As an adult, Tew went back to Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter MN, where she was encouraged by her teacher Paul Granlund (1925–2003) to pursue Sculptor. Tew attributes most of her influences to the late Architect Ralph Rapson (1914–2008), who also designed the artist's home and was often found in Tew's studio and the late Modernist Charles Biederman (1906–2004). EARLY CAREER Tew began her career as a free lance fashion illustrator in Minneapolis at the age of 15. The drastic change in Tew's artistic direction was brought on by the death of her only child in 1969. GRANLUND — Hennes Art Company http://www.hennesart.com/granlund/ / /// / GRANLUND / / PAUL GRANLUND Hennes Art Company has been hired by the Granlund family to be the exclusive distributor of the remaining sculptures left in the artists collection. There are very few sculptures left. In addition, it was the artists' wish that there would be no additional castings made from the molds posthumously. The photos below represent the pieces currently available. For more information, please contact Greg Hennes. Best-known for his striking bronze sculptures, which merge the human and geometric forms, Paul T. Granlund began his studies as an artist at Gustavus College in St. Peter, Minnesota where he received his BA in 1952. He continued his studies at the University of Minnesota, then at Cranbrook Academy in Michigan, where he received his MFA in 1954. That year, he was also awarded a Fulbright Award to study in Florence, Italy. A Guggenheim award for 1957 and 1958 allowed him to study in Rome. For much of his career, Granlund was based at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. He built his studio and foundry there, and worked with generations of students as the sculptor-in-residence from 1971-1996. Granlund was widely read and interested math, science, religion, linguistics, music, and sports, and his work reflected the connections he made between these diverse fields.
