2019-20 FLAMES FOUNDATION Annual Report 2019-20 ANNUAL REPORT

MissionThe Foundation strives to improve the lives of southern Albertans through the support of health and wellness, education and grassroots sports programming. Vision Using the power of sport to create healthier communities.

ImpactSince ownership brought the team to Calgary in 1980, the Calgary Flames Foundation has injected over $40 million southern communities including more than $4 million in 2019-20.

We hope you take the time to review this Calgary Flames Foundation Annual Report for the period July 2019 to June 2020. We are proud of the work we are doing on behalf of our supporters. 2019-20 ANNUAL REPORT In Memory of

Ken M. King joined the Calgary Flames as President and CEO in the spring of 2001, and over the course of 20 years, he built a strong and vibrant sports and entertainment organization. His relentless focus on customer service and the fan experience enabled the Flames to survive the challenges they faced early in Ken’s tenure, and created the foundation for a successful sports entity. This entity now includes the NHL Calgary Flames, WHL , the AHL , the NLL and a controlling interest in the CFL . His leadership and passion were also integral to the negotiations for the new Calgary Event .

In the larger community, Ken’s love for the city was evident in the many community boards he volunteered his time to and the many causes he put his energy behind, especially the Calgary Flames Foundation. Ken worked incredibly hard to ensure the organization had a positive impact: from his vision for Flames Health Training Camp events, to a partnership with the Alberta Children’s Hospital that opened southern Alberta’s first youth hospice, to his commitment to amateur sports groups, to his leadership in the REACH! campaign for innovative healthcare equipment.

Ken had an amazing ability to attract and retain high-performing executives —people who are as passionate about Calgary and it’s sports teams as he was. Ken wasn’t just a leader, he was a mentor and friend.

We are grateful for the time we spent with him professionally and personally. Ken taught us that when your family calls, you answer. We can all take our own lessons from Ken to heart, and for that, he has our everlasting respect. His impact on our community will not be forgotten. 2019-20 ANNUAL REPORT Charitable Disbursements

Following the launch of the Calgary Flames Foundation covid-19 Community Support Program, the Calgary Flames Foundation and Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) introduced a resource-focused website providing community connections through the Flames and all CSEC teams.

The United by Community website includes content, activities and online programs for families that can be done at home. There are recreational resources for youth, connections to online fitness programs and online social messaging from CSEC players and alumni.

Adults can download workouts created by Flames Strength and Conditioning Coach Ryan van Asten, which can be completed at home with no equipment.

Additionally, the website provides information and available resources to support individuals and families learning, working and staying at home. 2019-20 ANNUAL REPORT United by Community Player Support

The United by Community campaign included hundreds of hours of Calgary Flames players’ time making phone calls, participating in milestone celebration drives, zoom calls and online video production for youth and fans.

During home learning, Flames surprised a local school’s virtual classroom for an afternoon of learning.

Milan Lucic sent graduation wishes to Calgary’s graduating students.
