3 Letters Church Diary dates Wednesday May 4th T ucked away somewhere among our most precious 7.30pm - Healing Service, possessions are almost certainly some letters we Church treasure. Perhaps theyʼre letters from our parents or some dear friend; perhaps theyʼre love letters or Thursday May 5th 7.30pm - Celebration of King James Bible letters from our children. Some may be bearers Readings & Music, Parish Church of good news- while others may be letters of concern and sympathy in a time of difficulty or sadness. Friday May 6th Some may contain wise words of advice and counsel, while others may have been 7pm - Local Pastoral Ministers, written to thank, congratulate, cheer, support and encourage us. St Endellion Church

Often weʼve forgotten all about them and then, perhaps when weʼre spring-cleaning Sunday May 8th or having a tidy-up, we come across them, and as we begin to re-read them the 9.45am - Sung Eucharist, St Peterʼs Church, Port Isaac events and the feelings we experienced then are made present, and we recall the 11am - Sung Eucharist, St Endellion writers with gratitude and affection.. When I think of the letters I have which I treasure, I feel it would be such a loss if people were to stop using this form of communication – a loss not Tuesday May 17th – Friday May 20th only to ourselves and our families and friends, but to future generations and to Parishes Retreat Treworra Barton, history. Davidstow Judith Pollinger Sunday May 23rd 9.45am - Sung Eucharist, St Peterʼs Church, Port Isaac New Churches to the Cluster 11am - Sung Eucharist, St Endellion Church T he Cluster of Churches welcomes a new future with , and Michaelstow. Following the retirement of their last part-time Vicar, the Wednesday May 25th Archdeacon of Cornwall has been in conversation with St Mabyn, St Tudy and 7.30pm -Mothers Union, St Endellion Michaelstow about their future. No options were on offer. They were not going to get Church Hall, Patchwork from Mongolia a new vicar of their own. All the clergy and Readers in the North Cornwall Cluster Thursday May 26th wished to respond positively to the St Mabyn group, while finding ways of ensuring 8.00pm - Julian Meeting ,St Endellion that our existing projects and callings are not just diluted out of existence. We therefore suggested that the Archdeacon convene a meeting of all our own clergy, Sunday May 30th Readers and Churchwardens with those of St Maby, St Tudy and Michaelstow. Many 9.45am - Sung Eucharist, St Peterʼs views, reservations and hopes were expressed. It was clear that many friendly Church, Port Isaac 11am - Sung Eucharist, St Endellion relationships already bridge the parish boundaries and we were well received by our Church hosts. This will give Thursday June 2nd Ascension Day the St Mabyn group their own contact, while giving Jonathan some autonomy and 8am Holy Communion St Minver extra responsibility half way through his curacy. 7.00pm Sung Eucharist St Endellion Church

But just as Jonathan is keen not to lose his regular contact with St Minver (et al), we Sunday June 5th will all still be working as a team. I am convinced that three things are necessary if 9.45am - Sung Eucharist, St Peterʼs we are not to be part of inadvertent decline and failure: a) we must work together in a Church, Port Isaac collegiate way; b) we need to establish a leadership group in each church which is 11am - Sung Eucharist, St Endellion not dependent upon how many clergy we have; c) we need to discover and honour Church each personʼs sense of vocation. or the first time in eleven years (and probably longer) the annual Village Hall hire Fincome has covered all the Hall costs for the year – how good is that! This is something the Hall Management Committee have always been striving for so it is a huge milestone for them and means that the profit made from fundraising and the bar can be put towards refurbishment.

At the Hall AGM the existing committee were all re-elected. Andy Penny continues as Chairman with Roy Speakman as his Vice. Treasurer is Dee Littlechild and Bookings are in the hands of Vanessa Isaacs. The rest of the committee is Janet Chadband, Alan Davies, Martyn Dingle, Bill Isaacs, Annie Philp and Mark Routledge. We are looking for someone to take on the position of Hall Secretary so if you feel like getting involved we would love your help.

The Management Committee are very grateful to the late Mrs Taylor of Road who bequeathed a legacy of £4670 to the Hall. This means that funds are in better shape than they have been for many years and for the first time ever we now have a contingency fund for that rainy day that will inevitably come.

This doesnʼt mean we intend to rest on our laurels and several fundraising events are happening over the summer. We are helping with the Music Festival and profits from that are to be donated to the Hall.

On June 16th we are holding a fashion show – see ad below. Then we will be holding Village Hall Coffee Mornings on July 13th, July 27th and August 10th.

On August 22nd, the Fourthwall Contemporary Theatre Group are bringing Graham Greeneʼs ʻTravels with my Auntʼ to the Hall and more details on this will be in Trio nearer the time.

From Port Isaac to Pristina A year ago we were staring out of our window across The Terrace and beyond, across the big blue beautiful sea, when the phone call came through. Would Robert accept a job paid by the British government to be an adviser to the government in Kosovo?

The sea churned against the rocks and the discussions churned between us. We had only just moved to Port Isaac a year before. We had just started to make it home, falling in love with our new life here. If the dry spell continues, we can recommend this walk, just a couple of hours or so, to the South of the village Start from the Platt outside the RNLI boathouse, facing the Harbour, and walk left (South) up Church Hill. A little way up, take the signposted footpath on the left (f.p.35) along the valley bottom. You pass on your left Jon Cleave’s lake and the Water Treatment Plant and, through a gate, reach the (former) Mill, now a farm with holiday accommodation. Just beyond the buildings, go left through a gate and drop down to follow the line of the old mill-race. Not far beyond the junction with the path up to Trewetha (on your left) take the path slanting back uphill to the right (f.p.40). Go through a gate to meet the metalled track down to the Mill, but continue uphill round a left-hand bend [views over Port Isaac], over a cattle-grid, to another left-hand bend. Here turn right over a stile [beware: barbed wire] and continue NorthWestwards across fields and stiles until you reach the road at Homer Park (the former Huntsman’s Inn). Turn left and follow the road for about 300yards/metres, past a junction with a track on the right. A stile in the hedge on the right leads to f.p.26; follow the right-hand (NW) edge of the field to a stile at Trefreock Farm, then round to the left, over a stile on the right to a path going SouthWestwards. Cross the St Endellion to Long Cross road (two stiles) and continue across fields (stile) to a gate on to the road as you arrive at Trelights. Follow the roads through the village, initially Southwards but bearing right a couple of times, until you pass the Methodist Chapel on your right, walking Northwards. Just beyond there, cross a stile on the left, across a garden to another stile, then over two more stiles on the same straight course (f.p.27). After the fifth stile, turn sharp left, then right around the edge of a large field to a gate in the far left corner. Cross the last field to reach the Long Cross to road at Trewint.

Turn right along the road for 150yards/metres, then over a stile in the hedge (left, NorthEastwards) on to f.p.31. Keep close to the hedge on your left initially, then strike out across the field in the same direction, to meet the metalled Roscarrock Farm track at a stile. Cross the track, over another stile, and continue, eventually with a hedge on your right, down the hill to Lower Trefreock. Go across a muddy patch, a stile and a footbridge to reach the metalled track, round to the right and up to the road. Turn left and follow this past Homer Park, down Church Hill back to your starting point.

My highlights were crossing the iconic Tower Bridge, with the whole RNLI supporters team cheering me on, and of course crossing the finishing line. Although I ran the second half of the marathon on my own, the support was quite something. All the time people were cheering me on and often supporters and Trelights fellow runners would make a comment about how they loved the RNLI and what a great charity it is.
