Indian Plumbing Skills Council Activity Report December, 2016 Success Stories

Ms Najareen Bano

12th Pass, 8 siblings (4 brothers and 4 sisters), she is the youngest amongst the 4 sisters. Father works as a bunkar (weaving of sarees). Trained in Plumbing General Level 3 and after training, She has got a job in a 3 Star Hotel Hindustan International in Varanasi at the salary of Rs.8500/- per month. Now supporting her father financially in household expenses and teaching her 4 younger brothers that go to school.

Mr Sandeep Kumar Patel

Sandeep is 12th Pass, from low income farming family. Got Trained as Plumber General Level

3 and after training, got a job in 5 star Hotel Ramada in Varanasi at a Salary of Rs.12000/- per month. He is now supporting his family with the highest income amongst 5 brothers.

14th to 15th December 2016 Rozgar Mela Ghaziabad Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) jointly organised Rozgar Mela through from early November. Indian Plumbing Skills Council participated in the Rozgar Mela that took place in Ghaziabad on the 14th and 15th December 2016. The event took place at Hi-Tech Institute of Engineering and Technology, Ghaziabad. IPSC was represented by Mr Varun Tandon. Bathline Sensations Pvt Ltd was present as the employer from the Plumbing sector. Over the course of two days, several interviews took place and around 5-6 candidates were given Letter of Intent by the employer. These candidates would be further interviewed for selection.

14th to 23rd December 2016 RPL at CRPF Academy, Khadarpur, From the 14th December to 23rd December 2016, Indian Plumbing Skills Council conducted RPL at CRPF Campus in Khadarpur (Haryana) for their existing Tradesmen-Plumbers under PMKVY-2 as per NSDC guidelines. The RPL of first batch was successfully conducted from 14th to 16th December. This batch consisted of 23 candidates. IPSC was the PIA (Project Implementation Agency), Domain & Soft Skills Trainers were from Sri Guruharkrishan Industrial Training Institute, Tilak Nagar & Assessments were carried out by Virtual Education Trust, . The second batch consisted of 30 candidates and was conducted from 21st to 23rd December.

A total of 56 Plumbing Tradesmen took part in the RPL activity and were felicitated with the Certificates on the 27th December during the felicitation ceremony. This event took place at the old JNU Campus and was attended by Hon’ble Minister Shri and Home Minister Shri as well.

19th to 22nd December 2016 Skill Exhibition at Kanpur for PM Out of 40 sector skill councils, Indian Plumbing Skills Council was chosen along with 12 others to exhibit the skill demonstration at Skill Exhibition at Kanpur from 19th to 22nd December 2016 during Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Rally in Kanpur. For the Skill Demonstration display, IPSC chose a female plumber (Ms Najareen Bano) from Varanasi, who went through short term training in June 2016 and got certified as a Level-3 Plumber. She currently works as a Plumber at a 3 Start Hotel in Varanasi. A Female Plumber was chosen to highlight woman equality and that the women are equally employable in the Plumbing Trade Along with Tools and Equipment on display, IPSC also created a PMKVY structure made from pipes and was displayed proudly at the stall location. We were praised on our out-of- the-box preparation, which strongly advocated Skill India and PMKVY (Ministry’s biggest training initiative). This structure was made by the 2 trainees that were demonstrating the Plumbing Skills themselves.

The importance that Plumbing is getting in the ministry is evident from the fact that Hon’ble Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy (Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship) also tweeted 4 photographs on his handle from the event and IPSC’s was one of them. The event was covered live on various news channels including DD News.

Thereafter, the exhibition was opened to the general public and representatives from IPSC along with a training partner from Varanasi were deployed to register the candidates for trainings. IPSC registered approximately 400 candidates during the 4 day event.

17th December 2016 Importance to Plumbing Sector & Recognition of Mr RK Somany’s Passion by Hon’ble Minister Rudy On 17th December 2016 Hon’ble Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy in his speech during an event at FICCI, expressed the importance that needs to be given to certain sectors in reference to skilling. During his speech he mentioned that “India has professors of botany, professors of mathematics, professors of English, professors of history, but we do not have a professor of Plumbing, because this was never thought of”.

Hon’ble Minister also recognised the passion of our Chairman Mr R K Somany towards the upliftment of the plumbing workforce, quoting “he is a missionary as far as plumbing is concerned. He is the first man in this country who is talking about plumbers”

19th December 2016 Project Person of the Year - Mr Vibhav Tomar On 19th December 2016, Hotelier Awards were held in New Delhi. During the event, Mr Vibhav Tomar from Prestige Group who is also a member of Indian Plumbing Skills Council’s Advisory Committee was awarded the Editorial Choice Project Person of the Year.
