A Week Filled with Honors at the Pepperdine Lectures by Holly Brown

he four golden days at the 50th T Annual Pepperdine University Bible Lectures (April 27-30) are remembered for large and excited crowds, pleasant weather, superb , inspiring lectures, joyful singing, and, as one observer noted, "for the honoring of men and women who have served God, often quietly and out of the spotlight." The University took great pride in honoring 14 individuals with Distinguished Christian Service Awards during the four-day event. At the Opening Night Men's Dinner, Nyal Royse was honored for a career of full-time preaching and years of service to Christian education. Royse has been a devoted preacher of the gospel for more than sixty years. Early in his ministry he preached for California Churches of Christ in Bell Gardens (1941-45), Norwalk (1945-51), and Southwest in Los Angeles (1951-54). Royse received his B.A. and M.A. from Pepperdine University, and he later served as the dean at Columbia Christian College and as a professor of education and director of graduate studies at Harding University. After leaving California for several years, he returned to preach for the Norwalk Church in 1987.
