There are two lists. One for firms based in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Another for firms based in the Republic of Ireland. They are both in two parts: Direct Insurers Lloyd’s Syndicates and Insurance Companies Please note that Lloyd's Syndicates can only be approached by Lloyd’s brokers. Insurance Companies also prefer to be approached by a broker except for those in the list of Direct Insurers. A Some policies are issued by intermediaries called managing general agents (MGAs) on behalf of participating insurers. The list below does not include MGAs as arrangements between MGAs and participating insurers can change during the course of the year. If you receive cover via an MGA you will need to confirm the participating insurer or insurers providing capacity to the MGA, as stated on the policy. If this is not clear from the policy documentation refer to your broker. To comply with ICAEW’s requirements policies issued by MGAs must be wholly ‘backed’ by participating insurers. The designation ‘participating insurer’ is used for the purpose of the Professional Indemnity Insurance Regulations. The term is not to be taken as an indication that ICAEW has performed independent checks as to the fitness, or continuing fitness, of an insurer to be included in the list. B Inclusion of an insurer on this list does not mean that it will insure any firm that seeks a quotation as each will have their criteria, some of which are set out in the following list.
