Tough= US Navy Flag Well Received Cont SUNDAY, 17 MARCH 2019 He ran very well in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas like he had the >TOUGH= US NAVY FLAG race won but he just didn't get home, he didn't get the trip. He was just naturally so fast, electric from the gate, made his own WELL RECEIVED running and never got caught in the July Cup. GK: The July Cup is historically one of Europe's best 'stallion making' races. It must have been a great addition to his CV. DOL: It's probably the pinnacle sprint in Europe. It comes a month after Ascot, and it's where the best 3-year-olds will meet the best older horses. You can't get a better setting, a fairer track and over the years it's been a great source of stallions. Danehill didn't win it, but he nearly won it. Anabaa, Starspangledbanner, Mozart, and Oasis Dream all won it. So it's always been a very good race and it's a great meeting; with a huge amount of breeders there so a horse always has a good profile after winning it. TDN's Gary King recently sat down with Coolmore=s Director of Sales David O=Loughlin to talk about the 2017 European champion 2-year-old. GK: U S Navy Flag was such a tough 2-year-old. Could you comment on his exploits as a juvenile? DOL: He was extremely tough and consistent. He's got such a tough pedigree--his mother Misty For Me was the same, a very tough mare. He was precocious and very genuine, and to go and win the G1 Middle Park and the G1 Dewhurst in the same season was quite incredible. I think he's the first horse since Diesis (GB) to do that. GK: And then he went on to win the G1 July Cup at three. DOL: He trained on very well. TDN EUROPE • PAGE 2 OF 6 • THETDN.COM SUNDAY • 17 MARCH 2019 It's an international family and these international horses are what people want at the moment. A horse like U S Navy Flag has that profile, he gives breeders a great chance of producing that international, fast, quality, class horse. >Tough= US Navy Flag Well Received cont. from p1 GK: He looks like he's settling in nicely at Coolmore. How has he been received by breeders? DOL: Very well. Speed horses--fast horses--there's always a great demand for them. His three Group 1s were at six and seven furlongs, so that's what so many commercial breeders are looking for. And he has the pedigree and physical to back it up. If you write down what you want in a young stallion, or what's going to be a popular stallion, he has all the qualities one needs. GK: Being a son of War Front out of a talented Galileo mare is clearly a potent combination. Click for a video interview with David O=Loughlin DOL: War Front for so long has been one of the most valuable GK: What's U S Navy Flag like physically? stallions in the world--he's one of the most expensive horses to breed to. His stock sell incredibly well at the sales, so this gives DOL: He's got a lot of quality. Very typical of War Front, and a European breeders a chance to breed to one of his best sons. lovely mover. His mother, Misty For Me, is in there too, she's a typical Galileo mare. WEDNESDAY, 18 OCTOBER, 2017 AIt=s just great to be able to buy a really lovely horse by a NEW OCTOBER RECORD fantastic sire. He=ll almost certainly stay in France to be trained,@ said Anthony Stroud. A son of the unraced Zaneton (Fr) (Mtoto FOR DABIRSIM FILLY {GB}), the colt=s six winning siblings include not only Zagora but also the listed winner and Group 2-placed Asmar (Fr) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and the listed-placed Zanet (Fr) (Enrique {Ire}). The previous October record-holder at i400,000 for a matter of hours was the Galileo filly (lot 86) consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux and bought by Robert Nataf on behalf of MV Magnier. Like the Siyouni colt, the filly was out of a mare whose offspring are more usually found in Arqana=s August Sale. In this case, Sasuela (Ger), a Dashing Blade (GB) half-sister to the German Classic winners Schiaparelli (Ger), Samum (Ger) and Salve Regina (Ger), topped August in 2014 when her Monsun (Ger) filly, later named Fadillah (Fr) was bought by Tony Nerses for i1.2 million, while last year her Frankel (GB) filly was sold to Kenji Ryotokuji for i600,000. King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Ascot Racecourse Background Information for the 65th Running Saturday, July 25, 2015 Winners of the Investec Derby going on to the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Unbeaten Golden Horn, whose victories this year include the Investec Derby and the Coral-Eclipse, will try to become the 14th Derby winner to go on to success in Ascot’s midsummer highlight, the Group One King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), in the same year and the first since Galileo in 2001. Britain's premier all-aged 12-furlong contest, worth a boosted £1.215 million this year, takes place at 3.50pm on Saturday, July 25. Golden Horn extended his perfect record to five races on July 4 in the 10-furlong Group One Coral- Eclipse at Sandown Park, beating older opponents for the first time in great style. The three-year-old Cape Cross colt, owned by breeder Anthony Oppenheimer and trained by John Gosden in Newmarket, captured Britain's premier Classic, the Investec Derby, over 12 furlongs at Epsom Downs impressively on June 6 after being supplemented following a runaway Betfred Dante Stakes success at York in May. If successful at Ascot on July 25, Golden Horn would also become the fourth horse capture the Derby, Eclipse and King George in the same year. ËËË Three horses have completed the Derby/Eclipse/King George treble in the same year - Nashwan (1989), Mill Reef (1971) and Tulyar (1952). ËËË The 2001 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes saw Galileo become the first Derby winner at Epsom Downs to win the Ascot contest since Lammtarra in 1995.
