PUPPETS on PARADE

Participants are invited to join the parade and follow Sockly and friends to the MuseumExpo at the conclusion of the General Session .

Sockly, the ’ dynamic, larger-than-life mascot puppet, was created through the center’s first crowd-funding campaign using the Power2Give platform, which is now used by arts and cultural organizations in 24 cities nationwide . Online donations from individuals were matched dollar for dollar by the City of Atlanta’s Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, resulting in a unique public/private funding model . Since most puppets aren’t big enough to be seen by more than a small group, Sockly was created in response to a desire to have a large puppet who could entertain crowds at citywide festivals .

The Alliance is honoring Ford on the occasion of his retirement with a bold new initiative that will help our field shape the future of K-12 education in the US .

We stand on the brink of a new educational era. Will we see a fractured landscape of inequitably distributed education? Or will museums join with other learning resources to create a vibrant learning grid? With the establishment of this fellowship, the American Alliance of Museums will unite museums to create a brighter future.

“As a former teacher and tireless advocate for

museum education, there is no better way to honor Building the Future of Education Ford upon his retirement ”. MUSEUMS AND THE LEARNING ECOSYSTEM —Kaywin Feldman, Chair, AAM Board
