The week is focused on sport within Assistant Yorkshire, so we thought that it is a great opportunity for our pupils to learn about the Headteacher sports stars within our area and what they can aspire to if we follow in their footsteps. Mr L Booth The children will learn more about a particular sporting hero in each year group: finding School Business out about their career, the barriers they have overcome and what they have achieved. Manager: Keep an eye out for some of the work that will be presented to you via Bloomz. Mrs K Ineson Year 3 will learn about: Hannah Cockcroft MBE, from Halifax, who is a Chair of wheelchair racer specialising in sprint distances. Governors Mrs L Simpson Year 4 will learn about: Rob Burrow MBE, from Castleford, who is a well- renowned rugby player. Year 5 will learn about: Jonny Bairstow, from Bradford, who is an international cricketer for England and plays domestically for Yorkshire. Year 6 will learn about: Nicola Adams OBE, from Leeds, who is an Olympic Boxer – she held the WBO female flyweight title in 2019. The children will also take part in a multi skills circuit on Thursday, 18th March so they should come in PE kit on this day. The circuit will consist of 3 rounds where the children can measure their own performance and achieve a personal best as well as trying to set records. CBG’s will be awarded for effort, participation, team work and resilience. Fundraising for MND and school - #CPJA 7in7 We would like also like to dedicate some fundraising to Rob Burrow MBE, to raise awareness, support the many people that are suffering with Motor Neurone Disease and encourage them to continue to battle against it as he has. To do this, the children will take part in a “”7 in 7” sponsored walk inspired by the outstanding achievement of Kevin Sinfield, Rob’s teammate, who completed 7 marathons in 7 days. Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing a daily “Fit in 15” session during the school day to improve the children’s awareness of why physical and mental wellbeing are so important and how perseverance helps improve stamina. Towards the end of next term, we will then participate in our very own “7 in 7” where they will work together as part of a team and support one another to show great sportsmanship and see how many miles they can walk/run as a class within an hour to raise funds. Each class will have an allocated hour of the day to do this across the 7 hour school day and will encourage each other to walk/run as many as they can – collecting a counter for each mile around our course. Then the counters will be added up to calculate a class total that has been achieved. We have attached a sponsorship form with this letter - can you sponsor your child’s class to achieve a certain number of miles, or donate an amount to help MND and school? We will separate the funds we raise – giving 75% to MND and keeping 25% to contribute to school improvements – we are continually looking at how we can improve what is on our playground and the equipment that is available to help keep the children active at playtime and inspire a love of physical activity and the benefits it has. Kind regards, Miss Dixon and Miss Marchant – PE coordinators Red Nose Day – Friday March 19th To raise money for Comic Relief on this day, we’re going to… • Dress down for the day – children and staff can wear non-uniform or superhero fancy dress for the day contributing to Comic Relief by donating 50p per child/£1 per family on Parent Pay. • A virtual quiz will also be prepared by each class for their parents – who knows what the subjects might be! A little role reversal to lockdown! Parents will be invited on Zoom and can enter with a 50p subscription paid on ParentPay. Red Noses will be sold from 56N classroom each day from 14:45 – they are £1.50 each. We really appreciate your support and hope that you’ll have fun helping us raise lots of money. Yours faithfully, Mrs Nicholls – School Council Leader In addition to the focus of our inspirational sports star week, we are also going to complete a “7 in 7” as a school on Wednesday, May 5th. We would be grateful for any sponsorship that you can raise for this incredible charity and the work they do to raise awareness and fund research into finding a cure for this debilitating disease. All monies raised will be split between MNDA (75%) and school (25%) to enable us to keep providing resources to promote overall wellbeing in our students.
