ABSTRACT: Over exploitation of forest resources by the various external agencies, mining operations and development projects of government and non-government in the tribal areas are resulting to deforestation which are adversely affecting the life of the aboriginals. The consequences of forest ecosystem degradation to tribal health are numerous. Primarily, which create natural imbalance of forest bio-diversity resulting to food problem and loosening permanent energy base. Prolonged starvation for food leads to high incidence of malnutrition, morbidity and mortality among them. Due to deforestation, some of the valuable medicinal plants become extinction and tribals also loose their prime medicinal source. The forest policies of government are also adversely affecting the livelihoods of tribals. In this research paper an attempt is made to explain tribals’ interaction with forests and influence of ecological and cultural factors on their health. It also deals with their indigenous medicinal practices and effects of government forest policies on their lifestyles. Further it emphasizes the relevance of action anthropology in solving the health problems of tribals. The paper discusses the inter connectedness in between the forest ecology, health and medicine of tribes in anthropological holistic perspective with an empirical evidence of a case study in Visakha agency area of Andhra Pradesh. Konda Dora tribe is divided into a number of clans such as Korra, Killo, Swabi, Ontalu, Kimud, Pangi, Paralek, Mandelek, Bidaka, Somelunger, Surrek, Goolorigune olijukula etc., Konda Dora are very dominant in the district. Frequent field trips were conducted in Konda Dora rich areas to collect the Traditional Botanical Knowledge and Ethno- medicinal plants used by the Konda Dora. Because of modernization, all the ethno-botanical knowledge is declining day by day, so there is an urgent need to document the knowledge of ethnic people. Here 68 plant species belong to 63 genus of ethno- medicinal value were recorded from Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The aim of the present study is to enumerate the ethnomedicinal information from PTGs (Primitive tribal groups) of Koyyuru Mandal, Visakhapatnam District, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, India. Ethnomedicinal plant information has been collected through several field trips and also by means of personal interviews from local tribal people/doctors. Based on the conference from the local tribal doctors and through discussions with them, a total number of 74 ethnomedicinal plant species with 70 genera of 43 families used to treat a total number of 59 diseases were collected. A small number of plants were used as medicine directly and remaining plants are used in mix together with other plant species. The significant use of each ethnomedicinal plant was obtained in consideration of available information from the local tribal doctors. Most frequently the plant leaves were used for preparing ethnomedicine. It is evident that the collected ethnomedicinal plants have significant medicinal value for one or more diseases. Fewer plants were noticed intended for healing two or more therapeutic values. This Cave is fast becoming a hot tourist‟s destination offering great adventurous opportunity to the tourists in the Eastern Ghats. The cave is located in the Ananthagiri hills of the Eastern Ghats region near Visakhapattanam and is made of limestone. The emotion of thrill heightens after entering the cave. The entrance has a narrow vertical opening and is well lit. Due to its location in the sub-equatorial region, dripping of water from the cave roofs occurs almost throughout the year. The formation of stalactites and stalagmites create wonderful phenomena specially found in this cave. The conspicuous pillars formed due to the joining of the roof and the floors are an awe-inspiring creativity of the creator of this world. Various viruses and bacteria are in the cave interior along with different other creatures. The Borra cave helps the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, India, to earn huge economic benefits for the sake of tourism industry.
