This funding allows recipients to plan for the revitalization of underutilized, vacant, and brownfield sites by establishing a vision for their redevelopment, and strategies to return the sites to productive use. The 1,045-acre Buffalo Harbor BOA includes the Inner and Outer Harbors and a portion of the city’s Central Business District.

This Nomination Document outlines the final strategy for the designation of Buffalo Harbor as a BOA. This designa- tion provides expanded eligibility for state-sponsored envi- ronmental and economic development programs, including favorable tax and investment incentives for private devel- opment. The Buffalo Harbor BOA encompasses 1,045 acres (about 1.6 square miles), and includes the Inner and Outer Har- bors and a portion of the city’s Central Business District.

Last year, we awarded nearly $12 million through 178 grants—the highest number in our history—to support a wide variety of organizations in our five focus areas. We continued our work beyond grantmaking to help expand the capacity of local nonprofits, build leadership, and connect people and organizations for greater impact. This year was one of transition as our Board Chair, James M. Wadsworth, stepped down after 17 years, and William G. Gisel, Jr. took the helm as Chair.
