Opening Celebration, Artist Conversation, Film Festival, and more

BALTIMORE, MD (September 6, 2018)—The Museum of Art (BMA) is hosting a series of events this fall celebrating the first major retrospective of John Waters’s visual art in his hometown of Baltimore. John Waters: Indecent Exposure brings together more than 160 photographs, sculptures, and sound and video works featuring the iconic artist and filmmaker’s renegade humor, provocative insights, and unbridled cultural critiques.

Indecent Exposure: John Waters Community Celebration Sunday, October 7, 1–5 p.m. $10 | Free for ages 18 and under

Enjoy discount admission (regularly $15 for adults) and an afternoon of activities inspired by the art of John Waters. Highlights include art-making, cocktail-tasting, and a digital photo booth.

Artist Conversation: John Waters & Kristen Hileman Thursday, November 1, 6 p.m., Doors open at 5:30 p.m. $15 | $10 BMA Members and students with valid ID

Learn about Waters’s provocative use of humor to subvert mainstream attitudes and expectations and his strategies for manipulating images—including his own self-portraits.

John Waters will personalize and sign copies of the exhibition catalogue during this special night, featuring free exhibition admission from 5:30-8 p.m. Pick up a numbered voucher at the East Lobby Box Office at 5:30 p.m., then return with your books no later than 7:30 p.m. Catalogues (including pre-signed copies) will be available for purchase at the BMA Shop.

John Waters Film Marathon Friday, November 9, 7 p.m.– Saturday, November 10, 2 p.m. Single Entry: $10 | BMA Members: $8 Multiple Entry: $20 | BMA Members: $10 Tickets on sale in October

Enjoy 18 hours of John Waters’s films showcasing his diverse artistic output in chronological order, featuring (1970), (1972), (1974), (1977), Polyester (1981), (1988), Cry-Baby (1990), (1994), Pecker (1998), Cecil B. DeMented (2000), and (2004). Truly film as an endurance sport, the event includes snacks and will culminate with prizes given to all those who complete the entire marathon.

Art After Hours Friday, November 16, 8–11 p.m. $25 | $20 Members This event is for adults age 21 and older

See the John Waters: Indecent Exposure exhibition and three riotous films by artists Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin, celebrate the new boundary-pushing multi-media works of artist collective DIS, and check out a new installation by Baltimore-based artist Lee Heinemann with Get Your Life Productions. Tickets include evening access to the exhibitions and galleries, entertainment, and a free ticket for food or drink. Cash bars with beer and wine, as well as light bites, are available for purchase.

THE BALTIMORE MUSEUM OF ART Founded in 1914, The Baltimore Museum of Art is a major cultural destination recognized for engaging diverse audiences through dynamic exhibitions and innovative educational and community outreach programs. General admission to the BMA is free so that everyone can enjoy the power of art.

The BMA is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The museum is closed Monday, Tuesday, New Year’s Day, July 4, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
