For the first time, the 2020 Awards will be merging of Best Male and Best Female Musician category to become Best Musician, with 10 nominees instead of 5, as per Best Solo Artist.

Music Victoria's Gender Diversity Policy Music Victoria is committed to supporting, promoting and celebrating gender diversity in music. As part of this commitment Music Victoria will ensure participation of at least 40% women and 40% men across its activities, where practicable. Music Victoria acknowledges that gender is a diverse spectrum, for this reason the remaining 20% is not rigidly apportioned. This 20% can be in any proportions – it could be male, female, trans or any other gender (including no gender). This year, Music Victoria is pleased to introduce three new and updated Award categories including the Outstanding Woman in Music Award which recognises the achievements of not only musicians but also women behind the scenes, such as industry professionals, management and crew, as voted by the Music Victoria Board. Produced by industry professionals, the event celebrates the best music across 29 categories.

An awards night for the industry, combined with a line-up of the hottest Victorian talent. Held on the opening night of Music Week on Wednesday 20 November 2020, the event is a major music showcase, which welcomes the Victorian music industry and hundreds of interstate and international delegates.

The event will take place in one of Australia’s most acoustically and architecturally renowned theatres – Melbourne Recital Centre, and will run for approximately two hours. Partners will be invited to a one hour pre-awards VIP event.

The awards ceremony features a strong live music component with nominated artists performing the best songs of year.
