Firstly I would like to welcome Guernsey FC to Redding Way, I think everyone will agree that Guernsey are the team to beat and the team to aspire too this season, their football has been of a standard two, three levels higher than step six and I wish them luck on there undoubted climb up the football pyramid.

Having been at Knaphill for just over a month I'm starting to form a team that can compete in this league week in and week out, its difficult to come in midway through the season and sign all the players that you wish to have for various reasons however, I am extremely happy with the players that have come in and I am very happy with the players who were already at the club, a couple of players have left the club after feeling they were not in my plans which is a shame but that’s football.

They say football is a funny old game and I think I agree, in our last game here at Redding Way we played Bookham off the park and won the game 4-0 with some quality football, we followed that with a solid 2-0 win away to local rivals Sheerwater, Fantastic, two wins in a row and two consecutive clean sheets and we think we've cracked it, however, our next match proved to be a different kettle of fish and the kettle stunk as we were awful, ill disciplined and unprofessional throughout and it cost us the match against a side who had been on a terrible run and we ended up losing the game 2-0, we had two players sent off, missed a pen, hit the post and got everything we deserved, Nothing!!

The Feltham defeat may well be a blessing in disguise, we've had a very good training session for tonight’s game and the players are ready and focus for our biggest game of the season and we hope we all do the club proud.

Come on the Knappers!!

Phil.

Good evening everyone and a warm welcome to Redding Way to the Guernsey players and officials for this our first Friday night league match in Division One. Since Knaphill and Guernsey met for the opening game of the season, our visitors have taken vast strides in their first season of league football and proudly sit top of the League with 18 wins from 20 matches and 55 points, their only loss being away to Spelthorne Sports.

Plenty of goals have come forth from the team which currently stands at 78 scored with just eleven conceded in those twenty games. Knaphill were the first team to play Guernsey at their Footes Lane Stadium on the 6th August which saw the league newcomers start with a resounding 5-0 win over us, which included a hat-trick from Ross Allen in the space of six minutes with all of Guernsey’s goals coming in the first half.

Ross has become a very prolific goalscorer and only last Saturday had another hat-trick in the 6-1 win over Cobham. I can foresee a League record coming up by the end of the season for the number of goals scored from one player, also a goals tally record from the team. Promotion favourites ? Very much so, and now have 14 games remaining including tonight’s match. About the only figure Knaphill are on level par with Guernsey, is we’ve both played 20 matches! Both clubs are well up on their fixtures and ahead of other clubs in Division One.

Since our last home game, the 4-0 win over Bookham, with goals from Michael Pym(2), Craig Knowles, and Matt Ward, Knaphill made it back to back wins in the away game at local rivals Sheerwater with a 2-0 success, making it six points in the space of five days, and two clean sheets. Michael Pym was on the scoresheet again with the first goal, with Kemo Maphela scoring a cracking goal at the start of the second half.

Then last Saturday away to Feltham and a challenge to make it three wins on the trot. But unfortunately no goals, no points and a 2-0 defeat which left the team 13th in the table. Feltham took the lead after twenty minutes, but the opportunity to equalise came two minutes later when Knaphill were awarded a penalty after Maphela was fouled in the box, but Steve Coultas sent his spot kick wide of the post.

Knaphill created a number of chances in the first half, but the hosts led by that single goal at halftime. Two minutes into the second half and Knaphill were trailing 2-0, and didn’t really create enough opportunities to get themselves back in the game, and to add to their woes of the disappointing result, two players, Steve Coultas and Matt Ward were both red carded for two bookable offences.

Knaphill Reserves pulled themselves back to winning ways following the defeat by Westfield, when they beat Bedfont Sports Reserves 3-1. Last Saturday’s league game at home to Farnham Town Reserves was postponed due to waterlogged pitch. On Thursday of last week, Knaphill Youth had a 4-1 win over Flackwell Heath Youth in the 2nd round of the Allied Counties League Cup. There’s more news and comment on the Reserves, the Youth team, and Ladies team, elsewhere in the programme.

Looking ahead to the remaining fixtures this month, and next Saturday 17th December Knaphill visit Hartley Wintney kick-off 3pm, and on Tuesday 27th December there’s our local derby at home to Westfield kick-off 12.00. With no games on Saturday 31st December, it’s into 2012 and the first game of the New Year will away to Eversley on Monday 2nd January, and Knaphill’s first match at home next month will be against Frimley Green on Saturday 7th January kick-off 3.00pm.

....and finally……Enjoy the game, have a safe journey home, and a Happy Christmas to you all……

Bryan

Back to back wins, both with a clean sheet, saw Knaphill make it a maximum tally of six points in five days when they gained a 2-0 win over Sheerwater on Saturday, and complete the double over their local rivals this season.

The game did not produce quite the same style and flair shown by Knaphill in the 4-0 win over Bookham in midweek, but the result against Sheerwater was more of a grafting display, and sufficient to gain valuable points. Two changes were made to the line up from midweek when a debut was given to new signing Shadrach Williams in place of the unavailable Craig Knowles, and Maphela replacing the injured Steve Coultas.

Knaphill should have taken an early lead when Michael Pym latched onto a through ball, but a rather tame effort was directed straight at Tony Davis in the home goal after just five minutes, whilst at the other end Sheerwater’s James Hills effort was saved well by keeper Dan Pritchard.

Luke Craig had a shot turned away for a corner after 18 minutes for Knaphill, and Sheerwater produced a couple of goal scoring chances around the half hour mark. The deadlock was broken in the 40th minute with Knaphill taking the lead, which after good work by Paul Wetherall, saw Michael Pym take his chance well to fire past the keeper from ten yards.

Within 90 seconds of the start in the second half, Knaphill made it 2-0. A dazzling run by Kemo Mephela as he weaved his way past four Sheerwater players, and finally another defender, to deliver a perfect strike past Davis from 20 yards. A worthy nomination for goal of the season.

During the half Knaphill’s play became a bit too casual in parts, from which they were nearly punished on a couple of occasions. But determination saw them hold firm, and with both sides having chances, the closest Knaphill came to a third was in the 80th minute when Craig had a header cleared off the line.

Knaphill will now be aiming to keep the win momentum going when they visit Feltham next Saturday.

Guernsey Football Club was formed in 2011 to offer the island's elite footballers the opportunity to progress and test themselves on a regular basis outside of the Channel Islands. The proposal to establish the club and seek to join the English national league pyramid system was developed by the Guernsey Football Association in an attempt to further advance development opportunities for the island's current and future players by playing at higher levels on a regular basis. We are an independent, community amateur football club which plays in the Combined Counties League Division One at step 6 on English football's non-league pyramid system. The club is owned and run for the benefit of the local Guernsey community and it plays its home games at the Footes Lane Stadium. The club's vision is to create, develop and maintain a sustainable, successful, financially viable, democratic football club that creates and maintains real and lasting benefits to its members and the local Guernsey community. We are a registered charity and will remain a non-profit organisation with any financial surpluses being re-invested for the future viability of the club and hence the benefit of the local community. All club officials and staff are volunteers.

The initial idea to establish Guernsey FC was developed during the 2009/10 season when Guernsey's Senior County Division One representative side enjoyed a successful run in the FA National League System Cup (for league representative sides at step 7 on the non-league pyramid system and below, and since renamed the FA Inter-League Cup) culminating in Guernsey beating the Liverpool County Premier League 5-2 in the final in May 2010. Along the way, Guernsey defeated representative sides from the Kent County Premier League, the Northampton Premier League, the Southern Amateur League, the Hertfordshire Premier League, and the Dorset Premier League. The final was held in Guernsey in front of a crowd of over 2,500 and was the first time ever that the FA had allowed one of its competition finals to be held outside of the UK mainland.

Following a 1-0 victory over Jersey to reclaim the Muratti Vase in May 2010, the prize for winning the FA NLS Cup for this same squad of players was to represent England in the UEFA Regions Cup in Croatia in September 2010. This was a fantastic experience for the players and coaching and medical staff and, al- though Guernsey enjoyed mixed fortunes by beating Wales, drawing with hosts Croatia and losing to group winners Turkey, it provided football at a higher standard, was very motivational and gave our players a great desire to improve further and to play more regularly at higher levels.

Over the course of the following few months, the club's founding directors, Steve Dewsnip and Mark Le Tissier, received encouragement from the Football Association, the Guernsey FA, the Combined Counties League (which we were introduced to by the FA), our official main club sponsor Sportingbet, the island's government (the ) and the island's local football community to develop our plans for the new club further and were delighted when the member clubs of the Combined Counties League voted by a significant majority on 20 June 2011 to allow Guernsey FC to join division one of their league.

Although our club is very young, football in Guernsey has a long history dating back to 1893 when the Guernsey FA was established and since then has produced several players who have graced the highest levels of the English professional game, including Bill Spurdle (Manchester City), Richard Le Flem (Nottingham Forest & England U23), Ron Farmer (Coventry City), Len Duquemin (Tottenham Hotspur) and, more recently and more famously, our Club President Matt Le Tissier (Southampton & England).

Knaphill Reserves 3 Bedfont Sports Reserves 1 Saturday 26th November 2011

We were strengthened for the visit of Bedfont Sports by the inclusion of Sean Harvey, Billy Wilson and Craig Woodley from the 1st team and the return of Tony Kavanagh into central midfield.

The extra experience helped us to have the majority of possession for the first twenty minutess but we failed to turn this into a goal. As the half progressed Bedfont created their own chances but a couple of smart saves from Jimmy Edwick protected our clean sheet and a 0-0 half time score.

The second half we started well again with our midfield dominating and a great through ball from Craig Woodley was accepted by Shane Cummins to finish well. Ten minutess later a quick free kick from the edge of our own box, by the ever influential Woodley, picked out Perry Coles inside Bedfont Sports penalty area who tricked the full back and crossed for Cummins to notch his sixth goal in the last four games.

Just when the game looked dead, Bedfont scored from a decent strike to make it 2-1. With the last period of the game looking nervous for us a well worked free kick was smashed into the roof of the net by Woodley to secure all three points.

The John Greenacre Trophy is a cup competition for all the Ladies sides playing in Greater London and Knaphill are now through to the last 16 having reached the semi-finals last year only to lose a thrilling game 3-4 against London Allstars. The girls are looking to go one stage further this year and wait to hear who their opponents will be in the next round.

I have misled you slightly in the fact that during their run of defeats, Luton Town Ladies Reserves failed to fulfil a fixture and Knaphill were awarded the three points that lifted them off the bottom of the table and into 9th position out of 11. Their next game is against the same opposition as last Sunday, Brentford Ladies, in the league at Redding Way and hope are high of another victory to lift them further away from the bottom of the table.

The double header in the County Cup played at Redding Way on Sunday 20th November proved to be a disappointing as both The Ladies and The U18’s failed to make the 3rd round. Adie Wilson’s U18’s lost a close fought game against very tough opposition in Fulham Compton OB Ladies who then returned to Redding Way a week later and delivered a 0-4 defeat of The Ladies to maintain their position at the top of the London & SE Regional League Division 1. The Ladies themselves lost out to strong local rivals Westfield 0-3 after the U18’s match, so disappointment all round.

The U18’s however have continued their good form in both their Surrey Ladies league and cup competitions, currently leading the league by 3 points and storming into the League Cup semi-finals with an impressive 3-1 defeat of Abbey Rangers Girls last Sunday. Their opponents in the semi-final will be Croydon Borough Girls on Sunday Jan 8th in Croydon with a final against either QPR Girls or Colne Valley A who lie 2nd and 3rd respectively in the U18 Premier Division table behind Knaphill. Good luck to both teams for the rest of the season!

After a run of three consecutive defeats the U18’s turned in an accomplished performance to win their third round Allied Counties League Cup tie at Flackwell Heath in High Wycombe. The day started badly with a horrendous journey which meant the minibus carrying the majority of the team arrived 15 minutes after the scheduled start time. With little in the way of a warm-up and team talks the boys took to the field and within twenty minutes were 3-0 up courtesy of Harry Maynard (2) and Josh Hughes – all well taken goals from a well organised team performance. The second half saw wave after wave of Knaphill attacks, but with only a Harrison Deacon strike to show for all the efforts. The last 10 minutes saw a drop in concentration and Flackwell Heath pulled back nothing more than a consolation goal. A fine team performance from all involved, including the two lads who travelled as part of the five substitutes who did not get on.

Following the 5-1 win at Holmer Green in the previous round of the cup, the lads seem to lose their way with a frustrating home performance in the league against a well drilled Alton Town team who we had beaten a few weeks before 1-0 at their ground. The visitors extracted their revenge with the same score-line win after Knaphill had hit the woodwork, shots cleared off the line after the Alton goalkeeper, who played an absolute blinder, was eventually beaten.

A trip to Fleet Town saw a depleted squad and a disjointed performance which had a score-less first half, only for Fleet to take the lead immediately after half time. A second followed half way through the second half and although Harry Maynard pulled one back with 10 to go, two further sloppy goals relegated The Knappers to a disappointing 1-4 defeat.

The next game featured another away cup game, this time in The County Cup and a trip to Walton & Hersham. The less said about this game the better. Ninety minutes of poor football from both sides resulted in deadlock. The only highlight being the performance of new keeper Benis Luwana, who performed well on his Knappers debut. Despite a disallowed Harry Maynard goal, extra time finished goalless. Only Harry managed to score in the penalty shoot-out as three Knaphill players missed the target (3-1 on pens to Walton & Hersham).

The U18’s have one last game this year on 22nd December at Redding Way against Fleet Town KO 7.30pm. The main interest will be in the scoring record of main front two Josh Hughes (7) and Harrison Deacon (6), ably supported by Haluna Mesembe. There are at least 7 further home games to be played in the New Year, so please keep on a eye on the website to see when the boys will be playing. Home games at 7.30pm on Thursday nights – see you there!

matchreport saturday december 3 19 2011 feltham 2 knaphill 0 combined counties league division one

Knaphill went into the game away to Feltham, looking to enhance on their previous two matches that had produced maximum points and two clean sheets. But a third successive win failed to materialise, and they came out of the game pointless. Knaphill had more than their fair share of the first half which saw them create enough chances to have been holding a healthy lead, but it turned out to be the opposite, even missing a penalty, two minutes after Feltham’s opening goal.

The first opportunity to open the scoring fell to Knaphill’s Paul Wetherall after nine minutes, but although latching onto a fine cross from Kemo Maphela, he skied his effort well over the bar when he should have buried the perfect chance to give Knaphill the lead. Maphela then showed how to direct a shot on goal in the 17th minute when his effort from 25 yards was diverted away by the keeper.

Three minutes later, it was Feltham who had their chance to score, which was seized upon when Ricky Chase found a gap in Knaphill’s defence to drill the ball past Pritchard to make it 1-0. Knaphill had a good opportunity to equalise on 22 minutes after Maphela was fouled in the box, but Steve Coultas saw his poor spot kick veer past the post. Other chances came from Shadrach Williams on the half hour, followed by a Matt Ward effort, both saved by the keeper, as the half finished with the home side hanging on to their single goal lead.

Knaphill needed to step up a gear in the second half if they were to get anything out of the game, but lacked sufficient creativity, sharpness and composure in their play as the game progressed. The half got off to bad start for the visitors when they conceded a second goal in the 48th minute, Chase delivering a shot from 25 yards that looped over the Knaphill keeper to nestle in the back of the net.

In comparison with the first half, Knaphill’s chances became more limited in the second period, a weak Wetherall shot was wide of the post on 64 minutes and in the latter stages, the home keeper pushed Maphela’s effort away for a corner. With Steve Coultas sent off after a second yellow card, and Matt Ward suffering the same, he was dismissed in stoppage time, it proved a disappointing result for the team in more ways than one.

Pritchard, Pearce.J(Knowles 56), Ward, Pearce.G(Hadley 66)Macaskill, Collins, Wetherall, Coultas, Williams, Craig(Coombs 66) Maphela.
