A Message from our Headteacher Dear Parents/Carers It has come around to that time of year again when our Year 11 students are currently on Study leave and sitting all their examinations. A copy of the Exam timetable is included for information. We wish them all the very best of luck in their exams and their future pursuits. The Year 11 Prom is due to take place on Wednesday 25th June and tickets are available from Mr Pearce, Head of Year 11. This month’s newsletter is packed with information; please take the time to read through. We try to mention all that has taken place over the term and all events coming up so if you have any news you would like to share in the Newsletter regarding the school or the Students please let us know. The second half of the Summer Term promises to be a busy and fun packed time for students. We have Opportunities Week, the PTA Summer Fayre, the Westcoast challenge and year 10 on their work experience placements, see further information in the following pages. All these events will be reported upon in our next Newsletter – the last in the current school Year! Yours sincerely Mrs A Bolt Headteacher Staff news Mrs Chesters will be on maternity leave from Friday 23rd May and we wish both her and Mr Chesters the very best, we will report on the new arrival in the next newsletter! Mr Mauger will be acting Head of Year 8 whilst Mrs Chesters is on maternity leave his e-mail address is [email protected]. Mr Wooldridge has had a new addition to his family, a little girl Lucy born on 12th May. Mum and baby are doing well! Congratulations to the Wooldridge family. Students raising funds for charity Once again a group of Year 10 girls have organised a sponsored swim for charity, and together raised £260. This money will be divided between Cancer Relief, Chest & Heart and Cheshire Homes, and will obviously be gratefully received. Well done to Tonicha Topley, Tiegan Batiste, Savi Gow and Jade Ferbrache. Accelerated Reader Programme This term we have started using an online reading programme put together by Renaissance Learning. Mrs Henry spent a long time last term organising and labelling the appropriate library books and all of Year 7 did an online reading test. This gave them a ‘zone’ (a range of number numbers) to select their reading books from to suit their ability and help their reading to progress. When students finish a book, they take a quick online test on the book and receive a score and points. Points make prizes! The programme is designed to improve reading with understanding and give us improved data on students, leading to better teaching and learning in all lessons, and therefore, ultimately, improved exam results. If you have a child in Year 7, please encourage them to read their chosen book in a quiet room for 20 minutes each night. This scheme has been paid for using the money raised by last year’s West Coast Challenge Sponsored Walk – the date of this year’s walk is Friday 4th July. More details to follow...
