man gave a “Michigan’s Entrepreneur” speech which honed in on those creating start up businesses in the area and their efforts. His speech was followed by Bald - win, who introduced NLEA Board Mem - bers Gary Osterbeck and Randy Frykberg to present the “Maniac of the Year” Award. The award was granted to Bill McDo - nough who has been a business person in the region for over 3 decades. McDonough was praised for his devotion to economic growth and work on Beaver Island. The “Maniac” award recognizes those who have an immense enthusiasm for eco - nomic development. After announcing the “Maniac of the Year” Baldwin brought Jim Granger and Jeff Lawson to the stage to announce the “Project of the Year Award.” The award was presented to Tom Moran and the Moran Iron Works Board of Directors for their creation of the Industrial Arts Insti - tute in Onaway. The awarders explained that Moran’s business was great fit for , as the area suffers from a lack of skilled workers in indus - trial services. According to their numbers, over 30 students have graduated from the institute and have gone on to have success - ful careers in the manufacturing industry. The luncheon came to a rousing close as Baldwin again thanked all in attendance, and commended them for the work they do.
