    nell’ambito di Pubblicati i due volumi sui Salesiani e sulle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice in occasione dei 150 anni dell’unità d’Italia1, è parso conveniente andare oltre l’accostamento materiale dei due studi quantitativi, in qualche modo paralleli, per rendere disponibili F. Motto F. alcuni dati direttamente confrontabili in vista di un percorso di ricostruzione “a due di a cura voci”, maschile e femminile. La comparazione di consistenti dati archivistici inediti, rilevati sul piano sincronico e diacronico, ha portato infatti alla luce sia le profonde e G. L’interessante raffronto del fenomeno salesiano (SDB-FMA), forse I uno dei primi nel suo genere, è opera della giovane studiosa Alessandra Mastrodonato.     Becoming everyday saints with Archbishop Fulton Sheen Growing up in northern Illinois, the name of Archbishop Fulton Sheen was a popular one in the Catholic community. Everyone seemed to have a story about the archbishop or have a cousin or grandparent who was distantly related to him. During my college years, the devotion to the beloved future saint was even more apparent through the many people I met from the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois, where Fulton Sheen grew up and was ordained a priest. I first encountered the archbishop during a high school Steubenville conference, when I bought his book on St. Thérèse, around the time that Pope Benedict XVI declared him venerable. At the time, I only knew about him because of the developments in his cause for canonization, but this book, “Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s St. Thérèse — A Treasured Love Story,” both changed my relationship with my favorite saint while introducing me to another. The book contains 11 sermons that Archbishop Sheen preached in 1973 leading up the 100th anniversary of St. Thérèse’s birth, and, as the introduction of the book explains, “Not only does it reveal the essential Thérèse, it also reveals the essential Fulton Sheen.” With the news of his upcoming beatification and the recently approved miracle regarding the health of a boy from the Peoria diocese, I decided it was time to return to this book and rediscover why it touched me so deeply. It didn’t take long for me to recall how relevant Sheen’s words are for our current world — especially with the disheartening revelations within the Church in the last year and the push to empower the laity.

Twelve is much more versatile, having four even divisors—2, 3, 4, and 6—as opposed to only two for ten. This means that such hatefulness as “0.333. ” for 1/3 and “0.1666. ” for 1/6 are things of the past, replaced by easy “0;4” (four twelfths) and “0;2” (two twelfths). In dozenal, counting goes “one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, elv, dozen; dozen one, dozen two, dozen three, dozen four, dozen five, dozen six, dozen seven, dozen eight, dozen nine, dozen ten, dozen elv, two dozen, two dozen one. ” It’s written as such: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, X, E, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 1X, 1E, 20, 21... Dozenal counting is at once much more efficient and much easier than decimal counting, and takes only a little bit of time to get used to.     St. Francis de Sales Feast Day: January 24th Today we celebrate St. Francis de Sales, who was born on August 21, 1567 in the province of Savoy, France. He is the patron saint of writers, journalists, authors and deafness. He grew up, as the eldest of six brothers, in a wealthy family. His parents, François de Sales de Boisy and Françoise de Sionnaz, belonged to old Savoyard aristocratic families. His father intended for Francis to be a lawyer in order to take his place as a senator. He received his doctorate at law school but decided to join the priesthood and eventually became the bishop of Geneva. He was called, “Gentleman Saint,” because of his gentle spirit, and dedication to preaching through compassionate means. While working in the diocese of Geneva, he volunteered to evangelize Le Chablais, where the Genevans had imposed the Reformed Faith, by preaching constantly with zeal, kindness and holiness. He authored many publications (books, pamphlets, etc.), such as The Art of Loving God, Introduction to the Devout Life and Finding God’s Will for You. Many writings were addressed to lay people regarding the universal call of all Catholics to be saints. He was blessed in his ability to return Calvinists to the faith through his simple and clear explanation of Catholic doctrine. Furthermore, he used sign language to convert the deaf and helped found the Order of the Visitation, with Jane de Chantal. He had a stroke on December 27th during a journey, back to the diocese of Geneva. There he received the last sacraments and made his profession of faith, repeating constantly the words: "God's will be done! Jesus, my God and my all!" He died the next day, on December 28th, 1622; he was 55 years old.

    NOVENA TO BLESSED JOSEPH ALLAMANO A Family man, founding a Missionary Family to make the world One Family in God Day 1 - Allamano and his father, Joseph Allamano Blessed Allamano was born at Castelnuovo D’Asti – today Castelnuovo Don Bosco- from Joseph Allamano and Marianna Cafasso. He was the fourth of five children. There is no much information about the father, but we know that he had a brother who was a priest (Fr. John Allamano) and he died due to carbuncle on 2nd December 1853, when blessed Allamano was not yet three years old. A niece would say that he was a good Christian and he died due to an infection. Both parents were living in the rural area; they were excellent Christians and very charitable. The father was a very faithful and pious companion of his wife. He seemed to have been illiterate. PRAYER: Blessed Joseph Allamano, you knew what it means to have charitable parents and how they influenced your open heart to the needs of the world. You also knew the pain of not having your father from your early age. Intercede for us and especially for those who have lost their fathers and still suffer the pain of it. May they move ahead in their lives with the support of the rest of the family members. Intercede for us to value our fathers for what they are and not for the intellectual knowledge they have or for any position they may occupy in the society. May all fathers take care of their families aware that they are called to be the image of God the Father and of Christ himself.

    Chiaa Badano: Clea Light Intoductio This week the Catholic Church in Scotland celebrates Vocations Awareness Week. 'Vocation' means calling, specifically a calling from God. In the Church and in the school, when we hear the word 'vocation' we probably think of God calling people to serve Him as priests, deacons and religious sisters. We believe, however, that everyone has a 'vocation', that God calls everyone to some form of service in the Church and in the community. In this lesson, we're calling to look at the life of Chiara Badano, a young Italian woman who responded to God's call in a variety of ways throughout her short life. The Backgond Troubled Times: Chiara was born in 1971 in Sassarolo, a small village in the Northwest of Italy. Her father, Ruggero, was a truck driver and her mother, Maria, was a housewife. The couple had waited and prayed eleven years to have Chiara and they believed that she was a gift from God. Things, however, were difficult for the family, the community and the Italian nation at this time. Ruggero was frequently without work, there was little employment in the local area and Italy was going through a time of massive, political and social upheaval called by historians 'anni di piombo' - 'the years of lead'. During this time groups from the far-right and far-left of the political spectrum carried out assassinations, bombings and kidnappings. Despite all these difficulties and challenges, however, the family were happy and were blessed with a deep faith in God An Apple A Day When she was 18, a family friend asked Chiara what was her most valuable childhood memory.

On Sunday, Oct. 15, Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed St. Mother Theodore Guérin a place of special prominence in the church. The Sisters of Providence, the order of Catholic Right to Life sisters that Mother Theodore founded at Saint Mary- of-the-Woods near Terre Haute, reported that 1,200 Across the diocese pilgrims received tickets to attend the canonization.
