• Approximate project cost £215k. Project aim is to improve the condition of Burrs Aqueduct (Elton Reservoir Feeder – , Bury & Canal) by:

• Injection of grout to either side of the aqueduct has been successfully completed.

• Repair / replace damaged parapet rails is being undertaken in May 2018

Approximate total project cost is £115k.

• Works completed in November 2017 on the Trent & Mersey between Bridge 207 and 208 (nr. Bartington)

• 150m of collapsed washwall was repaired with trench sheets, and 30m of concrete bag wall repairs.

• Approx. cost of the project was £200k. • Significant leakage was evident at 3 no. locations along Embankment 4 (Peak Forest Canal, nr Hyde).

• Leak detection works in 2016 pinpointed the leak locations and depths.

• Following worsening of leaks into Stirling Lloyd’s factory and across contaminated land, emergency grouting works were completed in March 2017.

• Remaining grouting works were completed in November 2017.

• Project cost £185k. • Scope: Dredge south of Harecastle Tunnel. • Ebsford Environmental have completed the works dredging the winding hole, main channel and moorings (red hatched area on drawing) • The arisings were deposited on bank side land (former dredging tip) which will be restored once the material has dried. • Cost: £40k • Construction work started Jan 18 (enabling works Dec 17)

• Scope: Dismantling and reconstruction of failed lock chamber wall, using a concealed reinforced concrete structure behind the re-built wall.

• Challenges/delays:

• Original masonry blocks delaminating (splitting) while being removed. Stone match found at local quarry and 63 new stones cut.

• Freezing weather conditions late February, closed the site and local concrete plants.

• The brickwork at the base of the chamber wall has failed. The masonry wall is to be founded on this, so the brickwork has to be dismantled and rebuilt

• Revised navigation opening: 25th May

• Project costs: £1.2m • Work started January and completed April 2018

• While the whole of the Marple Lock flight was closed due to the chamber wall movement at Lock 15, the opportunity was taken to bring forward any planned/unplanned improvement works associated with the flight.

• The works included vegetation clearance, washwall repairs, towpath improvements, rebuilding lock quadrants, lock gate replacement, tail gate paddle refurbishment and cill & buffer repairs.

• Project costs: £370k • Installation of safety parapet railings on the offside of Marple Aqueduct (Peak Forest Canal), to improve visitor safety and reduce the risk of accidents. • Approximate cost £435k. • Works started on site at the end of January 2018 and is due for completion by end of April. • Design completed by Knight Architects and Arcadis, to form a sympathetic, bespoke and minimally invasive addition to this extremely valuable heritage asset. • The chosen design is based on a ‘cotton weave’ concept, taking the idea from the history of cotton transport on the Peak Forest Canal, and the nearby Mellor Mill. • Rolling nationwide programme of polyurethane resin injection. When the resin comes into contact with water, it reacts to produce a rapidly expanding closed cell foam, filling voids and sealing leak paths.

• Nationwide budget increased to £2.55m due to urgent additions, and works on the Marple flight. Approx. £1.4m spent across the MP&P region. • Site investigation undertaken including CCTV and Laser Survey

• Specialist “No Dig Techniques” are being evaluated for replacement of the culvert.

• Theses techniques ensure minimal disruption to the canal though, some disruption to the towpath should be expected.

• Project is anticipated to start on site in June 2018 and take approx. 6 Weeks to complete.

Flooding to adjoining private residential land • Project is to improve the condition grade of Snapes Aqueduct (Trent & Mersey Canal, nr Rode Heath)

• Repairs including replacement of damaged brickwork, repointing of mortar joints on North South Elevations and in arch barrel .

• Requires a temporary closure of Old Knutsford Road.

• Start date: 23 April 2018

• Approximate project cost £90k. • Six quadrants on the East side of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal have collapsed in recent months and have been infilled with stone. • 42 locks on the east side of the HNC were drilled to investigate the extent of voiding under the tail quadrants. • 32 lock quadrants are in need of repair, 25 of these have significant voiding. • £750k budget allocated • Repairs to be carried out throughout 2018 View of Existing Project is to improve the condition of the pedestrian crossing Footbridge • We are looking at a design that may allow us to use the existing abutments, though significant modifications to the access steps will be required.

• We are liaising with the local authority regarding any joint initiatives that can be undertaken as part of the works.

• The works will also include a small section of the Rudyard feeder to remove silt and vegetation to facilitate the feed.

• Works are planned in the Autumn in conjunction with the Spot Dredging.

• Budget £150k • Investigations are under way at four sites known for siltation: • Cobblers Brook Confluence • Oakmeadowford Winding Hole • River Churnet Confluence • Crowgutter Brook Confluence.

• The works will be carried out in conjunction with the Leek Branch Spot Dredging making savings costs on mobilisation/de-mobilisation costs • Deposition on adjacent land is being investigated. • Works due to start November 2019 • Budget: £75k Junction (PF-001) • The project is spot dredging of the Peak Forest Canal from PF- 006 (Bridge 9) to PF-024 () • Future works planned from PF- 001 to PF-006 in 2019/20

• The investigations show that PF-001 to PF-017 generally fail MOC with spot dredging required from PF-017 (Bridge 24) to PF- 024.

Marple (PF-012) • There is potential to bring forward the 2019/20 works and dredge from PF-001 to PF-017 with spot dredging

from PF-018 to PF-024 Marple (PF-012) this will allow efficiency savings on mob/de-mob and site set up.

• The works will also include some spot dredging on the Bugsworth Arm and Combs feeder.

• Works are planned for August 2018

Disley Whaley Bridge (PF-024) • Dredging works on the Macclesfield Canal will continue from MA-022 (the end of the 2017/18 Sutton Reservoir (MA-022) works) south towards MA-037 (budget allowing).
