Fortunately, you do NOT need to be an astrologer or know what a "Moon nakshatra" is to read this report! If you are an astrologer or student of astrology, the astrological details are described as well, and you can easily skip over these technical astrological details if they do not interest you. In this report there are quotations from the following books: "Yogas In Astrology" by Dr. K S Charak, 1999, published by UMA Publications, 72 Gagan Vihat, Delhi-110 051, India "Three Hundred Important Combinations" by B.V. Raman, 1997, published by Motilal Banarsidass Publishers Private Limited, Delhi, India "Constellational Astrology" by Robert De Luce, 1963, De Luce Publishing Company, Los Angeles, CA, USA If you are interested in learning Vedic astrology, we highly recommend these 3 books. Only small sections that are relevant to a particular astrological influence have been quoted from these books. These works are based on the ancient Vedic writings (the Vedas) and have been elaborated upon and explained in terms that make sense for modern people. "Constellational Astrology" is no longer in print, but the other two books can be purchased. Important: The interpretations in this report are based on the ancient system of Vedic astrology. Many of these interpretations are fatalistic and some are even extreme, frightening, and are now known to be not literally correct! You should interpret the influences described here in more psychological and general terms. Do not take the statements given in this report literally! The extreme and definite interpretations in this report should be viewed as indicating psychological tendencies rather than absolute facts. Also, modern astrologers believe that there is a negative and a positive potential in any astrological influence. Even the most difficult astrological influence can be handled successfully, and an astrological influence that might seem beneficial can be mishandled. Astrologers do claim to be able to describe the important issues and themes in your life, but what is good or bad is mostly up to you. Section I: The Moons Nakshatras and Rasi Nakshatras are also known as lunar mansions. There are 27 nakshatras, and each one has a length of 13 degrees and 20 minutes. The nakshatra position of the Moon is very important in Vedic astrology. Given below is the meaning of the Moon's nakshatra and Moon sign (rasi) in your chart. Moon in 17th nakshatra: The Moon is in Anuradha, the seventeenth nakshatra (3 deg 20 min to 16 deg 40 min of Scorpio). You love to travel and explore, and you may find it difficult to settle down in one place, or make long-term commitments. You have expensive tastes, appreciate items of high quality, and you are unwilling to go without the comforts that you are accustomed to, even for a short period of time. Moon is in Scorpio rasi: According to De Luce: "The native will have wide-apart eyes, a broad chest, rounded thighs and knees (one of wide influence); will be separated from his parents and preceptors (does not make educational progress); will be afflicted with disease when young (indolent); will be honored by the king's family (liked by those in high places). His complexion will be ruddy or dark (passionate or malevolent nature); he will not be straightforward; will have lines in his hands and feet the shape of fish and birds (signifying in Hindu palmistry that the early life is good, middle life moderate, later life evil); and will endeavor to conceal his sins (secretly does harm to others)." Section II: Yogas You may be familiar with the word "yoga" as referring to various physical exercises and postures. The word "yoga" has a very different meaning as used in astrology and does not refer to physical exercises. The word yoga literally means "combination". This section of your report describes important combinations of astrological influences that produce specific results. Anapha Yoga Anapha yoga occurs when any planet other than Sun is in the 12th house from the Moon. According to Raman: "Well-formed organs, majestic appearance, good reputation, polite, generous, self-respect, fond of dress and sensual pleasures. In later life, renunciation and austerity." According to Charak: "One born in the Anapha yoga is a king, healthy, affable, renowned, an orator, capable, virtuous, given to varied material comforts, pleasant in looks and happy." Anapha Yoga, with Saturn In your chart when Saturn is in the 12th house from the Moon and the Sun not in the 2nd house from the Moon. According to Charak: "Owner of vast lands, forests and cattle, of long arms, honoring his word, enjoying the wealth of others, associated with a wicked woman, inclined towards forbidden pursuits." Chandra Mangala Yoga Chandra Mangala yoga occurs when Mars is in conjunction with the Moon. According to Raman: "Earnings through unscrupulous means, a seller of women, treating mother harshly and doing mischief to her and other relatives." According to Charak: "One born with this yoga deals with drinks, earthen jars, crude instruments and women. He is disobedient to his mother." Adhi Yoga Adhi yoga occurs when Mercury, Venus or Jupiter is in the 6th, 7th or 8th house from the Moon. According to Raman: "The person will be polite and trustworthy, will have an enjoyable and happy life, surrounded by luxuries and affluence, will inflict defeats on his enemies, will be healthy and will live long." Vishnu Yoga Vishnu yoga occurs when the ruler of the navamsa sign of the ruler of the 9th house, and the ruler of the 10th house are in the 2nd house, and are in conjunction with the ruler of the 9th house. According to Raman: "The person will lead an enjoyable life, acquire fortunes from various countries, earn in lakhs, will be strong, well-versed in discussions, witty in conversations, a worshipper of Vishnu, praised by the rulers and will live up to one hundred years free from disease." Daridra Yoga There are many kinds of Daridra yoga. (a) Rulers of the 1st and 12th houses exchange houses, and are in conjunction with or aspected by the ruler of the 7th house, or (b) Rulers of the 6th and 1st exchange houses, and the Moon is aspected by the ruler of the 2nd or the 7th house, or (c) Ketu and Moon are in the 1st house, or (d) Ruler of the 1st house is in the 8th house, is in conjunction with or aspected by the ruler of the 2nd or 7th house, or (e) Ruler of the Ascendant and a malefic are in the 6th, 8th or 12th, and are in conjunction with or aspected by the ruler of the 2nd or 7th house, or (f) Ruler of the Ascendant is in conjunction with or aspected by the ruler of the 6th, 8th or 12th and the ruler of the Ascendant is aspected by a malefic, or (g) Ruler of the 5th house is in conjunction with the ruler of the 6th, 8th or the 12th house without any beneficial conjunctions or aspects, or (h) Ruler of the 5th house is in the 6th or 10th house, and is aspected by the ruler of 2nd, 6th, 7th, 8th or 12th house, or (I) Ruler of the 9th house is not a natural malefic, is in the 1st house, and is in conjunction with or aspected by the maraka lords (ruler of 2nd and 7th) (j) Ruler of the 10th house is not a natural malefic, is in the 1st house, and is in conjunction with or aspected by the maraka lords (ruler of 2nd and 7th) (k) Ruler of the Ascendant and the ruler of the Ascendant in a navamsa chart are in the 6th, 8th or 12th house, and are aspected by the rulers of the 2nd and 7th house. According to Raman: "Produces dire poverty, financial straits, wretchedness and miseries." Remember that ancient Vedic interpretations are not literally true! Any astrological influence can also be positive. In your chart the ruler of the 5th house is in conjunction with the ruler of the 6th, 8th or the 12th house without any beneficial conjunctions or aspects. Sarala Yoga Sarala yoga occurs when the ruler of the 8th house is in the 6th or 12th house. According to Raman: "One born in Sarala becomes long-lived, fearless, learned, a terror to enemies, celebrated and prosperous." According to Charak: "It confers learning and prosperity." Krisanga Yoga Krisanga yoga occurs when (a) Ruler of the Ascendant is in a dry sign (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Virgo or Sagittarius), or (b) Ruler of the Ascendant is in the sign owned by a dry planet (Sun, Mars or Saturn), or (c) A malefic is in the 1st house, and the ruler of the navamsa of the 1st house is a dry planet (Sun, Mars or Saturn).

Sri Jagannath Vedic Center, USA Drig dasa August 23, 2002 Ukiah, USA © Robert Koch, 2002 – Published in Jyotish Digest 1 Ascetic Yogas THE PATH OF SELF-REALIZATION Robert Koch Robert Koch was initiated as Sri Patraka Das at the lotus feet of H.H. Sri Srimad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in March, 1971. He lived in India for 6 years till 1983, studying Jyotish and has received certificate of commendation for spreading Hindu astrology in the USA, from the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, in 1999. Web site: http://www.robertkoch.com n the first Canto of the great Vedic Purana Srimad Bhagavatam, there is a very interesting and instructional conversation that took place between a bull personifying I Dharma, or religion, and Bhumi, the mother earth in the form of a cow. The bull was standing on one leg, suggesting that that one out of four pillars of religious principles (represented by each leg of Dharma, the bull) was still existing, and that in itself was faltering with the progress of Kali-yuga. The four legs of the Dharma are truthfulness, cleanliness, mercy, and austerity. If most or all of these legs of Dharma are broken, or if 3 out of 4 Dharmic principles exist very rarely, in human society, then we can be confident that Kali-yuga – the age of quarrel and darkness – is well upon us. Given that there are some rare souls existing who speak and live the Supreme Absolute Truth, as is found in various Vedic literatures, the remaining leg of truthfulness still exists. Such persons are characterized by complete self-control, or the ability to detach themselves from the relative world of the senses and the objects of sense pleasure.

  • Mars) and in Navamsha Though It Is Occupying Another Kendra in Rāshi of His Friend Shukra (Venus), He Is Afflicted by Rahu Conjunct There
Budha (Mercury) Budha means the intelligent, clever or a wise man in Sanskrit. It is also the name of one of the nine grahas whose movement affects human beings as well as nations and weather conditions that are the subject matter of the divine science known as Vedic Astrology. Hindu mythology (Puranas) tells that Budha (Mercury) is the illegitimate son of Chandra (Moon) out of Tara who was Guru’s (Jupiter) wife. The Puranas tell us that Chandra was enamored of Tara the wife of Guru and seduced her when she was taking a walk in a garden. Tara is then said to have eloped with Chandra. On being asked by Guru to return his wife, Chandra refused to do so. Thereupon Guru sought help of other Gods who waged war against Chandra but Chandra who was helped by Shukra (Venus) defeated them. Then Guru sought help of Lord Shiva who set out to fight Chandra. Lord Brahma, who treats Chandra as his son, knew that this war would end in annihilation of Chandra and therefore went to Chandra and prevailed upon him to return Tara to Guru, thus avoiding war. Chandra relented and returned Tara who started living with Guru. However Tara was pregnant by that time and gave birth to Budha at Guru’s place. On being confronted, she accepted that Budha was son of Chandra. However Budha was so handsome, sharp, capable of grasping thing fast, and intelligent that Guru decided to accept him as his own son and taught him all the shastras (sciences), which Budha absorbed in a short time.

DREKKANNA - THE D/3 CHART = DRESHKHAMSA Drekkana the D-3 chart = dreshkhamsha = a graphic representation of the placement of each radix graha into one of the 36 Drekkana BPHS Chapter 6: Shloka 7-8. Dreshkamsha: "One third of a Rashi is called Dreshkamsha. These are totally 36, counted from Mesha, repeating thrice at the rate of 12 per round. The 1st, 5th and the 9th Rashi from a Rashi are its three Dreshkhamsha and are, respectively, lorded by 1. Narada, 2. Agasthya 3. Durvasha." The meaning of the word DRESH – KANA DRESH mens seeing or visualizing objects which are apparent or hidden (obscure) in nature. KANA means corner or trine (Trikona). Therefore, Dreshkana represents the varga (division) where the signs, trine to each other, convey apparent as well as hidden personality and nature (swaroopa) of the native. Quotes From: David Frawley. the Astrology of the Seers, p. 186: "In this harmonic the first 1/3 or ten degrees 00° 00'-10° 00' of any sign ruled by itself. The middle 1/3,10° 00'-20° 00', is ruled by the subsequent sign of the same element. The last 1/3, 20° 00'-30° 00', is ruled by the final sign of the same element. For example, the first 1/3 of Sagittarius is in the harmonic third of Sagittarius, the second 1/3 in the harmonic third of Aries, and the last 1/3 in the harmonic third of Leo. Hence, if Saturn is located in a birth chart at 15° 20' Sagittarius, it would be in the harmonic third of Aries.

  • Narcissism, Self-Effacement and Rahu and Ketu a Key to Understanding People by Hank Friedman
Narcissism, Self-Effacement and Rahu and Ketu a key to understanding people by Hank Friedman [Note: For those unfamiliar with Vedic terms, Rahu is the Moon's North Node, and Ketu is the Moon's South Node. Thanks to AstroDatabank for the birth data for the charts in this article.] Ascertaining the positions of the Moon's nodes, Rahu and Ketu, arose from the need to predict eclipses. During a New Moon or Full Moon, if either of the nodes is near the Sun and the Moon, an eclipse occurs. Therefore, the central theme of both nodes is the principle of eclipsing. An eclipse is a momentous event, a major omen, respected from the earliest times as representing a change in the wind, a time of great transition. In the context of Vedic astrology, eclipsing carries the meanings of obscuring, negating, diminishing, paralyzing, and blinding, as well as emphasizing, distorting, amplifying, and exaggerating. Many classical Vedic astrology texts show the meaning of the nodes when in specific houses, e.g. Jataka Parijata (Chapter 8, Shloka 60) states: "When Rahu occupies the Ascendant, the person born will be cruel, without compassion or moral virtue in his nature and suffering from ailments. When Ketu occupies the Ascendant, the person born will be sickly and very avaricious. If the Rahu or Ketu in the Ascendant be aspected by a benefic planet, the person concerned will have princely enjoyments." As the final shloka indicates, the nodes are incredibly mutable chameleons who take on the nature of planets with and aspecting them, as well as the nature of their dispositors (planets that rule the signs that they are in).
