In those five ties, four came by a score of 0-0. The total eclipsed the previous national record of scoreless ties, but were the second- Overall Results: 4-9-5 most during the 2005 season in which San Diego State tied six times, including five scoreless draws. All five ties CAA: 2-4-5 (tie for ninth) for the Tribe came during the Colonial Athletic Association portion of the schedule. Hoxie Earns CAA Honor Sept. 3 Saint Joseph’s W, 8-0 Rookie Andrew Hoxie garnered CAA All-Rookie Team honors during the 2005 slate. The Newport News, Va., Sept. 9 vs. #13 Clemson $ L, 2-3 (2OT) native ranked third on a team with 11 points, while tying for second in goals with five. Eight men’s soccer athletes earned CAA Commissioner’s Awards. Scott Kelsey, Jeff Marklin, Doug Oct. 7 at Drexel * W, 2-1 McBride, Andreas Nydal, Ryan Overdevest, Patrick Scherder, Ryan Sells and Clayton Voss were all recognized Oct. 9 at Delaware * W, 1-0 for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom. Marklin and Overdevest took home 2005-06 Oct. 14 Hofstra * L, 1-2 (OT) W&M Provost Academic Awards. The honor is earned based on cumulative grade point average, with upper- classman needing a 3.50 GPA, or above, in their college career and freshmen needing a 3.75 GPA through their Oct. 16 Northeastern * T, 0-0 (2OT) first semester. The Tribe fell Oct. 30 at George Mason * L, 2-3 to five teams ranked among the nation’s top 20, including four by one goal. In fact, of the Tribe’s nine losses on Nov. 4 #8 Old Dominion * L, 0-2 the 2005 campaign, eight came by a single tally, including three in overtime. * Colonial Athletic Association game Offensive Outburst #-ODU Stihl Soccer Classic (Norfolk, Va.) The Tribe opened the 2005 season with an offensive bonanza of goals in an 8-0 victory over Saint Joseph’s. The eight-goal performance was the first for the College since the 2000 season. The last time W&M scored more Top Individual Honors than eight goals in a game was Sept. 8, 2000, when it defeated Delaware, 9-0. In the victory over Saint Joseph’s, Andrew Hoxie, Andreas Nydal and Jarrett Thomas each recorded a pair of goals. It marked the first time since Sept. 6, 1997 that three W&M players had multi-goal performances in the same game. On that date against CAA All-Rookie Team Robert Morris, Wade Barrett recorded a hat trick, while Dan Zickefoose and Adam Schultz added two goals in Andrew Hoxie the 7-0 win. CAA Rookie of the Week Blanking the Opposition Brennan Wregley (Oct. 24) Junior Brennan Wergley became the first W&M goalkeeper to record three-straight overtime shutouts. After making his first career start against No. 10 North Carolina, Wergley recorded shutouts against JMU (Oct. 21), CAA Commissioner’s Award VCU (Oct. 23) and Towson (Oct. 28). All three games ended in scoreless draws. During the stretch, Wergley’s Scott Kelsey shutout streak reached 426:09. He stopped six or more shots in all six of his starts during the 2005 season, Jeffrey Marklin including a career-high nine saves against JMU. Following his shutout performances against VCU and Towson, Douglas McBride Wergley earned the CAA Rookie of the Week honor on Oct. 24. Andreas Nydal Ryan Overdevest Leading Scorer Patrick Scherder Jarrett Thomas won the Tribe’s Golden Boot Award in 2005, topping the team in goals and points. The McLean, Ryan Sells Va., native finished his junior campaign with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Thomas had a pair of Clayton Voss two-goal games for the Tribe. He notched two tallies in the season-opener against Saint Joseph’s, before knock- ing in both W&M goals in a 2-1 victory at VMI. For the season, he ranked ninth in the CAA in points and Team Awards 10th in goals. Most Valuable Player: Clayton Voss Golden Boot: Jarrett Thomas Team Honors Pipeline: Clayton Voss Clayton Voss was named the Tribe’s Most Valuable Player for the 2005 season. He was one of just two players to Best Rookie: Andrew Hoxie, Brock Jones, start all 18 matches in 2005 and also received W&M’s Pipeline Award by virtue of his team-leading four assists.
