About the Collection

The collection consists primarily of files created and/or accrued by staff of the Department of Athletics at Norwich University. Some of the materials came to the archives via the NU print shop in 2004. Other records were transferred to the archives in October 2007, October 2010 and August 2019. Still other items came from donations and accessions at various other times.

Their contents are highly varied, but consist in large part of rosters, schedules, statistics, programs, media guides, news clippings, press releases, and administrative records. The chronological season files for each sport may contain a mixture of these and other materials.

About the Department of Athletics

The Norwich University Department of Athletics offered 11 varsity sports for men and 9 varsity sports for women as of 2014. These intercollegiate teams compete in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), adhering to that organization’s rules and philosophy. The department supports student-athletes through the whole-person concept of fostering growth through fair play and sportsmanship, leadership, self-discipline, personal integrity, and social responsibility.

Most of the materials within the collection are open for research; however, the privacy of information contained in some records is protected by the Federal Educational Records and Privacy Act or other legislative or regulatory privacy provisions. The following types of records are restricted to protect the privacy rights of individuals about whom the information was collected.
