Important Information

Avid recommends that you read all the information in this document thoroughly before using the Avid Unity MediaManager Recovery image.

This document describes the procedure necessary to use the MediaManager Recovery image to return the MediaManager server to its shipping configuration. c Use this procedure only if your system is in a nonrecoverable condition. This procedure will remove the data from your MediaManager server and return you to the shipping configuration. Using the Product Recovery Image If You Need Help

If you are having trouble using Avid Unity MediaManager Recovery image: 1. Retry the action, carefully following the instructions given for that task. It is especially important to check each step of your workflow. 2. Check the ReadMe file for the latest information that might have become available after the documentation was published. 3. Check the documentation that came with your Avid application or your hardware for maintenance or hardware-related issues. 4. Visit Avid Online Support at www.avid.com/onlineSupport/. Search the Knowledge Base to find answers, to view error messages, to access troubleshooting tips, to download updates, and to read/join online message-board discussions.

2 System Preparation System Preparation

The Recovery image allows you to place the ghost image of the shipping configuration on your system. To boot from the Recovery DVD or CD, make sure the DVD drive and CD drive have priority as bootable drives.

To set the DVD drive and CD drive to be bootable drives: 1. Restart the system. 2. Press F2 during the restart process to enter the Hardware Setup. 3. Press the Right Arrow key to access the Boot option. 4. Select Boot Device Priority, and press Enter. 5. Make sure the priority order is: a. Removable device b. DVD drive c. Hard drive 6. Press F10 to save the setup changes. 7. Click Yes. The system restarts.

Booting from the Recovery DVD or CD

To boot from the Recovery DVD or CD: 1. Do one of the following depending on the server type: t For SR2400 server, insert the Avid Unity MediaManager Recovery DVD into the DVD drive. t For SR2200 server, insert the Avid Unity MediaManager Recovery CD (Disk 1) into the CD drive. 2. When the MediaManager Recovery Setup options appear, select choice 2 to install the full image. 3. Press any key to continue. 4. Type Y to perform the MediaManager recovery. The ghost imaging process begins. 5. (SR2200 server only) When prompted, remove the CD and insert Disk 2, and press Enter.

After the copying process is complete, do one of the following: t For SR2400 server, remove the DVD from the DVD drive and restart the system. t For SR2200 server, remove the CD from the CD drive and restart the system. 7. Click Next when the Windows® Server Setup window appears. 8. Click to accept the license agreement, and then click Next. 9. Select your Regional Settings, and click Next. 10. Type the Name and Organization, and click Next. 11. Type the Product ID number that came with the Windows Server software, and click Next. 12. Click Next in the Licensing Mode window. 13. Type the Computer Name, and click Next. 14. Set the Date and Time, and click Next. 15. Click Typical, and click Next. 16. Set the appropriate Workgroup or Computer Domain information according to your network. The default is “No, this computer is not on a network, or is on a network without a domain.” 17. Click Next. 18. Click Finish. The system restarts. Partitioning and Verifying Free Disk Space

Before installing the SQL Server 2000 software, partition and verify free disk space. Your system setup should be as follows: • For SR2400 and SR2200 servers (2 disks), Disk 0 contains C and D volumes and Disk 1 has no volumes. Partitioning Disk Space on SR2400 and SR2200 Servers

To partition and verify free disk space: 1. Right-click the My Computer icon, and select Manage. 2. Click Disk Management. 3. Right-click Disk 1, and select “Revert to Basic Disk.” When finished verify that Disk 1 is deleted and has free space. 4. Exit Disk Management. 4 Installing SQL Server 2000 Software Installing SQL Server 2000 Software

To install the SQL Server 2000 software: 1. Double-click the SQL 2000 Installer icon on the desktop. 2. Click SQL Server 2000 Components. 3. Click Install Database Server. 4. Click Next in the Welcome window. 5. Accept all the defaults for the SQL Server 2000 Installation questions until you get to the DVD Key Installation window, where you must enter the DVD Key number from the jewel case. c You must enter the 25-digit DVD Key number from the SQL Server 2000 package; this number is on the back of the DVD case.

6. Continue selecting defaults until you access the Setup Type dialog box.

c You must enter non default selection in the Setup Type dialog box’s Destination folder area for Data file.

7. In the Data Files option, click the Browse button and select: t For SR2400 and SR2200 servers - drive D

8. Set the path to one of the following: t For SR2400 and SR2200 servers - D: \SQLdata and click OK. 9. Click Next. 10. In the Service Accounts dialog box, select: - Use the Same account for each service. Auto Start SQL Server Service (default) - In Service Settings area, select “Use the Local System account” 11. Click Next. The Authentication Mode dialog box opens.

12. In the Authentication Mode dialog box, select: -Mixed Mode - Enter a password. This is the SA account password. 13. Click Next. 14. Click Next in the Start Copying Files dialog box.

15. In the Choose Licensing Mode dialog box, select Per Seat for 5 Devices in the Licensing Mode area.

16. Click Continue. The installation process begins. 17. If a Shutting Down tasks window appears, click Next. 18. Click Finish in the Installing the Software dialog box. 19. Click Finish in the Setup Complete dialog box. The system automatically restarts in order to start the SQL Server 2000 software.

Installing the SQL Server 2000 SP3

To install the SQL Server 2000 service pack: 1. Double-click SQLService Pack 3 Installer.exe that is on your desktop. 2. At the Welcome screen, click Next. 3. Click Yes to accept the license agreement. 4. Click Next in the Instance Name window.

5. Select “The SQL Server system administrator login information (SQL Server Authentication).” 6. Enter the password for the sa account, see step 12 on page page 6. 7. Click Next to continue. The SQL SP3 Backwards Compatibility Checklist dialog box opens.

8. Select “Upgrade Search and apply SQL Server 2000 SP3 [required]” and click Continue. 9. Click OK in the Error Reporting screen. 10. Click OK in the Backup screen. 11. In the Start Copying Files window, click Next. 12. If a Shutting Down tasks window opens, click Next. 13. Click Finish. 14. When complete, restart the system. n After you have successfully installed the SQL Server 2000 software, you can remove the SQL Installer icon from the desktop. You should also empty the Recycle Bin.

8 Mirroring Disks Mirroring Disks

n Mirroring disks is a time-consuming process. To mirror disks: 1. Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage. 2. Click Storage > Disk Management. 3. Make sure all disks are Dynamic disks. If the disks are listed as Basic disks, right-click Disk 0 and select Upgrade to Dynamic Disk.

All the disks that are possible upgrade candidates appear in the list. 4. Select the following disks in the list: t For SR2400 and SR2200 - select disk 0 and 1 5. Click OK. 6. Accept all defaults to upgrade the disks. 7. Click Upgrade. The selected disks become Dynamic disks. 8. Reboot the system. Reboot the system a second time when prompted. 9. Log in as Administrator. 10. Right-click the My Computer icon, and select Manage. 11. Click Storage > Disk Management. 12. Verify the following: t For SR2400 and SR2200 servers, that Disk 1 is unallocated. If it is not unallocated, right-click the volume, and selecting Delete Volume. 13. Right-click Disk 0, Volume C and select Add Mirror. The Add Mirror dialog box appears. 14. Select Disk 1, and click Add Mirror. A message box appears indicating that the boot.ini file needs to be edited.

15. Click OK. 16. Right-click Disk 0, Volume D and select Add Mirror. The Add Mirror dialog box appears. 17. Select Disk 1, and click Add Mirror.

The mirroring is complete after each volume indicates 100%.

Do not reboot your system during the mirroring process. Allow the system to complete the Mirroring process. This can take up to 40 minutes. The Mirror process is complete when the Disk Drive Activity LEDs cease from being on continuously. n If your boot Disk 0 fails, physically replace Disk 0 with Disk 1 and boot the system.
