded • sea salt and freshly ground black pepper • 2 tablespoons sunflower oil • plain flour, for dusting • a thumb-sized piece of ginger, grated • olive oil • 3 cloves of garlic, peeled • 100g chorizo, sliced • 6 slices pancetta or streaky bacon Slash the chicken legs all over with • 1 onion, finely chopped a knife. • 4 cloves of garlic, finely chopped • 2 litres hot chicken stock, preferably organic Pick the coriander leaves and put • 2 large pinches of saffron them to one side. Very recently I visited H2O On The Go, a business based in Wadebridge that bottles H Cornish spring water and supplies it to places all over Cornwall as well as Devon. The company was set up last February and they were keen to show their green credentials as they offer an environmentally friendly and cost effective solution for local companies and organisations as well keeping much needed jobs in Cornwall.

Camelford Leisure Centre held an Open Day recently to showcase their facilities and sensible voices from the Labour Party classes. I dropped in early on to wish them all the best and hope that more and more are backing the Yes campaign and will people in the area and further afield see what a great place the Centre is.
