We’ll enjoy a comfort stop and lunch on our own along the way, and will soon arrive in Springfield, and the land of Lincoln. Our first stop in Springfield is the Dana-Thomas House. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1902, this home contains the largest collection of site-specific, original Wright art glass and furniture. This incredible home boasts 35 rooms and 12,000 square feet of living space including three main levels and sixteen varying levels in all. After our tour we will check-in to our accommodations to freshen up before departing for a very special Welcome Dinner.

DAY 2 SATURDAY, JUNE 3 SPRINGFIELD, IL (BL) Our morning begins with a hot breakfast at our hotel before heading out for a day immersed in the life of our 16th President. In the turbulent days preceding the Civil War, the immortal words “A house divided against itself cannot stand” were spoken by Abraham Lincoln in Springfield’s historic Old State Capitol, our first stop. Afterwards, we’ll visit the Lincoln Home Historic Site, a national treasure that served as the Lincoln family residence for seventeen years. Following lunch together we will travel on to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum where we’ll be entertained, educated, and mesmerized by this one-of-a-kind, world-class facility that will transport us back to the 19th century. Through immersive exhibits and object galleries, we’ll learn all about President Lincoln’s time in the White House as well as his life before the presidency. Our tour of presidential sites in Springfield concludes with a visit to Lincoln’s Tomb, the final resting place of Abraham Lincoln, his wife Mary Todd, and three of their four sons. The evening is ours to have dinner on our own.

DAY 3 SUNDAY, JUNE 4 STARVED ROCK & SPRINGFIELD, IL (BLD) Following breakfast at the hotel we board our motorcoach bound for Starved Rock State Park’s Visitor Center. Starved Rock State Park is a world away from anything else in Illinois! The outside world will fall away the minute we enter the park and wind through the towering trees, getting an introduction to the park and the region as we experience the beautiful scenery. We’ll take a 45 minute narrated cruise along the aboard the Belle of the Rock, an authentic paddlewheel boat. Starved Rock, Lover’s Leap, Starved Rock Lock and Dam, and the Plum Island Eagle Sanctuary are some of the sites we’ll see as we cruise. While enjoying the scenery and wildlife, we will hear a historical narration about the Native American population that once thrived here, learn about the Illinois River’s function, and listen to tales of Starved Rock legends. Our next stop is the Starved Rock Lodge to see the largest two-sided fireplace in Illinois and enjoy the Lodge’s sensational Sunday brunch. After eating our fill, we’ll tour more local historical attractions including the Hegeler Carus Mansion. We’ll admire century-old imported chandeliers, ornate woodworking, intricate hand-painted ceilings, and more in this Victorian-era mansion that is on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1874, the Mansion has many features that were ahead of their time, such as a two-story gymnasium believed to be the oldest in America and a speaker-tube system for communicating from one room to another. For dinner this evening we will enjoy a Farewell Dinner together.
