EMERGENCY MEDICAL COMMUNICATIONS Finding the patient – The STARS Emergency Link Centre® is a 24-hour communications centre facilitating emergency medical response, referral and transport.     BOARD OF DIRECTORS BOARD OF DIRECTORS DAVID SWANSON Chair of the Board David Swanson was elected as Chair of the Board effective August 9, 2012. He is the Director of Business Development and a member of the senior leadership team at GEC Architecture. With more than 30 years of experience, David has made a significant contribution to the design and construction industry in southern Alberta. An active and dynamic community leader, David is associated with many of the City’s organizations including Chair of the Calgary Stampede Parade Committee and former member of the Faculty of Environmental Design Dean’s Advisory at the University of Calgary. David is past-Chair of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and has worked on a volunteer basis with Special Olympics. APPOINTED: CALGARY CHAMBER 2007 MEL F. BELICH, QC Chair, Infrastructure Development Committee Mel Belich is the retired President and Chair of Enbridge International Inc. and Group Vice- President of Enbridge Inc., where he was responsible for all of Enbridge's international operations and aviation activities. He was the Managing Partner of the predecessor to Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP and has extensive regulatory, labour relations and legal experience in the transportation and energy industries. Mel has served on numerous for- profit boards both in North America and internationally, and his community involvement includes service as a Director and Past President of Ducks Unlimited Canada. Mel holds a B.A. (University of Calgary), LL.B (Dalhousie University) and is a graduate of the Harvard Executive Management Program. Mel is an Honourary Director of the Van Horne Institute for Regulatory Affairs.

    'Cowboy' Flett

    Bill ‘Cowboy’ Flett Sports: Athlete Bill ‘Cowboy’ Flett grew up in Okotoks and played his entire minor hockey career here. At age 17, he began playing junior hockey with the Melville Millionaires. In 1967 Bill was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings, which began his 13-year career with the National Hockey League (NHL). He played with the L.A. Kings for three seasons, followed by the Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Atlanta Flames, and Edmonton Oilers. The highlight of his career came in 1974 when he won the Stanley Cup with the Flyers. He played in 689 regular NHL games, scored 202 goals and had 215 assists before retiring in 1980. Bill later served as a scout with the Edmonton Oilers and remained active with old timers hockey games in support of numerous charities. Bill loved hockey, but he also loved rodeo equally and grew up rodeoing in the foothills. He continued this passion in the off-season, earning him the nickname ‘Cowboy’. Bill was known for his trademark black hat, cowboy boots and even wearing spurs on his skates during charity games. Bill was also known for his bushy beard and is considered to be the first player to ever wear a beard in the NHL. Bill passed away in 1999. Brad Banister Sports: Community Builder Brad Banister is synonymous with the game of lacrosse. Canada’s national sport has flourished in Okotoks as a result of Brad’s dedication, experience and pure love of the game, which he has shared with hundreds of local athletes as a coach, manager and mentor.
