This month Soul Lucille, broadcasting soul & funk from Florence, Italy on controradio-fm, is contributing her 300th program to Radio Free Amsterdam; Bob Putignano will reach 300 Sounds of Blue shows next month; and Roger White will make it 100 BluesTime International episodes next month as well. Friday, June 4 BLOWIN' THE BLUES AWAY ANCESTOR WORSHIP 30 Episode 30 comprises the second installment of our month-long investigation into the compositions and performances of pianist Horace Silver and his stellar Quintet, recording for Blue Note Records between 1959 and 1962 when they were one of the leading jazz attractions in America, featuring saxophonist Junior Cook, trumpeter Blue Mitchell, bassist Gene Taylor and drummer Louis Hayes, replaced by fellow Detroiter Roy Brooks when Hayes joined the Cannonball Adderley Quintet in 1959. John Harris Jr. replaces Brooks on the final selection, from 1962. El primero era un alemán que se había aficionado al jazz en su país y que, una vez establecido en Nueva York en el 37, no tardaría mucho en empezar a grabar a músicos de boogie woogie como Meade Lux Lewis y Albert Ammons. Su socio, Margulis, era un escritor de ideología comunista. Los primeros testimonios del sello van en la dirección del jazz tradicional, por entonces a las puertas de un inesperado revival en plena era del swing. Una sentida versión de Sidney Bechet del clásico Summertime fue el primer gran éxito de la nueva compañía. Community Councils have delegated authority to decide street naming matters which comply with the City of Toronto Street Naming Policy. RECOMMENDATIONS Engineering and Construction Services recommends that Toronto and East York Community Council: (1) Approve the name "Billy Bryans Lane" for the public lane south of Hepbourne Street extending easterly from Delaware Avenue. Financial Impact There are no financial implications resulting from the adoption of this report. ISSUE BACKGROUND A request was received to name the lane extending easterly from Delaware Avenue between Dewson Street and Hepbourne Street as "Billy Bryans Lane". The following background Information is provided: "Billy Bryans was born in Montreal but spent most of his adult life in Toronto. He moved to Toronto with his group "Theodore's Smokeshop" in 1970. He acted as the Engineer for the Downchild Blues Band album titled "Bootleg" (1971), thought to be the first artist-produced and independently distributed album in Canadian history. He produced Lane Naming – Billy Bryans Lane 1 "The Gathering", a compilation album of Canadian World music artists which won the inaugural June Award for World Music Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 1992.
