We provide advocacy and advice, as well as sector-development and community-engagement programs and events for a wide range of stakeholders, including independent dance artists and teachers, companies and ensembles, the education sector (including primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions and educational providers), dance studios, and the community. As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), AV provides accredited VCE and VET training, and sits on state and national industry-training advisory boards tasked with oversight of professional dance development, courses, and accreditation. We also represent the dance sector as part of the Arts Industry Council of Victoria. As a membership organisation, AV offers support to individual and organisational members. We maintain a key partnership with our sister organisation, Ausdance NSW, which provides opportunities and pathways for artists between Victoria and NSW. AV is part of the Ausdance National network. Ausdance National is Australia’s peak body for dance. Ausdance National has a 40-year history of educating, inspiring and supporting the dance community to reach its potential as a dynamic force within local, national and international communities. The Ausdance Network is a federated association of separately funded state/territory organisations with their own priorities and programs including Ausdance National, QLD, WA, NSW, VIC, SA and ACT. As part of the Ausdance Network we work with our State counterparts to advocate for and support the dance industry. Our Work Advocacy: AV offers high-level strategic advice and vision for the dance sector. We advocate on behalf of the dance industry to raise the profile of dance and increase investment in the arts. Our advocacy aims to: 1. Improve capacity building and industry sustainability 2. Increase access, engagement and participation 3. Advocate for art form and sector development Education: AV provides innovative dance education programs for people of all ages, experience and dance career pathways. We do this through the provision of inspiring dance education experiences: workshops, masterclasses, dance teaching programs, professional learning days, high quality resources, forums, talks and advice to teachers and dancers of all ages. We also provide feedback on changes in training packages and alterations to study designs. RTO: As an RTO, AV currently offers Certificate II in Dance with selected units from Certificate III in Dance. We are registered nationally, with most partnerships with schools in Victoria. We currently have partnership agreements with over 30-40 schools each year, with 600 students enrolled into the program across Vic, QLD and WA. Special Projects: AV’s projects and events aim to raise the profile of dance in Victoria, activate youth dance, provide professional development and networking opportunities for practitioners. Current projects include: 1. Big Dance: Big Dance is the largest free participatory celebration of dance in Australia that engages thousands of people in unifying choreographic pieces, performed across local, regional, and metropolitan communities. Big Dance 2018 engaged over 4,200 individuals who joined the nationwide dance performances across five states, ran 120+ free dance workshops across Australia in three months and reached an audience of almost 1,000 during the event live stream on International Dance Day. Australian Youth Dance Festival: (AYDF) A biennial festival aimed at providing young people from across Australia a forum for exchange and a platform to begin their professional development. In 2019, over 150 dancers, 30 facilitators and 60 dance practitioners and arts leaders came together for 5 days of intense submersion in Youth Dance Practice at the 10th Australian Youth Dance Festival – International., held in Melbourne. This international edition of AYDF witnessed participation from England, Scotland, Finland, Singapore, and India, as well as Australia. The next AYDF is scheduled for July 2021. 3. Industry Networking Gatherings Glance@Dance/ Sector Connect Sessions: AV presents regular industry networking events (run as online sector connect sessions during COVID-19) which provide an opportunity for the dance sector to come together, discuss issues and share ideas of relevance for the dance sector. 4. Creative Ageing through Dance: AV is proudly leading cultural change regarding perceptions of ageing and dance in our state. With experienced dance-and-ageing specialists, we have designed training that will support this rapidly growing field and the professional practice of future teaching artists and movement facilitators. Our training will offer online and face-to- face programs, with nationally accredited and non-accredited options, for experienced dancers, allied health and aged care professionals. Membership: AV offers Individual and Organisational memberships. During the COVID-19 pandemic, in recognition of the devastating impact the pandemic has had on the Victorian dance sector, we have made memberships free to end of 2020. Currently we have 1,128 members, of whom 400 have taken up the free membership offer. Our members become a part of a vibrant community of dance artists, practitioners, professionals, organisations, educational establishments and enthusiasts, working in and supporting dance. Members get access to potential partners, discounts, training and networking opportunities, special offers and cross promotion and marketing prospects across the sector. Page 3 of 8 THE ROLE Position: Associate Producer, Programs and Events Reports To: General Manager Direct Reports: Contractors as required Days/Week: Part-Time* (.6EFT) *Standard office hours are between 9am-6pm, Monday to Friday but, given the nature of the role, out of hours work, including attendance at evening and weekend events, is required from time to time. THE OFFER Salary Range: Pro-Rata of $58K - $65K, dependent on experience, + 9.5% superannuation contribution Employment Type: Fixed term contract to 31 December 2021, with opportunity to renew pending performance reviews and funding. 4-month probationary period. THE PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR Ausdance Victoria (AV) is looking for a highly organized, all-rounder to join its team as Associate Producer, Programs and Events (APPE). The APPE works closely with the General Manager (GM) to support the continued advancement of AV’s year-round program of sector-development workshops, initiatives, projects, and events. As APPE, you will coordinate all aspects of AV’s sector-development and community engagement projects including stakeholder liaison and consultation, research and design, and project/event management (planning, contracting project personnel, risk, compliance, finance, administration, and evaluation). You will take a holistic approach to continuously improve the delivery of AV’s programs and events, drawing on your creative, collaborative, and pragmatic capacities to deliver successful projects. A confident project manager, your flexibility and self-awareness will allow you to recognise when you may need to modify project plans to respond to previously unforeseen challenges or opportunities, and your collaborative style will ensure you bring all project stakeholders along with you. With a robust attention for detail, you are a person who remains calm under pressure and contributes to a positive and supportive work environment. You don’t need to be an expert in dance but experience of working in the arts sector will be looked upon favourably. You like getting stuff done and, although you love being part of a team, you also have the individual fortitude and focus to work autonomously. We don’t expect you to know everything but what you don’t know you will need to learn. This may require learning new software, including learning management systems, CRM systems, and other technical platforms (so you will need to be confident in your ability to pick-up ICT systems).
