Chapter IV Dress and Fabrics of the Mughals- The great Mughal emperor Akbar was not only a great ruler, an administrator and a lover of art and architecture but also a true admirer and entrepreneur of different patterns and designs of clothing. The changes and development brought by him from Ottoman origin to its Indian orientation based on the land‟s culture, custom and climatic conditions. This is apparent in the use of the fabric, the length of the dresses or their ornamentation. Since very little that is truly contemporary with the period of Babur and Humayun has survived in paintings, it is not easy to determine exactly what the various dresses look like other than what has been observed by the painters themselves. But we catch a glimpse of the foreign style of these dresses even in the paintings from Akbar‟s period which make references, as in illustrations of history or chronicles of the earlier times like the Babar-Namah or the Humayun-Namah.1 With the coming of Mughals in India we find the Iranian and Central Asian fashion in their dresses and a different concept in clothing.2 (Plate no. 1) Dress items of the Mughals: Akbar paid much attention to the establishment and working of the various karkhanas. Though articles were imported from Iran, Europe and Mongolia but effort were also made to produce various stuffs indigenously. Skilful master and workmen were invited and patronised to settle in this country to teach people and improve system of manufacture.2 Imperial workshops Karkhanas) were established in the towns of Lahore, Agra, Fatehpur Sikri and Ahmedabad. -

Fashion Trends 2016 U.S. & U.K. Report [email protected] Intro With every query typed into a search bar, we are given a glimpse into user considerations or intentions. By compiling top searches, we are able to render a strong representation of the population and gain insight into this population’s behavior. In our second iteration of the Google Fashion Trends Report, we are excited to introduce data from multiple markets. This report focuses on apparel trends from the United States and United Kingdom to enable a better understanding of how trends spread and behaviors emerge across the two markets. We are proud to share this iteration and look forward to hearing back from you. Olivier Zimmer | Trends Data Scientist Yarden Horwitz | Trends Brand Strategist Methodology To compile a list of accurate trends within the fashion industry, we pulled top volume queries related to the apparel category and looked at their monthly volume from May 2014 to May 2016. We first removed any seasonal effect, and then measured the year-over-year growth, velocity, and acceleration for each search query. Based on these metrics, we were able to classify the queries into similar trend patterns. We then curated the most significant trends to illustrate interesting shifts in behavior. Socks, Leggings, and Leg Warmers are not Footwear In view of the Agreement’s plain language, Meynard’s position that the Opposed Mark violates the Agreement is unreasonable. First, Meynard’s assertion that “socks”, “leg warmers” and “leggings” are “footwear of any type” is without merit. The Oxford English dictionary defines footwear as “outer coverings for the feet, such as shoes, boots and sandals”. (Exhibit A.) While socks are worn on the feet, they are not outer coverings for the feet and therefore “socks” are not “footwear of any type”. -

Or a fluid season of see it/buy it and see it/wait for it? The key word is fluid, as in… Gender Fluid. As more women lead the same business lives as men, the more the clothes for those shared needs become less sex-specific. Raf Simons of Calvin Klein and Anna Sui showed men and women in identical outfits. For the first time, significant numbers of male models shared the runways with female models. Some designers showed menswear separately from women’s wear but sequentially at the same site. Transgender Fluid. Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler hired transgender models. Transsexuals also modeled in London, Milan and Paris. On the runways, diversity is the meme of the season. Model selections are more inclusive—not only gender fluid, but also age fluid, race fluid, size fluid, religion fluid. And Location Fluid. Philipp Plein leaves Milan for New York. Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy leave New York for Paris. Tommy Hilfiger, Rebecca Minkoff and Rachel Comey leave New York for Los Angeles. Tom Ford returns to New York from London and Los Angeles. Given all this fluidity, you could say: This is Fashion’s Watershed Moment. The moment of Woman as Warrior—armed and ready for the battlefield. Woman in Control of Her Body—to reveal, as in the peekaboobs by Anthony Vaccarello for Yves Saint Laurent. -
