  • Tradition of Autumn Festivals in Slovakia Michaela Čiefová
ISSN: 2560-1601 Vol. 22, No. 3 (SK) Oct 2019 Slovakia social briefing: Tradition of Autumn Festivals in Slovakia Michaela Čiefová 1052 Budapest Petőfi Sándor utca 11. +36 1 5858 690 Kiadó: Kína-KKE Intézet Nonprofit Kft. [email protected] Szerkesztésért felelős személy: Chen Xin Kiadásért felelős személy: Huang Ping china-cee.eu 2017/01 Tradition of Autumn Festivals in Slovakia Slovakia is a country where there is something going on all the time. Each season of the year has its own specialities. Autumn in Slovakia is traditionally accompanied by wine festivals or similar events symbolising the end of the harvest and gratefulness for the crop. Celebrations of such kind have a long history in Slovakia, dating back hundreds of years. Surely, they look different now from what they used to look like in the past, but their popularity remains intact. Slovakia is famous worldwide for its spectacular wines, many of which have also been awarded at international contests or expos. Thanks to favourable natural conditions, there are regions in Slovakia where lovely sorts of wine are grown. Slovakia is a relatively small country, and natural conditions allow for wine to be grown in six traditionally recognized wine locations. These are as follows: Little Carpathians region, Southern Slovakia, Nitra region, Central Slovakia, Eastern Slovakia, and Tokaj region. The area of Tokaj in Slovakia is rather small; a larger part of it is located in Hungary. If we had a look at the map of Slovakia showcasing the six wine regions, we would conclude that they are all areas with lower altitude located mostly in the Southern part of the country.

  • International Catholic Reform Network Pezinok Slovakia, June 11-15, 2018
International Catholic Reform Network Pezinok Slovakia, June 11-15, 2018 ICRN’s identity and purpose We are Catholic priests- and reform-movements working together for and toward a pastoral church. ICRN is an international network of priest and lay reform movements that organizes pastoral dialogue-retreats to model and prepare the church for the future, to enable its members and invited participants to communicate and dialogue with one another honestly, to tell stories, to heal wounds from the struggles of reform, to give courage to all engaged, and to share energy, enthusiasm, ideas; and in some cases, to act. The church that we work for is one that has to be: INCLUSIVE: a church that reaches out to the people on the peripheries of life and the peripheries of church to bring them into the center of community in Christ. PARTICIPATORY: a church that empowers people to contribute all their charisms to their local faith-communities and the Church as a whole, respecting the dignity inherent in every human being and in all creation. 1 DIALOGICAL: a church that enables the people of God — the baptized and the inquiring, the hierarchs and the lowly, the thriving and the hurt — to enter sincere and authentic dialogue, to share their stories, to heal and to strengthen faith, hope and love, and to experience joy and peace together. FAITHFUL: a church that gathers communities of believers to pray together, to listen to the word together, to celebrate Eucharist together, to be creative in their expressions of faith, and to act on it. ICRN: a brief history The formation of the International Catholic Reform Network (ICRN) began with a friendship and a meeting of minds between Helmut Schüller (Austrian Pfarrer Initiative) and Tony Flannery C.Ss.R (Association of Catholic Priests, Ireland) in 2013.

March 2011 | Frontier Economics, Atkins, ITS 1 Appendix 9 – Bratislava Rača – Trnava Railway Upgrade in Slovakia 9.1 Introduction 9.1.1 Project overview This project covers the modernisation and upgrade of the railway link between Bratislava (Rača) to Trnava – approximately 40km of track in a north-easterly direction out of Bratislava. The main objective of the project was modernising the electrified line and to support speeds of up to 160 km/h. The scheme also was implemented to increase safety on the line, and to comply with EU interoperability requirements. The project included line and track works, as well as upgrades to a number of stations along the alignment to meet these objectives. Location The rail link forms part of the Trans-European Network (TEN-T). It is situated on Corridor Va. This corridor links Bratislava to Košice across Slovakia. The section under consideration forms part of Priority Axis No. 23. The figure below shows the location of the project in both a local and European context. • Urban and Rural Cultural Landscapes in the Functional Urban Region of Bratislava
EUROPA XXI Vol. 22/2012 URBAN AND RURAL CULTURAL LANDSCAPES IN THE FUNCTIONAL URBAN REGION OF BRATISLAVA JÁN HANUŠIN, MIKULÁŠ HUBA, VLADIMÍR IRA, PETER PODOLÁK Ján Hanušin, Mikuláš Huba, Vladimír Ira, Peter Podolák Geografický ústav SAV, Štefánikova 49, 814 73 Bratislava, Slovak Republic [email protected] Abstract. The characteristics both of urban and rural cultural landscapes were studied on the example of the NE sector of Bratislava Functional Urban Region (FUR), consisting of 18 municipalities with population of about 85,000. The aim of the paper is to assess three main domains – demographic changes, quality of life and environmental quality – in order to specify differences between the rural and urban cultural landscapes and classification of the area according to the urban/rural characteristics. The resulting distribution of urban/rural areas even with some deviations confirmed the general trend of an increasing rural character of the area with the increasing distance from Bratislava. Key words: Urban/rural space, cultural landscape, Bratislava Functional Urban Region, demographic situation, environmental quality, quality of life, land cover INTRODUCTION Cultural landscape is often interpreted depending on the ambivalent understanding of the notion “cultural“. On the one hand, cultural can be interpreted as anything related to culture, history, cultural heritage. On the other hand, it can be a synonym for civilisation. According to the first interpretation, cultural landscape is the landscape reflecting traditional features of local/regional type/types of landscape, while the other means any landscape changed by human activities. In this sense as well as according to the European Landscape Convention (ELC, www.coe.int/european- landscapeconvention) landscape protection means actions to conserve and maintain the significant or characteristic features of a landscape, justified by its heritage value derived from its natural configuration and/or from human activity.
