Condolence Motion CONDOLENCE MOTION Moved by: Councillor Mark Grimes Seconded by: Councillor Josh Colle The Mayor and Members of Toronto City Council are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Terry Sanderson on Thursday November 27, 2014. Terry Sanderson was the General Manger for the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League and the patriarch of a successful Canadian lacrosse-playing family. As a player he won three Canadian Senior B Championships with Orangeville and one with Owen Sound. He won the Mann Cup with Brampton in 1980 and two years later he was named most valuable player of the Canadian Senior B championship tournament. In 1989, Terry Sanderson turned to coaching the game and helped create the Orangeville Jr. B Northmen, a team that would claim the Canadian National Championship for the next two years. In 1991, he helped create the Orangeville Jr. A Northmen and lead them to three Minto Cup championships in 1993, 1994 and 1996. With the Brampton Excelsiors, Terry won the Mann Cup as head coach in 2002 and again in 2008 and 2009 as GM and assistant coach. Terry Sanderson won three National Lacrosse League championships. He won his first NLL Champions Cup in 2005 as GM of the Toronto Rock with his son Josh Sanderson and nephew Phil Sanderson on the championship team. In 2009 he won as a coach with the Calgary Roughnecks and later returned to guide the Toronto Rock to another Champions Cup in 2011 as GM and assistant coach. One of the first inductees in the Orangeville Sports Hall of Fame, Terry was Mr. Lacrosse in Orangeville but his impact on the sport extends beyond the many teams, players and coaches he has mentored. His passing has left a giant whole in the world of lacrosse and his family, which in a lot of ways are one in the same. Terry had the pleasure of coaching his son, Josh, on three different NLL Teams as well as his grandson's team in Orangeville. The City Clerk is requested to convey, on behalf of the Members of Toronto City Council, our sincere sympathy to the Sanderson family. December 3, 2014 .
