  • Awards Pile up for Kinhult's Sneaky Good Freshman Season by Julie Williams Amateurgolf.Com May 19, 2019
Awards Pile Up For Kinhult's Sneaky Good Freshman Season By Julie Williams Amateurgolf.com May 19, 2019 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Frida Kinhult is a lurker, literally and figuratively. Nothing brings her greater delight than sneaking up on a teammate, a coach or a family member and popping out from behind a corner for a good scare. She always remembers to keep her iPhone camera on so she can show you exactly how high you jumped. The symbolism is obvious here, as Kinhult, a Florida State freshman, sits eight shots off the lead after two rounds at the NCAA Women’s Championship. She followed up an opening 4-over 77 at Blessings Golf Club with an even-par 73. It’s good but not great, considering the difficulty of this Blessings layout. “A small mistake is a big mistake on this course,” Kinhult said after the second round. This week aside, Kinhult’s freshman season is a body of work that sometimes gets overlooked. In nine starts so far this season, Kinhult’s worst finish was a 13th at NCAA Regionals. She fired a final-round 68 to claw that high. Kinhult stacks up well against the giants. She is 5-0 against reigning national champion Jennifer Kupcho, a Wake Forest senior who won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur last month. Kinhult was playing the ANA Inspiration, an LPGA major, on a sponsor exemption that week. Kupcho and Kinhult were named co-ACC Players of the Year earlier this month. Kinhult was also the ACC’s top freshman. She’s only the fifth player to sweep those awards, and the other four have been from Duke.

A note of gratitude is in order for our three board members who completed their service in 2018: Mark Smith, Terry Dibble and Don Pope. As President, Mark provided eminently competent leadership to the board and club management. The Smith Administration engaged largely in “nuts and bolts” analysis and planning that lays the groundwork for improvements to the golf course and building facilities in the coming years. This included physical assessments in order to ascertain the remaining lifespan and identify required maintenance associated with our building systems including roofs, plumbing, electrical/HVAC, etc. for budgeting purposes. Another major achievement was the extension of the PVGC Concession Agreement to 2038 with successive 10-year extension options thereafter. (continued on page 2) (continued from page 1) Both Don Pope and Terry Dibble “stepped up” when asked to join the board to fill vacant Director positions. Don served as Vice President while Terry Dibble ably directed the Finance Committee as Treasurer this last year. His committee did important analysis including benchmarking PVGC’s financial operations to comparable clubs and developing a greater understanding the relative contribu- tion of private party/banquet revenues to the our overall financial picture.

2019 PING JUNIOR SOLHEIM CUP EUROPEAN HANDBOOK 10TH – 11TH SEPTEMBER 2019 GLENEAGLES, SCOTLAND WWW.SOLHEIMCUP2019.COM [email protected] PINGJUNIORSOLHEIMCUPTEAMEUROPE INTRODUCTION TO THE EVENT The 2019 Solheim Cup and PING Junior Solheim Cup will take place at Gleneagles in Perthshire, Scotland the week of 9th September. The aim of the competition is to give junior golfers from both sides of the Atlantic the opportunity to gain international match play experience as well as the chance to meet, learn and be inspired by the professional players playing in The Solheim Cup. It will be the third time both The Solheim Cup and the PING Junior Solheim Cup are incorporated within The Solheim Cup week at the same venue which significantly enhances the profile of the junior event. This follows the success of the last two matches at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot, Germany, in 2015 and Des Moines Golf & Country Club in Iowa, USA, in 2017 where the matches were combined to great effect. In 2019, the junior tournament will move in closer proximity to the senior version and will be played on the Tuesday 10th September and Wednesday 11th September. This date adjustment ensures the PING Junior Solheim Cup will get the exposure and profile it deserves as it is positioned as an important part of a week where the hosts, VisitScotland, aim to make this the most family-orientated Solheim Cup to date. The aim of The 2019 Solheim Cup is to not only highlight the stunning assets of Scotland, the Home of Golf, but also build on the legacy of the successful 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

  • The Four Who Sent Regrets O Augusta National, Choosing Instead to Play the ANA Inspiration by John Strege Golf Digest April 2, 2019
The Four Who Sent Regrets o Augusta National, Choosing Instead To Play The ANA Inspiration By John Strege Golf Digest April 2, 2019 RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — The most coveted piece of mail in golf, postmarked Augusta, Ga., is from the Board of Governors of the Augusta National Golf Club, extending an invitation to play in its tournament, with a superfluous R.S.V.P. Why superfluous? Well, who is going to turn down an invitation to play at Augusta? It is no longer a rhetorical question, not since the club sent out invitations for the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur that begins Wednesday. Four of the best women amateurs in the world—Patty Tavatanakit, Frida Kinhult, Albane Valenzuela and Rachel Heck—sent their regrets to Augusta National, choosing instead to accept invitations to play in the LPGA’s first major of the year, the ANA Inspiration that begins on Thursday. A fifth amateur, Xin (Cindy) Kou of China, won the ANA Junior Inspiration to earn a place in the field. It was an unfortunate decision for the four and others to have to make, the result of Augusta National scheduling its tournament opposite the ANA. Suddenly, the LPGA major has to cede the spotlight, at least through Saturday, to the inaugural Augusta amateur event. “They’re two great events,” Valenzuela said. “It’s unfortunate, but I think it will be a great week for women’s golf in general. You have to see it in the positive. It’s great that women’s golf has this issue now. There will be two great winners this week.
