An Introduction to The Blair Family Magazine Project On the 30th Anniversary of the Blair Society for Genealogical Research, Inc The original Blair Society for Genealogical Research was organized in 1925, inspired by the work of Mrs. (Dr.) Eleanor M. Hiestand-Moore. The Society published thirteen issues of The Blair Magazine between 1925 and 1931. These issues were republished as a soft cover book and digitalized on a CD in 1999. The current Blair Society for Genealogical Research was reorganized in 1983 and has since published 4 issues per year of The Blair Family Magazine. This digital archive contains all issues of the BFM through 2013; each issue is presented intact, from the front cover (with original Table of Contents) to its various announcements on the back cover. This collection contains some 2600+ pages of genealogical data and individual histories of the many known Blair lines as researched and submitted by its members and even a few non- members. This collection is presented primarily as a research tool to preserve Blair family history and not as a literary work unto itself. In order to save space per page and allow for larger font sizes (for readability) many abbreviations (see guide on following page) have been used in the first 64 issues (through Winter 1998). Several long and incomplete lists of members, addresses and earliest known Blair ancestors have been deleted. Reference has been added about the deletions and to more complete lists in later issues, offered as Retypist Notes: In addition, many other annotations have been inserted, in the same fashion (in red), to offer known corrections or to point toward later articles on the same subject. Starting with the Spring 1999 issue, no further changes were made in the appearance of any page in any issue and no further annotations were added. This was primarily because these issues had been scanned and placed in Adobe format shortly after each issue was published and then placed on the BSGR website for members to download at their pleasure. The four most recent copies of the BFM are always maintained on our website. In 2003 Members’ Lineages (1983-2003) With Biographies of Their Earliest Ancestors, compiled by Charlotte Blair Stewart (BSGR Genealogist) was published in book form, by the Society. This book should be used in close collaboration with this anthology of BFMs. Identifying and dealing with inaccuracies is part of the research process for any serious genealogist, whether amateur or professional. The point is, accuracy can never be considered etched in stone, whether found on a tombstone or in print. Any material found here or elsewhere should be verified from primary sources. There are two primary reasons for presenting this thirty year anthology in digital form and not as a book in hardcopy. The most important reason is the length. Although printing sections is possible, please remember that this digital copy is copyrighted material and MAY NOT be copied in its entirety, given to others for their use, or pasted on the internet without permission. If you find errors to your family data or can expand on what is printed, please send corrections or additions to the BFM editor. In its thirty years, the Blair Family Magazine has had seven very capable editors, Kathleen B. Rheman (#010-L), Mona J. Mattingly (#247-L), Nancy Knox Schaffer (#493-L), Charlotte Blair Stewart(#022), Mary J. Powers (#240), Christina Weeks (# 1220) and Cathy Sato (#1083 – current editor). We thank the editors and all who have contributed to the Magazine and the Society over the years and to Morgan Blair Rajcevich (#679) for her work in preparing this archive, its handling and distribution. Please enjoy, learn, and research further! INTRODUCTION TO THIS INDEX This is an index to articles that have appeared in the Blair Family Magazine from 1893-2014. The organization by Section: 1. Projects By BSGR Or Its Members When a person's name is followed by a number, it means they are or were a member of the Society. We may have additional data submitted by them about their families that has not been printed in the magazine. Inquires should be directed to the Society Genealogist. Keep in Mind that much of the data printed is from submitted data. Thus, it is only as good as the sources used, cited, etc. Therefore, ALWAYS, confirm your own family genealogy from primary sources and use other peoples research as a guide only until proof has been found to confirm or refute it. Some of the queries are not related to the persons own lineage. There are also several members with more than one Blair line and I may have inadvertently indexed queries to the wrong lineage. There are also a number of queries that were placed and the member later learned additional ancestry of the family. They are place with the earliest ancestor of the member, even though they do not refer to that person in the query. If you are new to genealogy I suggest you read several of the general articles on research, sources, etc. Your genealogy is only as good as the sources used to compile it. SECTION 1.
