MFC Next Generation Academy: Based on the success of AFL Club Academies in the Northern States the AFL has provided seed funding for all Victorian clubs to run talent development Academies for boys and girls aged 11-15 in allocated zones. Melbourne Football Club has been allocated Melbourne’s South East corridor (Casey/Dandenong/Mornington Peninsula) and Alice Springs, NT.

In the near future highly talented Multicultural or Indigenous players who have graduated through the Melbourne Next Generation Academy Zone and meet a certain criteria will be eligible to be drafted to Melbourne’s AFL side via a Next Generation Academy concession system.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE:

The role of the DSS Talent Identification Officer is to identify, report and recommend appropriate AFL talent within the DSS geographical boundaries. A talent identification framework has been established by the DSS that is appropriate with the modern physical, football, character and competitive requirements of the elite level. The aim of the TAC Cup program is to develop the players’ skills, fitness and professionalism to a level so that they have the ability to progress to the standards required for selection in the highest possible Level of football after they graduate the program (AFL, VFL competition or highest possible level of community football).

JOB/TASK PROFILE:

Time required:  Some Saturdays to observe Senior Local Football & Private School Football competitions during the season (April – August)  Most Sundays to observe Junior/Youth Football competitions (April – August)  Occasional mid-week nights for Junior Interleague Carnivals  Small amount of administration time per week to process identification reports and submit (due each Monday 12pm)

Duties:  Attend DSS education session on region landscape, talent identification framework and role expectations  Attend allocated games to observe talent as directed by the DSS  Identify and report on AFL talent within allocated time frames  Attend talent identification department meetings where required  Attend DSS squad trial periods (where required)  Attend AFL Club Next Generation Academy programs as directed

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

Mandatory:  Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team  Minimum Level 1 Junior/Youth/Senior AFL Coaching Accreditation  Level 1 AFL South East Talent Identification Accreditation, or willing to complete in 2017  Knowledge of the DSS Region Talent Pathway Program  Commitment to adhere to all duties & time restrictions as highlighted  High level attention to detail, analytical skills and reporting skills  Highly developed written and verbal communication skills  Current Working with Children or ability to obtain

Desirable:

 Previous experience Coaching in talent programs (including interleague programs)  Familiar with AFL Club Next Generation Academy concept  Level 2 AFL Victoria Coaching Accreditation  Previous experience in a high performance sporting environment
