NEWSLETTER #6 Friday 16 February 2018 Dear Parents

THANK YOU TO OUR AMAZING PARENTS • PS children are abuzz with the anticipation of spending Friday night camping out with Dad and all their school friends. Thanks for the amazing enthusiasm that we have from Dads as well. (I think that the moms are probably the most enthusiastic!) We’re hoping that it’s a great evening for all concerned and thank Debbie Payne and our amazing PA for arranging this.

• Your support for our Educational Fund has been record breaking! This means so much to the school and we thank you wholeheartedly for this.

WITH DEEP SADNESS It is with such sadness that we received the news of the passing of one of our Dads and friends, Mark Setzer. Mark leaves his lovely wife, Georgia and two wonderful sons Adam (Gr 10) and Sam (Gr 4.) The funeral will take place at HCC on Thursday at 13:00. • PS pupils may only attend if accompanied by their parents • HS pupils who were very close to Adam are invited to attend. For this to happen parents are asked to mail a consent letter to Belinda at [email protected] by Tues 12 noon.

COMINGING YOUR WAY TODAY …. STUDENT INTERVENTION HISTORY Please be on the lookout for hard copies of an Intervention Form that was sent home today. This assists us in serving the individual needs of your child and involves giving us a summary of the interventions your child may have received (e.g. Therapists, Neurologists, remediation etc) as well as chronic medication. Full details will accompany the forms but we do ask that you complete a separate form per child and return to us even if there is nothing to report. The final date is Tues 20 Feb.

TEXT BOOK LEVIES Attached to this newsletter you will see text and workbook levies. It reflects the amount that will be on the account to be mailed out on Friday 24th February. But… the good news is… if your children were in Gr 0 to Gr 11 last year, your re-enrolment fee will be credited to your account this month as well.

ANNUAL ACCOUNTS Annual accounts have been emailed to all who requested, should you not have received yours by now, please contact Liezel Vermaas at [email protected]. The deadline for payment of these is 28th February 2018. Discount given will be reflected on the accounts after the 28th February – i.e. the account to be received on 23rd March 2018.

INTER-PRIMARY GALA AT HILLCREST Herewith an early alert that the inter-primary gala at Hillcrest is on Tues 6 March. Details will be made available nearer the time but swimmers will most likely leave at 09:30 for an 11:00 start. The event finishes at 15:30.

MINI- Due to an overwhelming attendance at mini-tennis, we have made some minor changes and would like to communicate the following :

• If your child signed up for mini-tennis (Gr0-3), they would have filled in a form indicating which days they will be attending. Please could we ask that they stick to the days they chose. • Mini-tennis will continue as per the co-curricular, however, the Wednesday practice for Gr 0-3s will now take place on the Astro turf. Thursday practice for Gr 0s will also be on the Astro, but Gr 1-3 on the tennis courts as per usual.

We appreciate that our JP children have so much enthusiasm towards sport and we would like to thank you for encouraging them to take part.

MINI- Again, thank you to the parents of children playing mini-cricket for ensuring that your children are at the games on time and in correct uniform. We know that weekends are precious in terms of family time and hence appreciate your commitment to your children and our school.

GR 6 ENTREPRENEURS Our Grade 6s are very eager to start their Entrepreneur’s Programme. This gives them the unique opportunity to run their own business in the safety of our school community. They will be selling various items during school break times to our learners. We do have guidelines in place to ensure a happy experience for all. They will really appreciate your support and generosity during this endeavour. Please use your discretion when your little ask for money; one the one hand we love supporting our budding entrepreneurs but on the other hand, please do so as often as you are comfortable.

CHOIR: OPEN DAY (Senior Primary choir and High School Vocal Ensemble) Detailed letters will be going out on Monday along with choir ties to borrow for the year. Choristers are asked to be at school on Saturday 3 March from 08:15 - 10:30 in choir uniform.

SENIOR PRIMARY VARIETY CONCERT Thank you for all the videos that have come in. Please can any outstanding ones be sent to Mrs Pienaar on 082 6437 412. On Monday the program will be announced after which all sound clips to be used need to be sent to Mrs. Pienaar as soon as possible to organize for the evening. Details for rehearsals at school will be sent out next Friday.

SHUTTLE FORM We have an increasing number of people making use of private transport. To aid in ensuring the safety of your children, we ask you to arrange with these people to collect your child from aftercare, and for you to complete a form which is available from reception. We require supporting documentation of the approved drivers to keep on file at aftercare. We will not charge aftercare fees for those picked up within 30 minutes of arriving there.

COIN SHORTAGE We are struggling to get hold of R1 and R2 coins from the banks. Should your child bring money for cake sale or other activities (and it is not a small denominator) we might request of them to spend up to R5 as we can’t always give change. We trust that this is a temporary problem

I would ask that you would gather with your family this week and pray for the Setzer family and those others grieving in our school.

With kind regards Graeme Holloway EXECUTIVE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents January 2018

We would appreciate your assistance in compiling a summary of the history of interventions your child may have received during 2017. Where necessary please provide copies of reports (unless they have already been handed in for your child’s file), that you may feel the school may benefit from in understanding the intervention more accurately. If your child was/is on any chronic medication, please would you fill in that section and as far as possible update the teacher of any dosage change for them to make accurate observations.

The type of interventions we are looking at range from: Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Pediatric Neurologists, medical interventions, remedial lessons, etc. PLEASE complete the top section even if there is nothing to report. Please complete a separate form per child.
