Antisemitism Defined International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance1 Adopted By Canada – June 2019 In the spirit of the Stockholm Declaration that states: “With humanity still scarred by …antisemitism and xenophobia the international community shares a solemn responsibility to fight those evils” the committee on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial called the IHRA Plenary in Budapest 2015 to adopt the following working definition of antisemitism. On 26 May 2016, the Plenary in Bucharest decided to: Adopt the following non-legally binding working definition of antisemitism: “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.” To guide IHRA in its work, the following examples may serve as illustrations: Manifestations might include the targeting of the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collectivity. However, criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic. Antisemitism frequently charges Jews with conspiring to harm humanity, and it is often used to blame Jews for “why things go wrong.” It is expressed in speech, writing, visual forms and action, and employs sinister stereotypes and negative character traits. Contemporary examples of antisemitism in public life, the media, schools, the workplace, and in the religious sphere could, taking into account the overall context, include, but are not limited to: § Calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion. -

The object of these laws is to free men and women from known and certain risks which exist in our industrialised society, and which if not insured against can destroy so much liberty among so many individuals as to make Bills of Rights to them a hollow mockery. - Frank R. Scott' INTRODUCTION While the ambiguity and uncertainty surrounding many of the pro- visions of the CanadianCharter ofRights and Freedoms2 might be subject to criticism, I prefer the view that Canadians are now in the enviable position of deciding not only what their Constitution should say, but what it does say. This is particularly true with respect to section 7 of the Charter, which provides: 7. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice. The scope and meaning of section 7 has generated considerable debate. Some commentators have suggested that section 7 only provides for procedural protection against state deprivations of life, liberty or physical security. Award-winning Children's Author, Illustrator and Educator Jessica: Timothy, thanks so much for doing this interview. It's great to have you here. :) Timothy: My pleasure Jessica. Jessica: What inspired you to get into art and writing? At what age did you start drawing/painting? And what was the first story you ever wrote? Timothy: I wasn't inspired per se by any particular individual in my childhood to be an artist; but I got an awful lot of praise from my Aunt Anne for my artistic sensibility. So, I just stuck with it. I guess? I started drawing at about age three. My first stories were pretty much "samplings" of classic tales that I simply re-illustrated. Jessica: What's your process for creating a book? And where do you get the inspiration for your characters? Timothy: It's pretty much a didactic approach. Story board and then fill the blanks while editing and revising the story line. A great deal of my recent work has been greatly enhanced through my creative soul mate Kristin Walsh. My inspiration for characters always comes from life and the people within it. Jessica: You're the founder and president of T.I.M.M.E. (Tolerance in Multi Media Education), which was founded in 2000. It promotes peace, tolerance and acceptance for common humanity. Within the company you created We Are All The Same Inside - books, hands-on media and line of products to help learners embrace our common humanity while exploring the various aspects of diversity (this is the mission from website). -

Bush and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. For the city that marked last week's fifth anniversary of 9/11 with continuing trauma as well as resolve the UN spectacle is profoundly disturbing. Outside the insulated halls of Turtle Bay there is a war going on. It is a war which threatens the welfare of decent people the world over and a war we cannot afford to lose. We are therefore obliged to ask and answer the question: Is the UN a help or a hindrance to our success on the battlefield of ideas and the very real trenches that lie beyond? To win this war we must be certain that those who call themselves our generals have the skills the fortitude and the integrity to deserve our trust and our support our toil and our blood. And if not we owe it to ourselves and to our children's children to ensure that there are alternatives to this institution's infirmity and that we will not react with indifference despair and defeat. -

You’ve helped make this project fun in all of its rigor and relaxed despite all of the stress that it’s caused. I’d also like to thank Professor Gillian White for leading our cohort toward discipline, and for keeping us all grounded. Also for her spirited conversations and anecdotes, which proved invaluable in the early stages of my thinking. I wouldn’t be here writing this if it weren’t for Professor Supriya Nair, who pushed me to apply for the program and helped me develop the intellectual curiosity that led to this project.
