AIt=s just great to be able to buy a really lovely horse by a NEW OCTOBER RECORD fantastic sire. He=ll almost certainly stay in France to be trained,@ said Anthony Stroud. A son of the unraced Zaneton (Fr) (Mtoto FOR DABIRSIM FILLY {GB}), the colt=s six winning siblings include not only Zagora but also the listed winner and Group 2-placed Asmar (Fr) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and the listed-placed Zanet (Fr) (Enrique {Ire}). The previous October record-holder at i400,000 for a matter of hours was the filly (lot 86) consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux and bought by Robert Nataf on behalf of MV Magnier. Like the Siyouni colt, the filly was out of a mare whose offspring are more usually found in Arqana=s August Sale. In this case, Sasuela (Ger), a Dashing Blade (GB) half-sister to the German Classic winners Schiaparelli (Ger), Samum (Ger) and Salve Regina (Ger), topped August in 2014 when her Monsun (Ger) filly, later named Fadillah (Fr) was bought by Tony Nerses for i1.2 million, while last year her Frankel (GB) filly was sold to Kenji Ryotokuji for i600,000. The Godolphin team made a concerted attempt to secure the first foal of the unraced Amour Eternel (Fr) (Elusive City {Ire}) (lot 147), but Charlie Gordon-Watson=s resolve was stronger and, bidding from the restaurant, the agent had the final say. AShe is an exceptional individual--a strong, powerful March foal with a great attitude and great conformation. She has everything,@ said Gordon-Watson, who divulged that the filly from Dabirsim=s home farm of Haras de Grandcamp would go into training in Britain with Richard Hannon for a new client. Not half an hour earlier, a Siyouni (Fr) half-brother to the GI Breeders= Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Zagora (Fr) (Green Tune) had also brought a record price of i420,000 when selling to Godolphin. The Haras des Capucines-consigned colt (lot 133) was the subject of some intense bidding between the two teams of Godolphin and Hong Kong Jockey Club, with the former throwing in an extra bid past the i400,000 mark set earlier in the day by a daughter of Galileo (Ire).

The next day, because those figures are set, they can get through 50 horses since they have a level to start with courtesy of those top runners. As the days go by, they can rate more and more horses. ATwirl represents a unique opportunity to purchase a stakes-winning, graded-quality mare by the world=s leading sire, LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Galileo, from arguably the most prolific current pedigree in the world,@ Hill >n= Dale President John G. One issue had to do with the lack of an additional G1 Dewhurst S. I don=t think there will be I am a Clinical Pharmacologist (humans), but some of the another mare presented at auction anywhere with this much things that we know in humans can be applied to other species, quality and current relevance in Group 1 racing. Analytical techniques: The regulatory guidelines by groups ATwirl is one of those regally bred mares who is truly a such as the FDA for quantitative (determining the exact amount collector=s item,@ Keeneland Vice President of Racing and Sales of drug in a sample) and analytical techniques (assays) routinely Bob Elliston said. LC-MS-MS can be used The Keeneland November sale runs from Nov. 7 through 18. unless there is no possibility of using this instrument for this type of assay (some drugs do not lend themselves well to biochemical assays and other techniques are utilized). The advantage of this type of instrument includes the use of very small blood samples (usually serum and not whole blood less than 0.5 mL or even smaller samples) with the ability to find even miniscule amounts of drug in the sample. Thus, the contention that there was no more blood sample left (in the Mott case) puzzles me, since modern analytical techniques can use very tiny volume amounts. 10 mL would provide enough serum to assay a drug many times over if a sensitive, modern instrument was employed. If assay techniques being currently used require large sample volumes, that is unnecessary in this day and age. We can now do assays for multiple drugs on a single small serum sample (less

US Navy Flag | racingfotos.com than 0.5 mL). Cont. p6 TDN HEADLINE NEWS • PAGE 6 OF 6 • THETDN.COM WEDNESDAY • OCTOBER 18, 2017

I am unsure what assay procedure the blood testing lab in New SMILING TIGER FILLY TOPS EARLY RETURNS York State uses (based at SUNY Morrisville college), but again, modern instrumentation allows the use of very small amounts of AT BARRETTS serum and plasma to quantify drug amounts. A filly by Smiling Tiger topped early returns at Tuesday=s Since many drugs concentrate in the urine (for example, Lasix/ Barretts Fall Sale of Yearlings and Horses of All Ages when furosemide), qualitative techniques can be used (that is bringing a final bid of $220,000 from Steve Gasparelli=s Slugo determining if the drug is present or not in the urine). Racing. Hip 94, consigned by Stormy Hull and Ginger Samples=s Instrumentation for qualitative analysis can therefore be much Critter Creek Farm, is out of Carrie=s a Jewel (Slewdledo) and is a less sensitive. Urine drug screens can only tell that a drug is half-sister to multiple stakes winner California Diamond (Harbor present, but it cannot tell how much drug a horse was the Gold). The dark bay yearling was bred by Hull. Gasparelli administered or when the horse was given the drug. Also, urine purchased the top lot at last year=s Fall sale, going to $190,000 drug screens cannot tell anything about the amount of drug in for a colt from Smiling Tiger=s first crop. Complete results from the blood (and in the horse) at the time the urine is collected. Tuesday=s auction will be included in Thursday=s TDN. Sampling for research applications in humans use a split sample technique. That means the body fluid sample is split 50-50, with one sample being sent to the analytical laboratory and the other half stored in a secure location in the event confirmatory analysis is needed. The issue of a split sample could be approached using the standard operating procedures that are used in drug testing in humans. Splitting of samples can be applied to any body fluid (urine or blood). The issue, of course, is how to store these split samples since a large amount of -80 degrees C freezer space would be required. There are methods to reduce this storage problem that are used in humans and could be applied to horses that minimize or eliminate sample manipulation. While these comments won't help Mr. Mott in his current case, it seems to me that the racing industry would benefit from reviewing its procedures as noted above, and if found to be Aworn,@ update to modern procedures for sample collection, storage and analysis. Doing this would reduce the type of situation that is currently under review for Mr. Mott.

Poser Farm

Poser Farm beautifully-maintained offers 3 custom-designed barns and 6 lush pastures laid out with the comfort and safety of the horse in mind. This unique property has frontage on two roads, two entrances, and two addresses.

Once through the gated main entrance, a meandering, tree- lined drive takes you to the custom-built residence that exudes a fabulous combination of elegance and calm - from the light- soaked formal living room with marble fireplace and formal dining room to the refuge of the master suite and huge master bath with every amenity and comfort considered. In addition, two guest suites grace the main level – each with its own ensuite full bath. A kitchen with a balance of design, comfort, and functionality adjoins a breakfast area with floor to ceiling windows and staircase to the lower level, nearly doubling the footprint of the house and creating a feeling of charm and functionality. A lovely family room, with brick fireplace and access to the screen porch and in-ground heated pool, invites you to settle in. A well-appointed full bath, oversized laundry room, home office, craft room, multi-functional space with endless possibilities, and two-car garage complete the lower level.

A short walk from the residence is a two-car detached garage and guest house.

Thirty magnificent ash trees, mature landscaping, and an abundance of flowering ornamental trees provide a park-like setting to be enjoyed by all.

Truly an oasis for both man and his equine companions – whatever the season.
