Conference Guide Forest before trees: Towards identifying general patterns in text and graphics research August 27th - 29th, 2018 University of Freiburg, Germany Editors: Alexander Eitel, Mireille Bétrancourt, Janina Lehmann, Juliette Désiron 1 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS When organizing a conference, there are many smaller and bigger things that need to be taken care of. It is sometimes hard to see the bigger picture, namely the whole forest, among the many single tasks or trees. However, we were fortunate enough to have several people and organizations that helped us find our way through the forest! Here we want to express our special thanks organized in t(h)ree sections. First, we would like to express our dearest thanks to the members of both the scien- tific and the local organizing committee. Without your voluntary work, this confer- ence would have never happened! Second, we are grateful to all the participants including the keynote speakers who came from near and far to present their work and discuss ideas. This year, we re- ceived a total of 56 submissions by authors from 19 different countries. An additional warm thanks goes to the participants who served as session chair, and/or as mem- bers of the junior researcher award committee. Third, we would like to thank the Psychology Department of Freiburg University as well as the EARLI office for their kind support in making this conference possible. We also want to express our thanks to the German Research Foundation (DFG) who pro- vided crucial third-party funding. To all the participants, we wish you a very pleasant, “treelling” and “unforestable” confer- ence experience!
