Pieri Memorial Award as the AHL Coach of the Year. Prior to the Monarchs, Stothers served as head coach of the Moose Jaw Warriors of the for three seasons (2011-14). Before that, he also served as a head coach – under then General Manager and current Kings Vice President of Hockey Operations and Director of Player Personnel Michael Futa –in the with the Owen Sound Attack (2002-07). Stothers was also a head coach in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins (2007-08), and as an assistant coach in the NHL with the Atlanta Thrashers (2010-11) and the (2000-02). He was a member of the Flyers coaching staff when Head Coach Bill Barber was named NHL Coach of the Year in 2001, and he was the head coach in Grand Rapids when the parent-club – coached by Mike Babcock – won the 2008 . Stothers worked as part of Babcock’s staff during the playoffs that season.

Stothers’ coaching career began during the 1991-92 season when he served as a player/assistant coach with the AHL’s Hershey Bears. He became a full-time assistant with the Bears in 1994 and stayed with the Bears in that same role through the 1995-96 season. From there, he took an assistant coaching position with the of the AHL and remained with the Phantoms for four seasons (1996-00) until taking an assistant coaching role with the parent club Flyers prior to the 2000-01 season. The Phantoms won the AHL’s Calder Cup in 1998 with Stothers as an assistant coach there.

As a player, Stothers, a Toronto-born defenseman who was selected in the first round (21st overall) by the Flyers at the 1980 NHL Draft, played in the NHL for both the Flyers and his hometown Maple Leafs. In 30 career NHL regular season games over parts of four seasons (1984-88), he totaled two points (0-2=2) and 65 penalty minutes. Stothers also appeared in five career postseason games during his NHL career, and he skated with the Flyers in the 1987 Stanley Cup Final. A veteran of 672 regular season games in the AHL with the Maine Mariners (1981-84), Hershey (1984-88 and 1988-92) and the New Market Saints (1987-88), Stothers played in the Calder Cup Final in 1983 with the Mariners, and then won the Calder Cup with the Mariners the following year (1984). He collected 144 points (38-106=144) and 1,840 penalty minutes during his 11-year AHL career and added another eight points (0-8=8) and 197 penalty minutes in 70 career AHL postseason games.

Prior to turning pro, Hajt served as an assistant coach with the Guelph Storm (OHL) from 2008-13 and made the playoffs in each of his six seasons with the team, including 2012-13 they won the Ontario Hockey League championship. Guelph represented the OHL at the 2014 Memorial Cup, losing in the championship game to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Hajt also played his junior hockey at Guelph from 1994-98. The defenseman played 222 regular-season games over four seasons there, recording 92 points (22-70=92), 212 penalty minutes and a plus-25 rating. He appeared in two Memorial Cup championships as a player, first in 1996, and then again in 1998, reaching the championship game before falling to Portland. Hajt also represented Team USA in the 1997 and 1998 World Junior Championships, winning a silver medal with the United States in 1997.

A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Hajt was drafted in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the , and he appeared in six regular-season games during his NHL career (one game with Edmonton in 2000-01; five games with Washington in 2003-04). His father, Bill Hajt, was a long-time defenseman (1973-87) who was drafted in the third round (33rd overall) of the 1971 NHL Entry Draft.

A veteran of 477 regular-season American Hockey League games, Hajt most recently played for the Lowell Lock Monsters during the 2005-06 season. He also played for the Hamilton Bulldogs (1998-02) and the Portland Pirates (2002-05) during his eight-year AHL career, recording 91 points (20-71=91), 337 penalty minutes and a plus-14 rating. He also appeared in 33 AHL postseason games, collecting eight points (2-6=8), 18 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating.

Hajt’s final professional season as a player was in 2006-07, as he skated over-seas in both Germany and Finland.

GULLS-REIGN: Ontario leads the series 1-0 and improved to 5-1 over the Gulls in postseason history. San Diego has faced Ontario one previous time in the playoffs, meeting in 2016 (Pacific Division Finals). Ontario prevailed in the season (in five games, 4-1) with the series featuring two overtime games and three one-goal contests. SEASON REVIEW: The Gulls posted a 43-20-3-2 record (.669 win %) in the regular season, and enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Division and Western Conference, Over the past two seasons, San Diego and Ontario have the top two records in the Western Conference, with the Gulls earning 82 wins, the most in the Pacific Division. The Gulls closed out the 2016-17 on a three-game win streak and a 15-6-1-0 mark in the last 22 games overall. Dating back to the midway point of the season, San Diego recorded wins in 25 of their last 34 contests (25-8-1-0) and 32 of the last 43 overall (32-9-1-1). San Diego also earned standings points in 20 of the last 28 (18-8-1-0), as well as points in 36 of 45 contests since Dec. 26 (32-9-2-2). The 68 points by the Gulls since Dec. 26 were the joint-most points in the league since Dec. 26 (68 points, also Chicago) despite San Diego playing three fewer games than Chicago.

POSTSEASON HISTORY: The 2017 postseason marks San Diego’s second consecutive appearance in the Calder Cup Playoffs after appearing in the postseason in 2016 during the club’s inaugural season. NIFTY 50: Throughout the 2016-17 regular season, 50 different players appeared in a game for San Diego, tied for the most players to appear in a game for a single team this season (also San Antonio). Of the 50 players, 14 were rookies that contributed 70-134=204 points in a combined 403 games (70 goals were 32% of team’s 221 goals).

ON THE LEADERBOARD: The Gulls ranked seventh among AHL teams in goals scored per game (3.25) and goals against per game (2.62), allowed the third-fewest goals in the league (178), and ranked fifth in shots for per game (32.4). San Diego set a club record 10-game road standings point streak (9-0-0-1) from Dec. 29 to Feb. 7 (9-0-0-1, 19 of a possible 20 points), surpassing the previous mark of seven consecutive road wins set from Feb. 12 to Mar. 19, 2016. The Gulls won 12 consecutive road games outside of California to conclude their 2016-17 out-of-state schedule with wins over Tucson (5), Texas (2), San Antonio (2), Rockford (1) and Iowa (1). The only two losses (one regulation, one overtime) outside of California came in Canada at Manitoba on Oct. 28-29.

LEADING SITUATIONS: This season when leading after the first period the Gulls posted a 28-0-1 record and a 31-1-2 mark when leading after two periods, including 62-1-2 dating back to last season. San Diego also earned a 28-2-2-1 mark when scoring the game’s first goal, ranking second in the AHL in win percentage when scoring first (.894). The club also had a 39-6-1-1 record when scoring three goals or more in a game.

DRAFT PARTY: San Diego boasts 22 NHL draft picks on the current roster and 12 that were selected by the Anaheim Ducks, including five picks in the first two rounds by NHL clubs (two first round selections). The Gulls roster of top- round selections include Max Jones (24th overall in 2016, ANA), Jeff Schultz (27th overall in 2004, WSH), Nick

SAN DIEGO IS A HOCKEY TOWN: This season San Diego saw more than 301,000 fans enter the turnstiles throughout the club’s 34 home games, including three sellouts (12,920) and 11 games of 10,000 or more fans. The Gulls led the Pacific Division and ranked third in the AHL with an average attendance of 8,876 in the 34 contests behind only Hershey and Cleveland. In the inaugural season, San Diego ranked second among AHL clubs in average attendance (8,675), bringing more than 296,000 fans to watch Gulls hockey at Valley View Casino Center.

Dallas Eakins is in his second season as Head Coach of the San Diego Gulls. Eakins guided the Gulls to a 43-20-3-2 record in 2016-17, the second-best record in the Pacific Division and the third overall record in the AHL, and the club’s second consecutive berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs. Named to his current post on June 26, 2015, Eakins led the Gulls to a 39-23-4-2 record in the inaugural season of the club, earning second place in the Pacific Division and fifth in the Western Conference. Eakins guided San Diego to its first Calder Cup Playoff appearance, winning its first series (3-1) over the Texas Stars. Under Eakins, San Diego advanced to the Pacific Division Finals where the club lost its second playoff series in five games versus the Ontario Reign.

On Nov. 12, 2016, Eakins earned his 200th career AHL win as the Gulls topped the Manitoba Moose 6-3. After 100 games behind San Diego’s bench, Eakins had led the club to a 56-35-6-3 record (.605 win %).

The Dade City, Fla. native previously served as Head Coach of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers from 2013-14 (113 games) after spending eight years in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. Eakins was Head Coach of the Toronto Marlies (AHL) from 2009-13, leading the team to a 157-114-41 record in 312 games. The Marlies finished atop the North Division during Eakins’ final two seasons behind the bench and won four of six playoff series. While with the Marlies, Eakins was named as one of two head coaches representing the Western Conference for the AHL All-Star Games for both the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. During the 2011-12 campaign, Eakins led the Marlies to a division-best 44-24-8 record and an appearance in the Calder Cup Final. Eakins has a career 196-137-45-2 record as Head Coach in the AHL.

Selected by Washington in the 10th round (208th overall) of the 1985 NHL Draft, Eakins appeared in 120 career NHL games with the Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, Phoenix Coyotes, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Calgary Flames. Eakins also played in the AHL and International Hockey League (IHL) during his professional career, winning both the Calder Cup (2002) and Turner Cup (2000). His final professional season was with the Manitoba Moose (AHL) before retiring on May 26, 2004. Eakins, his wife Ingrid, and daughters Emerson (8) and Cameron (5), reside in San Diego.

ASSISTANT COACH: Marty Wilford

Marty Wilford is in his second season as Assistant Coach with the San Diego Gulls and sixth season in the Anaheim organization. Wilford helped lead the Gulls to a Gulls to a 39-23-4-2 record in the inaugural season of the club, and its first Calder Cup Playoff appearance, including the club’s first-ever series win over the Texas Stars.

Wilford helped guide Anaheim’s AHL affiliate to a 104-99-25 record from 2012-15 in Norfolk, including a win over top- seeded Manchester in the first round of the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs. Wilford made his professional coaching debut in 2011-12 with Anaheim’s then-AHL affiliate in Syracuse, which went 37-29-10 and earned a berth in the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs.

The Peterborough, Ontario native retired from professional hockey in 2010-11 following four years playing overseas in Germany and Italy. Originally selected by Chicago in the sixth round (149th overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, Wilford collected 47-228=275 points with 573 PIM as a defenseman in 539 career AHL games from 2000-07. He is Norfolk’s all- time leading scorer among defensemen with 32-141=173 points in 318 games from 2000-05.

Wilford began his professional career in the International Hockey League, scoring 3-29=32 points in 186 games between 1997-00. He spent the last four seasons in Europe with Hamburg and Iserlong (Germany), and Fassa HC (Italy), notching 19-121=140 points in 146 contests.

VIDEO COACH: Brett Ferguson

Brett Ferguson is in his seventh season as the video coach for the Anaheim Ducks’ AHL affiliate and his second with the San Diego Gulls. Previously, Ferguson held the same role with the Norfolk Admirals (2012-15) and the Syracuse Crunch (2010-12).

Prior to joining the Ducks organization, Ferguson was an assistant coach with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League (USHL). Born in Sioux City, Iowa and raised in West Des Moines, Ferguson graduated from the University of South Carolina at Aiken in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He was a three-time Iowa High School State champion as a member of the Des Moines Capitals.

GOALTENDING COACH: J.F. Labbe

J.F. Labbe is in his first season as goaltending coach for the San Diego Gulls. Labbe previously served as goaltending coach for the Sherbrooke Phoenix of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) last season.

A native of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Labbe posted a 3-6-0 record with a 3.44 GAA and .889 SV% in 15 career NHL games with the New York Rangers and from 1999-03. He also played 10 seasons in the AHL from 1993- 03, going 202-151-52 with a 2.77 GAA and .913 SV% in 420 career games. Labbe won the Calder Cup with Hershey in 1996-97 and Harford in 1999-00, and was inducted into the AHL’s Hall of Fame in Feb. 2016.
